Called in here after dropping some stuff of at my daughters Digs before she started back at University. We intended to have something to eat here but after looking at the menu decided not to bother. Don't get me wrong it was a nice looking traditional pub serving a decent range of beers tidy and clean enough, and free WiFi if required. It just that the pub menu was the same most other Pubs that do food in an unimaginative way no specials and everything with chips. But then I suppose what suits one doesn't suit another. I wouldn't put you off going here as it serves a decent pint and the staff seemed pleasant enough it's just the food menu was the boring usual stuff.

've been coming here for years and never tire of entering the tiny, olden days door portal and managing to bang my nut on the low beams and doorways! Although many 'villages' either sold their souls to the chains or have seen better days, this boozer still retains the village make up. Delicate enhancements to the exterior make this a bit of a looker when you're passing by on Wilmslow Road. In the day it's bright white, ancient exterior (at least a couple of hundred years old) looks too inviting (try not to pass it early week) and in the evening, it's subtly lit (as are the surrounding trees) and is, well, equally inviting. This is a Marston's pub (once, I'm told, Marston's most successful pub nationally) and as such serve pedigree, smooth, bitter and bank's. Lager wise they pump out those North European ladies 'Stella' and 'Staro' amongst the cooking lagers. They serve food up to 7-45pm most days (5-45pm at the weekends) consisting of the usual pub dishes (pies, scampi, roasts) and also have a steak house. Out back is a bowling green (overlooked by the writer Anthony Burgess Foundation building) and beer garden (one out front also). They've recently built a 'smokers area' little more than a bit of creative decking by the looks of it! I personally really like the front section/rooms of the Red Lion but not too keen on the huge back room and conservatoryit feels a tad dated (in decades rather than centuries). Perhaps this will one day be overhauled? They have live music and 'village famous' quiz night on a Monday. A gem of a local boozer, I'm glad it's in Withington and is still going strong (sadly unlike the white lion and golden lion both having been recently laid to rest).

A traditional pub that I first started going to 30 years ago when it was famous for crown bows and some of you may remember Noel Burrows? The pub has kept all its original features whilst being updated in keeping with the times. Food Is served daily from 12 to 9 pm. Where you have the choice of the carvery £6.95 or s selection of traditional pub grub with many old favorites such as bangers and mad fish and chips shepherds pie off course burgers. They have themed nights such as curry, Mexican food evenings. The last Saturday of each month they have a Motown evening there is a bridge club la television screen in must rooms where football and all major sporting events shown the pub had its own. Car park plus bike stand a good night out for all

Why on earth is this Yelp labelled as a public house when no other pubs whatsoever are?

Or rather, fraternal twins. Yes, this is a bar of two halves, two very different halves, and they could well be two separate establishments to the naked eye. Last night when a group of us came for a drink here, we realised that these halves seem to split opinion... the locals prefer one, the students the other. One half is a little colder and more austere, with on-screen sports and ramshackle tables. Oh! I just felt like Phoebe from Friends with her Central Park/Central Perk revelation. This is where the older crowd tends to gather with pints. The other half is warmer and home to some thumping beats and lends itself well to student nights out. In the middle of all of this is a bar, with some cheap house ales and spirits, but overall what you'd find at most bars - big brand drinks. No imported unusual bits and bobs, but hey, if it sells Crabbie's it's fine by me. This place has something of a spooky effect upon its clientele. What starts as a social drink can turn into a spontaneous belly-laugh of a tipsy night out (no wonder it's so popular with students!)... we're not sure how this happens, but the round of Jagermeisters spoke for itself. Hey, medicinal purposes you understand. Down the road from Indigo, Solomon's and Fuel and within staggering distance of my new apartment, I can easily see a few more visits happening.

However, I haven't visited this place for years, and was looking forward to going on a Saturday for a mates birthdays. There were 16 of us on a Saturday afternoon, starting here for food and drink before heading to a few other places in Didsbury. It's actually a really nice place - the interior is lovely and location spot on. It often gets scrutinised for being a bit pretentious with the crowd it attracts, but I have to say I prefer the crowd of didsbury locals - this place is always filled with a nice crowd and attracts no trouble. You can sit outside under the heated area, inside at the main bar, or in the restaurant/dining bit. Each area is always busy, with a bustling atmosphere and traditional decor. I ordered the Butternut Squash Risotto for my dinner which was the wrong choice - I should have gone for the burgers which a lot of my friends went for, and they looked amazing. The burgers came with a nice looking ciabatta bun, and were fully stacked with meat, salad and cheese. My risotto was very standard., The butternut squash was a little bit hard, and I didn't really feel full or satisfied after it. At least I had buckets of sweet potato fries to pick at from everyone elses order afterwards, which were home cooked and delicious! Quite a pricey place to come for lunch and a drink if you expect it to be a typical 'pub/bar' type place. But it is west didsbury after all. I'll be back to give the menu a second chance with a competely different order!

The food here isn't half bad, and on Sundays they do a heartwarming roast. They often show the latest sports on their big screens, but if that's not your thing then there's always pool. What I like most about this pub though, is it seems to be unaffected by Didsbury's prices and occasional pretense. It's cheap, cheerful and down to earth.
