The main draw for outsiders is the choice of ales. As you enter, you are confronted with 11 - yes, eleven - handpumps, featuring 6 regular ales and up to five guests. It's like having an ale festival every day. Regulars include Harvey's Best, Abbott and Greene King IPA. On my last visit the guests included Hop Back Summer Lightning, Morland Original and Harvey's Christmas Ale (served in halves, as it's 8.1%). The beer has always been well-kept, and well served, and the staff are generally friendly and efficient, although a few times when it has been busy we've had to wait longer than I felt was reasonable. The interior is very traditional - dark wallpaper, prints, patterned carpets and lots of wood; but there's also a TV showing Sky Sports. If I'm honest, the interior is not the most atmospheric, but it's the beer that you come for. In the summer, there's a small beer garden at the front and a garden space at the rear. A note on catching trains: if you are heading towards London, Hove or Brighton, the platform is on the other side of the tracks from the pub. It can be accessed via a subway from the nearest platform, or by crossing the level crossing and walking straight on. But be warned: the barriers come down three minutes before the trains arrive, so you can't leave it to the last minute and saunter across the tracks. Many a drinker has been seen running like crazy along the platform, under the subway and back up again, only to miss the train. Not recommended after a few pints...

There's a nice beer garden at the front for use in good weather, although it gets busy pretty quickly in summer. A must-visit venue on any visit to Shoreham. PS Adhere to dmj1962's advice about leaving enough time to get the train, if you going toward London or Brighton, unless you want some frantic exercise going via the subway.

Very popular with local people interested in promoting Shoreham. Serves a fantastic range of Thai food, which has proved very popular in Shoreham. Great staff, food and ale. The chips were just fine, nothing special, and the mashed peas were lacking in flavor - I was hoping for a little more mint. We also had the crab cake - which was more like a potato pancake. I'm not sure I tasted any crab in it at all. But there were all kinds of veggies in there, and the breading was good on that as well. It tasted good - just didn't taste like crab. The hummus was delicious - the bread hot, and lots of flavor in the hummus. The staff was super friendly and sat us right away. It does get busy on a Saturday night, so be sure to get there a bit earlier (we arrived around 6:30) to get a seat. The wine selection is pretty good and reasonably priced. I did not drink beer, but they had a few craft beer options that I saw. Overall great place to spend some money on some delicious food with a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Originally built in the 1920s, the interior has been stripped back and redecorated in a clean, modern style, though if I'm honest it's a little too stripped-back for my liking, and lacking in atmosphere when it is quiet. There's a sheltered smoking terrace and small beer garden at the rear. But the number of photographs and other momentos on the bar hint at a loyal and active local group of regulars: and the pub is a real stalwart on the local live music scene, with a stage area and piano, and is usually packed for such events. And the locals and staff are indeed very friendly - but be warned: there are some keen Brighton & Hove Albion FC fans among them, so be careful if you talk about soccer! The beer range is, of course, the main draw, and features Dark Stars' own brews, such as Hophead, Dark Star Porter, the heavy Winter Solstice, Festival Ale and regular guest ales: examples have included the delicious, golden and hoppy Amarillo from the Crouch End Brewery. To be honest, when alfreso dining is as good as this, I think the food tastes 100 times better no matter what you order. The decor is old 70s 'traditional pub' which I love and the bar staff and the locals are all extremely friendly - in fact when I sat there enjoying my pint of Harvey's, one of the locals was happy to chat about the history of Shoreham, its pubs and the current property prices. Food wise, they have a chef's specials board with locally sourced produce that changes from day to day and also offer a '2 for £10' deal once a week. On the main menu there is all the pub classics like fish and chips, steaks and interestingly, fajitas. There's plenty of room for large groups and also an impressive looking garden to sit out in and watch the world go by in the summer.

The crusty base pastry was not cooked through,and the top flaky pastry was a little tough. I did point this out to our waiter, and he said "oh well, can't get it right all the time. They are pre cooked before delivery".....and that was it..!! Chips and peas were alright.. Our waiter stated that most people had welcomed the change in menu......I'm surprised, and frankly don't believe it. My face was glowing red within minutes from the much welcomed heat. They had some nice music playing at an equally nice level (Van Morrison and plenty from the same era) and the bar staff were really nice and friendly. The decor was old fashioned but suited the pub and didn't at all look worn or tacky. There was a good selection of real ales and also a good few house double deals which you don't see much of these days. Sunday lunch is offered at £6.95 and during the rest of the week they sell pizzas from 6pm - 10pm. I could have sat here all day to be honest and just soaked up the atmosphere (and Harveys) as it really had a nice feel about the place and its friendly locals.
