The water was cold when they wash your hair and the woman washes your hair was rude and did it very rough and the water spilt everywhere on your neck and face and your clothes ( no massage). I can only imagine that the bad reviews here are because you asked for the wrong stylist. I've been going to Alan for over 20 years. He is by appointment or request only. So if you want a good haircut, make an appointment with him. He is meticulous to details and will do what you ask. He'll offer suggestions if he thinks something else is better, but will always run it by you first. He is always swamped if you try to just walk in, so like I said, make an appointment in advance. I came here yesterday to get my hair cut and I have to say I'm very unhappy with how it turned out... The stylist and I agreed it was just to be a trim with 2 inches off. He mentioned to thin it out a little bit because it seemed too much so I agreed. Instead I got a choppy cut with some places that were over 6 inches cut off. The first thing that really popped into my mind when I first went into Red Hair Salon was that it was really urban, chic, and clean. The receptionist was really helpful and friendly. She led me to Wendy, who washed my hair. Her hands were really skillful and I relaxed in a warm tub of water. I was already stressing out that day, and the massage was really, really helpful. She asked about the temperature, and how it felt. She's really nice and friendly. Then, I was led to the hair cutting area. I came in, and absolutely had no idea about what kind of cut I wanted. I didn't know anything about hair, and usually, I ask for the same thing, layered hair, with/without bangs. But this time, I let my stylist, John, decide for me. I knew that I didn't want it super short, but it had to be a short length for the hot summer ahead of me. So I let him work his magic. ;D It took an hour, for a simple haircut. But he was so attentive, and paid much time to every detail, wanting to get it right. I got side swept bangs with choppy layers. His decision was right for me, and it was a good length for summer, but also didn't get in my eyes. He's talkative, and has extraordinary skill. Show him a magazine picture, and he would tell you the pros and cons for you, and your face shape. And if you agree, he could recreate it so flawlessly. Walked in at 4:45 pm on a Saturday night. (I usually request anyone who isn't busy with multiple clients cause everyone on the team is pretty experienced) Last night, it was Alan who was available. He's a talented, cheerful, peppy guy-- he's got an eclectic portfolio-- for both cut and color. He consulted me regarding my questions on color, cut style and hot oil treatment. (He didn't try to hot sell me anything extra-- he's like, hey everything is up to you!) I really couldn't be happier with my cut and color. He spent 3 hours bleaching, 2 hour color set, wash and hot oil treatment-- then another 1 hour cut and blowout. (Keep in mind that I haven't colored or permed my hair in over 10 years. I adore Eden and have been coming to him for 5+ years despite having moved out of state for 3+. He knows that I am fairly conservative with my hair and never tries too hard to sell me on products and styling. He's also convinced me to try new styles and dyes that have always turned out great. And the dyed hair looked great for more than one year so great value for the money. He gets realky busy (especially on weekends) but I've never been rushed. He definitely spends at least 1hr on cutting, takes about 3 if u color so make sure you have plenty of time. Definitely not the cheapest in flushing , but well worth the money read more

Ridiculous front desk service, they got the money out from their customers but don't bother think about providing quality service. This hair salon is a ripped off as well, they charge me separately with coloring,washing and blow dry. Can you color your hair without washing? I thought the price is included with the basic service, such as washing and blow dry . I paid 80 dollars for my short length hair for the coloring, and extra 20 dollars for the service they should included with the hair coloring. BTW, they also remind you about paying tips, I SAID I Know! (I was already pissed off.) I paid $8 for stylist, and $5 for the assistant. Furthermore, The women who dyed my hair and washed my hair is a pain in the ass. She put so much hair dye over my forehead and she does her work without any patience. During the first phone call, he said that general prices are $160 and $180, and he will make discounts. When I visited the store and washed my hair, he introduced the products. He only cared the money and ran out. He missed the train and came back. I told him that you cut my hair for too short time. I didn't think you finished it. (I have hair cutting experiences for 20+ yrs). Then he took care of my hair again and finished it. This is the professionalism? professional ethic? Finally, I asked him whether I could use the restroom. He said yes. When I used the restroom, he knocked the door, very rude "what are you doing?"' Is this the way the store treats guests? When I got out of the store, Tony was rude and said they will close the door. I am the guest who paid $200+ for the perm. But he treated me