It's been awhile since I stepped foot in a Red Olive. I used to frequent a location near me when I lived in Dearborn Heights. My friends and I would usually get a Saganaki Opa cheese appetizer to start because of the theatrics. I always found their food to be consistently good, and this location did not disappoint. This one occasion I felt like eating healthy, so I got a large chopped salad. I must say this was an impressive salad, which filled me up. If I wasn't eating by myself on this occasion I could have easily shared this with someone else. I also finished my meal here with a baklava cheesecake, which was also quite delicious. My only reason for not giving this a perfect score was the somewhat tacky decor and my waitress who didn't seem very happy. I get we all have off days, but she just seemed apathetic. One thing I don't like about type of restaurants is their ridiculously large menus. But if they execute most of their items well, then the variety of comforting dishes on display will satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. read more

Ordered two perch dinners. Description lightly battered lake perch. Actual item, overcooked rubbery fish with some scales still on it. So sorry that I took the plunge and decided to order from the closer venue. What a waste of my money. Would you call chunks of iceberg lettuce, one slice of a cucumber and one grape tomato, a salad? I went out of my way to yelp this just for the gyro meat. They have the best gyro meat in the state. So juicy and perfectly seasoned. I add it to my Greek salad. Sooo good. No doubt they make it and cut it fresh for each order. There. I said it. Enjoy!!! read more

We came on Mother's Day - last minute out to eat decision. Historically they have had really good soups and very good salads. The remainder of the food was decent, standard diner fare. This time the soup had a burnt taste to it, the salads were still pretty good. The rest of the food was not very good, chicken Caesar wrap, almost no chicken and the tortilla was hard, gyro meat was dried out and almost inedible in another dish. This is one of my favorite breakfast dishes here. So yummy! The food is consistent except for sometimes the pancakes. They can be dry sometimes. But otherwise the service is good. Never have an empty coffee cup for too long. You are always able to have a quiet conversation or meet someone for a quiet first date. read more

This place started out OK. I walked in and 2 young ladies talking to a man told me to sit anywhere. I thought they were taking his order but it appeared they were all just flirting. After about 10 minutes my server( not one of the 2) came out. She apologized for my wait, got me a menu and drink. I ordered the gyro and Greek salad. The food was decent. All of the sudden this guy shows up with a mop, moping the floor and is splashing water everywhere. I asked him to wait until I was done before moping AT my table. He told me" it will be Ok". The server came out to tell me the floor was wet so be careful. I told her I was wet too but I guess she thought I was kidding and dismissed it. I did not eat anymore, payoff my bill along with a tip and left. I would not recommend this place based on customer service. read more

We used to live in Plymouth and always went to the 5 and Beck location. We love this one too as we are now in Livonia. The staff is great and the service always quick. read more

I want to start by saying that the food in this place was excellent. I mean really really good. But that is all it had going for it as the service was absolutely horrendous. We got there and upon being seated we waited for our menu's. We ordered our food and while waiting, we needed refills for our drinks. We waited, and waited, and waited. No return visit from our silver until the food was delivered. The server finally realizes she never gave us silverware. She then asks us if we need anything, while staring at our two empty glasses. So I asked for refills. She could not even remember what we had. About 25 minutes goes by, no drinks. So I flag down another server and ask her to get our waitress. Finally we get some drinks. When we were ready to leave we never did see our server at the table. No offer of dessert, no check to be paid. So finally I go up to the register where I was about 6-7 more minutes and then our server walks up and rings us up. This is by far one of the worst experiences I have had with service anywhere. read more

Nice place at the end of a strip mall. Staff is always friendly and since Covid they seem to turn over regularly but that is the same all over. Place is always clean, some places a bit worn but always clean. Everything my wife and have ordered from here is good and not skimpy portions. It is usually quiet inside which we like. We hate loud places that make it hard to hear each other. Service is prompt, food is good, prices reasonable, what more can you ask for? If your looking for a "hoppin" place where all the elites go find somewhere else. If you are looking for a nice quiet place to have a meal I would recommend that you give them a try. We have never been disappointed. Even thru Covid this was a solid place to eat. Yes, they struggled back then but so did most places. Today they are a good food value. read more

