The Bowls Club has incredible views of the city and all the facilities on offer make for a wonderful night out. First things first, the Thai food is amazing. I like my Thai HOT and the staff almost always get it right. My partner is very picky with ingredients and they always go out of their way to please. The dining area overlooks the bowling greens and children are free to go outside and run around. The area is well lit and you can relax and enjoy yourself, while the kiddies go crazy. The food is well priced and comes in large portions. My partner and I share an appetizer and a mains and come away completely satisfied. After dinner you can proceed into the Bowls Club itself. They offer a full bar, pool table and a nice relaxed atmosphere. The Club has it's busy nights, but generally it is nice and quiet. The decor is super retro. I don't think there have been any renovation work here since the mid-70s. I love the Club for this alone. The staff in both the restaurant and bar are friendly and really look after you. I can't recommend this place enough.

A great local Thai place which provides fresh and authentic Thai with a nice atmosphere. Whether…read moreyou're eating in or taking away the service is likely to leave an impression on you. They are always smiling and keen to share a joke, on one occasion I was even treated to a few bars of a song. I can't entirely remember why, something to do with my name I think. These experiences along would likely keep me coming back to Mons Thai but the food also happens to be great. I should have known given the amount of awards they have lining their walls. I have tried most items on the menu and would be hard pressed to name a favourite. Just ask the staff what they would recommend and go from there. I highly doubt you'll be disappointed.

This was probably my third or fourth time here and it definitely won't be my last!…read more The menu was varied but not overly and mind-painfully extensive and it featured not only your run of the mill Thai dishes but a couple of other authentic Thai treats. Instead of hitting up the classic vege green or red curry I went for a 'jungle' curry which was just fabulous! It didn't have the typical coconut milk base but was more of a stock so it didn't sit as heavy in my stomach. This worked out great because I convinced myself I should get a dessert - where I had to choose the one very non-Thai dish... A chocolate mousse cake! Shit damn that was good and rounded off the averaged priced meal very well!

We decided to stick to the Burmese dishes - so we chose the Mohinga (a kind of fish noodle soup & considered the national dish of Myanmar) & Burmese chicken curry (which was a lunch special). Both were really delicious - lovely fresh ingredients and aromatic flavours. It was good value and the service was great too! We really enjoyed eating a different cuisine from the South East Asian region - we'll be back to try some more Burmese dishes!

So naturally, I skipped the Thai food, and ordered most of the Burmese dishes. We ordered the pickled tea leaf salad (lahpet-thoke, a classic Burmese dish), the burmese chicken curry, and the burmese coconut noodle soup (ohn no kauk swe). The tea leaf salad was great! The fermented tea leaves and raw tomato are wonderfully tart and harmonize well with the savory fried garlic, nuts, and dried shrimp. The textures are equally harmoneous as the cabbage and nuts add a nice crunch to the loft tea leaves. This lahpet-thoke included corn, which I've never had in this dish before, but I think it worked giving the dish a bit of sweetness that really balanced all of the flavors. The curry was also very good, thick, soft potatoes stewed with chicken and spices. The chicken in dark meat, and the curry is very rustic. I've never had Burmese curry before, but the closest thing I have had in other cuisines would be a Malaysian chicken curry. Perhaps the star though was the coconut noodle soup. Fried noodles that get soft in a thick, sweet, yet savory coconut broth. It has a subtle dried shrimp flavor that is just absolutely out of this world. It is such a rich dish that it's perfect for sharing alongside that fresh tea leaf salad. A wonderful addition to Brisbane's dining seen. So happy to see a good Burmese place here.