so rude, even he can not wait for me to use the restroom. I was the guest who sit in the store for 3 hours. After I came back home, all of my friends gave bad feedback for my hair. I have to find other stores to recut it! This is my first review of a hair Salon so I don'y really know how to play it but.... the design inside is very post modern and chic, mostly white and red hues so it makes me think of the mid-90s when a lot of places were sporting this design. Some places in the city still do... There is a seating area with many magazines with womens hair styles from Japan to Taiwan and Hong Kong and they seemed fairly popular with the clientele. The music is also your general Asian fare with popular songs from China, HK, and Taiwan. The reason however why this place gets five stars for me is their service and their excellent haircut. As an Asian male it is hard for me to find a place to get my hair cut; my choices are generally barber shops who dont know how to do "asian hair" or salons around the city which also really dont know how to do "asian hair". In the past I have resorted to going to cheap Chinatown or Flushing hair cutting places for men but most of the time I come out looking like I got a Chinese army haircut (however the prices are ridiculously cheap) Unlike either of those places, "Red Hair Salon" knows how to do my hair and I come out pretty satisfied with the haircut. While the price is around $30 for a shampoo cut and blow dry, it is well worth it to not look like I have just escaped enlistment. The service is also exceptional, similar to many establishments they will give you a shampoo and condition with a head massage followed by the haircut and they will wash it again to make sure the hair is out. By far this is one of the best salons or any barber that I have gone to. Note that sometimes on the weekends it is quite busy and it is good to come in with an appointment. I'm kind of pissed off by my last hair cut. I've been to Red a number of times. I never go for anything drastic. It's usually 3 inch trim. Maintain the style and side angle. Don't give me too many layers. In general I don't speak much with the hair dresses and that's fine since the males are pretty aloof, my Chinese is ok, and I don't care for the chit chat. I've had Wen and Jackie give me haircuts and they were decent. My recent cut was from Eden. He seemed like a nice guy and there was very minimal discussion. My hair grew really fast since the last cut and felt really drab. He suggested bangs and I gave him my usual instructions about the side angle. During the cut he seemed to know what he was doing. He took some hair off then blow dried, and then kept cutting. Next he started to curl my hair which I thought was weird and figured he was done but then continued cutting for 10 mins. Wisps off here and there. Back to curling and then he asked what I thought. It was really hard to see what he did since there were just random curls. He forgot about the bangs but by then I lost all confidence in him anyway. The length was fine but I wasn't really digging it. I figured I'd just give it a few days. Well after I washed my hair I discovered what a terrible job he did! He did not follow the previous style of my hair. The layers are strange. I have long sections in the back and the layers are just all over. Next time I will stick with Jackie. read more

My haircut was something along the lines of "mediocre" or "eh." Yes, the atmosphere is really cute, and there are a decent amount of magazines to gloss through. Yes, hair dresser was nice, and the music was at a tone where I could hear it, but didn't need to puncture my ears out. But in the end, my haircut was a resounding "eh," and I am going to a salon for a haircut, not an atmosphere. Overall, my wash, cut and dry was abut 38 dollars (about 30 not including tip). The wash was fine (the lady got a lot of water in my ears). I waited about 10 minutes between the wash and being attended too. Interestingly enough, they dried my hair before cutting it (I am very used to a wet cut), so I was a little thrown off with my hair being straightened before it was cut. The point at which she parted my hair was about an inch off (which ended up affecting the way my hairstyle was in the end), but the woman drying my hair truly struggled with where I wanted my hair parted, even after I had pointed to it myself. The hairdresser, Jackie, herself was pleasant, and asked about the cut I wanted. She took a little longer than expected, but at least my hair was even. My bangs were cut a little funny and a bit uneven, but I have long bangs that come to my chin (my longest hairs are about an inch and a half above my waist), so they are easily hidden. Furthermore, both the woman who washed my hair and the woman who cut my hair both took calls AS they were washing/cutting my hair. To me, that shows a serious lack of professionalism. Jackie, the woman who cut my hair, must have been on the phone for at least 10-15 minutes as she was cutting my hair. If I really, really had to, if no other salon was open and my split ends were driving me nuts. I suppose I would go there again. However, there are cheaper salons who give significantly better haircuts and washes, especially in the Flushing area. read more