An icy bottle of Blue Moon with a broil salmon and fruit salad for breakfast on a Sunday. Salmon was cooked perfectly. I do wish the fruit was a bit fresher and not macerated strawberries, but it was exactly what I needed. Waitress was very attentive and friendly, though she was busy with the usual church crowd. Our salmon cook time held back our plates from everyone's quick breakfasts but it was fine once we had those beautiful plates in front of us. This place is awesome, the gentleman who is running the counter is always friendly and super sweet. The ladies are awesome and we absolutely LOVE this place, have never had a bad meal. I will say if you get take out they even try to make sure it's not soggy if you tell them you don't want it, however please realize YOU CANNOT stop soggy food when you order out. They are very sweet and this place is a gem to our family! The order: 2 breakfast, 1 spaghetti dinner, a bowl of chilli with no onions, 1 hotdog. Received: 2 breakfasts, I chilli dog. This chili dog was SMOTHERED in mustard, laying almost upside down in the box with mustard everywhere. and guess what happened when I tried to pick it up to eat. The bun was so soggy from the mustard, that it DISINTEGRATED as soon as I attempted to pick it up. So Nevermind the fact that I paid to receive only 25% of my order. Who thought that putting that pole of diarhea on a bun in a box to serve to customers was acceptable. Went in to get a remake (the spaghetti and chili bowl were a lost case now) and low and behold NOBODY is at the counter. We waited no one came we could see two waitresses in the kitchen. We sat ourselves. One finally came out about 10 minutes later, just as we were about to leave. Took our order, no personality. Sorry! Have loved this place but something has changed. The turn over of girls and them not being trained leads to sloppy incorrect service. My family and I were disappointed in the number of errors and times we had to ask for things. I also suspect they may have a new cook. If so, they aren't doing a good job. Worst greek salad And I use to love their greek. The lettuce was old and had a funky taste- tomatoes weren't fresh - lettuce was sparce - usually the salads are huge and fresh- the feta was so crumbled and had no flavor- I swear there were more garbanzo beans than there was salad greens. The coneys are usually loaded with chili and the shredded cheddar added as a topping- not broiled to the point of ruining the coneys. The fries were great. This is my 3rd- 4th straight disappointing experience. Time to try somewhere else. read more

Great lunch spot for me and my friend M or my friend L. Busy, but not too much so, with sufficient waitstaff. Bright, open interior. Decent parking in the back. M usually gets the small Greek salad, which is huge, and has chick peas and some serious feta presence. L loves the Rosa Marina soup (and so will you!! White meat chicken, orzo, and fresh veggies in a tomato broth). I branch out more. There was a time when I was addicted to the Sampler Platter appetizer - veggie grape leaves, tzatziki and hummus with pita bread - and ate it twice a week for a couple of months straight. Now, I'm not usually a fan of grape leaves, but their's are so tangy and fresh (delish in the grape leave wrap with hummus too). Their tzatziki... a moment of silence... amazing. I've also enjoyed their gyro (ask for tzatziki because it doesn't include it). Finally, if you're a breakfast for lunch (or dinner) kinda person, I can highly recommend the Country omelet (bacon, tomato, onion, green pepper and swiss perfection) or the Fruit and Nut pancakes, which contain dried cherries and almonds. They have over 30 salads on their menu, so if you're a salad fan... you'll find a dozen favorites here, I bet. Excellent for take out. Also wraps, sandwiches, burgers and full entrees. Been going to Red Olive in Livonia for about 4 years now. It's a greek restaurant that has a variey of food but my favorites are their gyro and their salads. They have a large variety of salads including cobb salad, California salad, bistro, waldorf, and their specialty the greek. (big bonus they have a good FF greek dressing). I'm a big fan of the Gyro Supreme which comes with feta on it. They have Saganaki and all the greek favorites too. Wife like the chicken gyro with avocado but I forget the name. Only thing I have ever had that I wasn't impressed with was the grape leaves. The other thing they excel in is breakfast. I get the spinach and feta omelet and love it. Everything I have had breakfast wise was good. Inside of restaurant is laid out like a coney island. They have a few TVs with the news usually playing (or MI sports). Place is always clean and staff is nice and quick. Carry out is always quick and correct. They have a menu online and prices are reasonable. read more

