I would never ever go back ! My sister and her husband picked this resort to celebrate love and get married . The location was beautiful the owner unfortunately was not along with the manager Tanya and Genie . Unfortunately there was hiccups in communication between managament and my sister and brother in law , where me and my family were not accommodated properly . The rude enforcement of rigid rules will cause me personally never to go back . My father spent over 5,000 dollars for this whole weekend . Not trying to mention dollar amount but just for the backstory ... of customer service and expectation . The manager Tanya was so rude to many of my family members on different occasions. In one instant with me personally , stating "don't get an attitude with me !" Regarding checking in earlier with my two young boys 3 and 5 . Amongst the bad energy she was spreading on such a beautiful weekend , the demeanor of most the staff matched up except Celine . This place SUCKS. I've had more fun with the stomach flu. We were here for a wedding and the staff was incredibly rude, a myriad of unwritten rules that tack on ridiculous fines, an ungodly rate, and the sewage doesn't go underground, it just dumps out the side of the cabin. I stayed there this past weekend while up in the area for a wedding. The cabins are out dated and the grounds are nothing special. The owner has a really bad attitude. She charged my card before I even showed up. When I told her I wanted to pay with cash she told me I couldn't because they had already charged the card. The rooms are dated. There are also little signs everywhere saying "do not this or you will be charged....". It is almost like they set everyone up to break the rules so they can get more money out of them. They also say they allow dogs but they do not allow you to leave them in the cabins if you are not there. I would never stay there again and would discourage anyone from staying there. They have poor customer service, old accommodations and bad attitudes. I guess they think they can act that way because there are not many options up there. read more

I took a family vacation and stayed here for week. From looking at the website I was expecting a cabin in a nice wooded area. Instead we go at TRAILER on the side of the road. There was only 1 nice person that worked the area. There was 1 fire pit that you could use and you need to be done before 10pm or you have someone yelling at you. It is bad enough that when you actually are using the fire pit that the website says it will bring travelers together, the stay is watching you the entire time through there trailer windows. And heaven forbid if you have a question for the office, you are answered through a intercom or the screen door of the trailer next to the office by a screaming person. HORRIBLE place to stay. The food across the street at the cafe is SUPER expensive and not that great. At times it felt like a horror movie just waiting for someone to sneak in to your trailer and kill you. The beds are the most uncomfortable things on the planet. Everything smelled like mildew and mold. And when you finally get to leave you have all of the people that live on the property watching your every move. I will sleep in my car next time if there is nothing else available before I give these people anymore of my money. DO NOT STAY AT THIS PLACE!!!!!!!! read more

RV center is owned by the most loving people. My cat disappeared in the Redwoods for 15 hours. We didn't have money to stay. I was an emotional wreck. They let us stay another night for free hoping she'd come back. She did. I love these people so much for what they did to help me get my daughter back! They are truly happy, loving humans with great energy. I would definitely always stay here in the Redwoods. read more

I spent 3 days at a wonderful scenic spot and it was great. The cottages are well maintained and full of amenities. There is a nice play park for the kids and a lovely little redwood trial with a walk through tree. With it being so closely located to a variety of scenic site and a short drive to the beach, this place is a definite stay. I hear of this place form my parents and after the stay I had with my wife and kids, this has definitely become a recurring vacation spot for multi generations of the Pauley family. It makes me sad to see so many negative comments about the Redcrest, and I am sure that the people who wrote them truly meant what they said, however I returned there this past weekend for a long Valentine's weekend with my Husband and we loved it. I have been there several times and stayed in different cabin, everytime. I love it there the cabins are always clean and cozy. The staff has been wonderful everytime. I have brought my kids up there, I have been by myself, and I have never had a bad thing to say. It just goes to show that people can vary drastically in what they consider good and bad! Which doesn't make one right or one wrong just different. I will always recommend this place to anyone. Experiance is always the best way to truly form your own opinon. Do not stay here!. THis is not a "resort" of any sort. The customer service is VERY bad and the cabins are not rustic, they are just filled with old, dirty things. The cleanliness is questionable. The wine glasses and other things were visibly dirty. They were rude and apparently did not know how to secure a room on our card. Rather than secure it they took out $500 and were extremely rude about it, hanging up and telling us, in essence, "tough." It was hard to get back from them. You would be MUCH better off staying 10 miles up the road, in Scotia, at the historic Scotia Inn, in the quaint little downtown area where the shops are. read more

