I was able to see glass sheets being made and take a tour of the factory and Resource Center. The staff was friendly and helpful and I had a whole new appreciation for the amount of work and quality controls that go into each sheet of glass. I really appreciate that the company works hard to retain their employees and create an atmosphere of collaboration. Seeing the thought that goes into creating the glass not to mention the choreography of the adding and mixing (and yes, I DO mean choreography!) to make the combination of colors. I can't wait to visit again and see and do more. Thank you for a wonderful and unforgettable first visit!

I highly recommend stopping in. They have the most amazing selection of both greenware and bisque! Also, sooo many amazing glazes. Basically anything you need! Some pieces I really liked! The prices here for the art pieces seem reasonable and are original in concept. The lady that was working the evening we stepped in was very welcoming and helpful with any questions we had and was a very useful guide. As I said the gallery isn't a huge place so you won't be spending an afternoon or a few hours here but it is a nice little detour while scouting about downtown.

Her artwork takes me into a lil woodland fantasy world of the Pacific Northwest where things are magical and sparkly and you run into Banjo Bear and and all his friends along Cannon Beach or celebrating fall in the woods. I just wish I could jump into their lil troop and join the fun. This cute lil studio is on MLK and although it's her personal art studio, she also has all of her cards, calendars, prints and some large stretched giclees. I personally own a few giclees in my daughter's bedroom, cards to give out during the year and I have bought the last 3 calendars that she has put out I even have a pin! Maybe next she will partner with someone to create stuffed animals of those cute lil creatures to go along with the art in a child's room? I personally have been pushing for children's books because I would love to read about their lil fantasy stories.

The thrilled part came in when I was strolling through the Historic Troutdale District and started practically tripping over his life size wildlife statues. But, it wasn't random. Turns out the gallery relocated just a few blocks from the original location, so you can still see his fine work. The disappointment part is that the current gallery space, which the staff calls transitional, just doesn't showcase his grand work to the same degree. The gallery is probably 1/8th of the former size and can't accommodate some of the larger pieces. Half of the space is the artist's studio where he both creates his statues and offers classes to the public. The gallery contains just a small portion of his work and also houses exhibits by other artists in various mediums (sculpture, photography). Caswell's current subject matter, based on a series of special commissions, is also overtly religious. Not everyone's cup of tea or chalise of wine. While I will still visit the gallery when I'm in Troutdale, it won't be as frequent and no longer merits a special trip. The Columbia Gorge itself is the real wow factor.

Great place to taste some wine and check out some amazing art. Everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming. The art ranges from Rip's spectacular bronze sculptures to Ali's beautiful one-of-a-kind jewelry to various photographs, paintings, bells and glasswork. It's all bigger and better than anything I've seen in a long time. I understand this place has a First Friday artwalk, plus other art/wine/food events, so we'll be back here soon for sure.

Most of the art is local with some other contemporary artists and usually a few by famous artists. The space is smaller then the old space so not as much of it is available to see if you just wander in. Ask and they can make arrangements to see more by an artist...or at least they have offered me. They really have a great art selection with pieces that are surprisingly affordable. Ok not that Kieth Haring unfortunately... It's a great gallery with a staff that has been there a long time. They are nice and know what they are talking about.

I've been going to Designer Yarn for a couple of years now, and my opinion hasn't changed…read more Sherri's store is always my first choice when I need yarn, fiber, or knitting supplies. Last week I was having a problem with a pattern I was working on, so I drove out to Designer Yarn to ask Sherri for help with it. Even though I hadn't bought the yarn there (got it at Oregon Flock and Fiber last year), Sherri helped me figure out what I'd done wrong, which I really appreciated. That kind of customer service will keep me going back there over and over. Sherri does a good job of keeping up with what's new and popular and the variety of yarn that she carries shows that. Now she carries spinning fiber as well! You can find good quality yarns at Designer Yarn no matter what your budget is, and Sherri lets you browse to your heart's content. She doesn't hover, but is always available to answer questions. Anytime I go to Sandy, Designer Yarn is on my list of places to go. Highly recommended!