I get the GFS is a popular distributor among restaurants nationwide, but have some individuality and creativity. I feel like someone made my omelette in an Easy Bake Oven. Both friends I was with couldn't finish more than half their food. We were starving. Also: owner told us "wow, we're cheap. how do we even make money here with our prices?" as we were checking out. Wraps, burgers, sandwiches, breakfast, dessert, pitas, stir fry, Ruebens, turkey, pasta, vegan dishes, kabobs, coneys, salads.....anything you can think of they basically have it. Lots of side dishes to choose from, speedy staff and well cooked food. It's a Sunday morning after church hot spot but honestly come by anytime, it'll be worth your while! I was skeptical coming here. I dined alone, but upon walking in I was greeted quickly and sat. The sever was quick to give me a drink and make me aware of the lunch specials which is always nice. I settled on the gyro and baby Greek salad. Not even a minute later my salad was in front of me and it was quiet large for being the baby version. Fresh veggies and nice feta cheese on top. Quickly after my large overstuffed gyro was placed in front of me. By god, it wasn't frozen meat! Real meat shaved off the spinning meat kabob. I don't eat here that often, so the few times I go determine my return visit. When visiting ANY Red Olive brand, no matter the day or time I always order the EXACT same meal...Steak and Eggs. Red Olive advertises a NY Strip steak with eggs. Yesterdays visit at this location was not ok. My steak was NOT NY strip, more like they served me a steak that another customer didn't finish. (How do you upload pics for your deliberations?) My server didn't help! She made a smart remark when I asked her if "your menu has changed because my steak don't look right?" her response, "You ordered the breakfast, and that's the breakfast" I wasn't prepared for her rudeness!? It was Valentine 's Day and I just wanted to enjoy the day and start it with a great breakfast from Red Olive. I returned the meal...she grew angry and asked my party "well, do you like the food" as to make a distinction between the two of us. That stressed me out! ...made me feel as if they DID things to my plate specially?!?!?. Cashing out, I explained my experience to the cashier who offered "the owner isn't here today" yeah, he or She was probably out enjoying their holiday! Gave this place a try today and came out very satisfied. I walked in to order a carryout order and decided on Rosa Marina soup, The "best" greek salad, and a side of chicken. I give the food 5 stars. The chicken was seasoned beautifully and was not dry. The salad, although a medium, was HUGE. It's a greek salad that you can expect from anywhere, but it was fresh and the dressing that comes with it is sooooo good. The rosa marina soup...well let's just say that I LOVE SOUP and this soup was SPECTACULAR. This place takes me out of my way from home, however, I think I would come just for the soup. It 's not the easy to find a diner that make the perfect soup (fresh, not too salty, not too oily). Based on the food alone I highly recommend it. Now to the atmosphere, I observed that there are a lot of regulars that go here. The regulars know the waitresses by name, and the waitresses know their patrons by name. Seriously great salads here. I will be back for their salads no doubt. The salads are huge and have a lot of unique choices including options with mangos, avocado, strawberries, salmon, tuna etc. I ordered the "California's Best" salad and it was delicious! The grilled chicken was not dry at all and had great flavor, detected a hint of rosemary seasoning. However the description of the salad said it came with sunflower seeds on top which I was excited about - love the crunch without the calories of croutons .. but I guess they must have been out of them because they were missing on my salad - besides that I have no complaints. It is a bright, clean, place with friendly service. My salad seemed very fresh and I was really impressed with it. I also had a cup of lemon rice soup, it was good but I've had better. The menu is huge though I don't think I'll stray from ordering salads because of how good they all sound! They also carry tons of greek options, wraps, sandwiches, pitas, burgers, stir fry, pasta, and breakfast anytime. This Red Olive used to be the Honey Tree, but I guess it was bought out by the Red Olive owners... I don't know. All I know is that It's really good. They have great breakfasts, and the specials are always tasty. I've had their sandwiches a few times - always up to par. The one thing that really keeps me coming back? Their hashbrowns. I don't know what it is about them, but they're always crisp yet fluffy, with a buttery, light flavor. Fantastic! read more

I wasn't expecting much, knowing this is just a Coney Island type restaurant. Met our FIL for lunch. I ordered the small Tabouli -- it was fresh, but too much dressing. Not too much of an issue, since it all pooled at the bottom, but my last few bites were soggy. My wife had the grilled cheese, and it was well made -- not burnt or soggy, with standard fake cheese singles kids seem to like, haha. Our daughter (3) had pancakes, and they brought them in the shape of Mickey Mouse ears, with sprinkles and whipped cream -- she really liked it. My FIL got the fish and chips, and they looked promising enough that I would order them. Service was friendly, prices were very reasonable, and I wouldn't hesitate to come back here again. I only come here with Co-Workers for breakfast and everyone seems to love it the omelette's specifically the bacon and cheese. I mean, how can you go wrong with bacon and cheese?? you just can't I would recommend that they put a breakfast sandwhich on the menu asap however because i am obsessed with breakfast sandwhiches. Favorite local spot by far for breakfast and lunch. Their omelette special is not only amazing, but if you go before 11 am it's $3.95! For lunch I usually do one of their chicken wraps or whatever is on special. I recently moved out of state and I miss this place tremendously. No one does an omelette quite like they do. We have had consistently bad experiences with Red Olive on Plymouth road. We've ordered carry out twice now-- once for a party and we preordered hours before.. and both times when we went to pick it up, they acted like they never got our order and made it right then, but we had to wait 30+ min. This time, when we finally did get our order it was missing items and some were cold. They are constantly understaffed (the hostess/cashier waiting tables..) very frustrating. read more

Most of my visits to a Red Olive are pleasant. This is my first visit to the Livonia location. This time the hostess was VERY SNARKY and not friendly at the least. Waitress rushed me and seemed intolerable to me taking my time to order. When food arrived I had ordered the Waldorf Chicken Salad, the chicken was dry and rest of ingredients were not fresh. Again out of character from my previous visits to other locations. Bummer since this location is closest to my house, and I generally love my visits, bit not this time. My rank today 2 1/2 stars.