Terrible... Worst customer service I have ever encountered. Stayed here for a wedding at Rosina Vineyards, the entire wedding party was treated rudely and unprofessionally. It was as if they knew they were the only place in the area near the venue to stay. Ok, this place isn't amazing, and neither are most of the staff...but my husband had a job in that area for a little over a month, so it was a neccesity for him to stay there. We both thought it was very pretty, and the grounds are kept in excellent shape with many flowers and lots of grass all over. We didn't like the rv sites though, they didn't feel private whatsoever. My husband liked staying there and felt very comfortable. He got to know one of the gals that work there in the gift shop and front office, along with her husband, and they are just so sweet. They were all very good to him and helped make his stay away from home a little easier. As for myself, I had a run in with the owner one night after driving 6 exhausting hours to get there to stay the weekend with my husband. I pulled my car up close to the trailer door to unload everything including our 3 hyper dogs and the owner immediately FREAKED. He told me I need to move my car right then and there and put it in a parking spot about 400 ft away from the BACKSIDE of the trailer. When I told him I was just going to quickly unload, he told me that's not where I'm supposed to do it because he was afraid I would block any vehicles that may come and try to go by on the road that our trailer was next to. First off, my car wasn't blocking a single thing. You could've driven 2 trailers side by side on that road without even getting CLOSE to my car. But even IF someone came and I was blocking them, I would've immediately moved my car. This owner is so RUDE and a total control freak. He refused to listen to me and kept talking to me like I was a complete idiot. Luckily for him my husband stepped in to calm him down because I was ready to explode. I was so angry and flustered, that when I went to move my car I accidentally pushed over a large block of wood that was next to my parking spot. I'll admit, I was driving a little too fast (something I tend to do every time I'm angry). It was a very small push that caused absolutely no damage to my car OR the wood, but OMG you should've seen his reaction!! He was so pissed. He basically called me an idiot and said that I was a bad driver because (according to him) how could I miss such a large peice of wood?! In all honesty I was so upset from our argument over blocking the road and I was a total nervous wreck when I tried moving my car cuz he just stood there WATCHING me as I moved it! I would've never hit that stupid piece of wood if he hadn't have been so rude to me in the first place!! Anyway, even though the other staff members were nice, I will never give this resort my money again since the JERK owner is the one getting most of our money. As much as I love to support local businesses, I cannot come up with very much that is nice to say about the Redcrest Resort. I'll start with the positive, and that is that our cabin was clean and the kitchen was stocked with coffee (a necessity in my household). The bed was uncomfortable and the blankets scratchy, but again, clean, so I really wasn't too concerned for a 1 night stay. The issues rise and fall with the staff. Everyone that we interacted with was surly, rude and seemed genuinely upset that they needed to be there in any capacity. NEWS FLASH- you DON'T have to work there if it makes you that unhappy!!! When I now scroll through other reviews about the man riding around on his golf cart, I almost want to laugh for this was our experience as well. Wasn't really sure at first. The musty cabin smell when we first walked in wasn't what we expected for $200/nt. it fit our family of 5 with dog well though and the kids loved the playground so close to our cabin. We also loved the fact that it had a dog park next to our cabin with mint growing all over where he ran. It left a fresh scent in the air. The kitchen had everything but was a little run down and rusty inside cabinets. Bowls and pans had water still in them but weren't all that clean. I think the 2 biggest negatives were the tiny bathroom with shower us adults had to duck in to get our hair washed...and the waterproof mattress covers on the beds that were horribly loud and crackly every time someone moved. The location was great though. It was easy for us to spend a day wandering north and then the next day wandering south. read more

The owner's must have had a bad experience with some renters or something. But everywhere you look (inside and out of the cabins) there are signs about not doing this, or not doing that, you can't do this, this isn't allowed, etc., etc. On the back of our rental receipt there was printed two sections of the Penal Code of California. Even though we saw cute signs here or there saying how welcome we were, we really didn't feel welcome at all. At check in (at the gift shop, not the office, even though we got there at 5:30), the first thing the attendant said was that we had to fill out their information sheet completely - she said "and I mean completely - don't leave anything blank." Yikes. When we left we were supposed to leave the room key at the drop box outside the front door of the office. But there was a chain across the porch so I had to crawl over or under the chain to get to the drop box. Brother, glad I wasn't someone with a disability. The rooms are shabby chic - things don't match and are old. Which didn't really bother us because the room was clean and the bed was quite comfortable. The room had a small refrigerator, microwave and a small 4 cup coffee brewer. There was a small kitchen baggie of ground coffee but it wasn't marked so we didn't know what type of coffee it was. They give you all of two sugars and two powdered creamers. Fortunately, as coffee drinkers we were prepared and had our own sugar, half and half, and ground coffee! But we paid $170.00 for one night and then another $30.00 for the pet fee, so it was expensive for what we got. Another thing you should be aware of is that it is a 20 minute drive north or south to get to any type of restaurant for breakfast or dinner. read more

Just returned from a delightful stay at Redcrest Resort. Our cabin had everything we needed: fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, great beds, TV/DVD, Wifi, etc. The front porch was delightful. Enjoyed watching the quail family in the morning and deer grazing at night. Can't wait to return. read more

The staff was rude. Ruined the experience. Her personality was almost comical how confrontational she was about "resort" policies. They also charged my card without permission for a 2nd room we didn't use, and refused to refund the money. Seriously, we never used the room. When we checked in we asked if a 2nd cabin would be available if we wanted it, and they said sure because it's their off season. There's nobody else here. She almost seemed gleeful as she explained their "no refund" policy. My personal take - this place is on the downhill and they are desperate enough for money to engage in shady business practices. We made a last minute reservation here while we were on out way up to Oregon, stayed in cabin 12 at the end with our dog. Very cute cozy and quiet. We slept great! There is a coffee maker, microwave and fridge but couldn't seem to find any plates or silverware? The staff is very friendly and informative, we will definitely come back again! read more

When I booked, I was told we could get the "winter special" even though it was a holiday weekend in February. When I checked in, I was told that I got the winter special, but when I double-checked the bill, I was charged full price. The manager was unavailable to discuss and did not call me as requested. As far as staying there, we were there an unusually cold weekend (it snowed) and the heat isn't adequate for those temperatures. And the 2 bedroom cottage required walking through one bedroom to get to the other--ok for families, but I wouldn't want to share with another couple. We enjoyed the hot tub to get warm. Location is great, but don't expect warm and inviting treatment. read more

We stayed her during Thanksgiving and while I agree the managment was not warm and fuzzy we had a great time and enjoyed our stay. On their website they said the rates went up to $185.00 for the cabin we stayed in that we got for $80.00, Would never spend that much. Our cabin was clean and the kitchen very well stocked. Do not offer maid service but will wash towels if you leave outside. We did not spend much time in the cabin, too much to enjoy around the area. read more

These cabins are so nice! They are extremely clean and hospitable. The fully stocked kitchen and bathroom were a wonderful surprise, and overall I would say the amenities are nicer than some five-star hotels. We visited during the off season which meant that this place was the only light on in the town of Red Crest (pop. 112) and we were very isolated out in the trees. This is a great place to stay if you want to get away. read more

The cabin was nice with a clean kitchen, and my two Labradors were happy as well with a large dog area right next to to cabin. The only reason for the three stars was the cost for off season, a little pricey. read more

We stayed for a week just before the 4th of July weekend. Our sons family had the large mobile home and we took Cabin 2 (2 big bedrooms). We had plenty of space for the 14 of us and enjoyed the family time. There's BBQ's for cooking burgers and a Fire Pit perfect for making Smores. In the middle of the resort is a park like area. The kids played volley ball, tether ball, bean bag toss, played on the swings and ran around having a great time. Staff were really helpful and came by daily to see if we needed anything. We spent most of our time walking through the woods and admiring all the beauty. We hit the jackpot when finding Redcrest Resort. I didn't see anything else around nearly as nice. Several grocery stores nearby, as well as dining establishments. Fun times! read more

This was a very nice camp ground 7 miles up the road from the state park. You are surrounded by redwood trees with a quaint little town nearby. We camped on a Sunday evening and the camp ground was pretty empty and quiet. Bathrooms were clean. I would recommend this site. We were in a RV, but the cabins look so cute. read more

I can only review the gift shop . We didn't stay at the resort . The gift shop was pretty big and had a lot of stuff . But best of all it had a penny squishing machine !!!!!!!! read more

I stayed at the Vacation home rental for 6 days. I was pleased with the selection of this place. Centrally located with so much to see from Benbow to Klamath. A group of friends joined me and also enjoy the resort. Owner was very nice and pleasant and made a point to come over and chat with us and make all of us feel welcome. This place is a total dump. Enjoy the redwoods and keep driving. The "cabins" are moldy, smelly, and uncomfortable complete with rubber mattress coverings that make sleep loud, sticky, and uncomfortable. The grounds are fine the cabins are not at all kept up. I am not a negative Nellie but since a lot of you want to visit the Redwoods in Northern California on highway 101, I strongly advise that you avoid this camping spot. Yes it has hook-ups and looks OK on their website but it's just not true. I'm shocked at the positive reviews that it gets but our experience was negative from the very start. Very rude staff and owners in the office and beyond. Primarily you need to know that as a camper/trailer user if you need to use their campground bathrooms it would be better if you head for the woods with your toilet paper. Simply disgusting. We had other issues (propane leak) in one of their "quaint" cabins and had to call the fire department at 3 am because no one was available at the "resort" by phone or by pounding at the managements door. Not until the fire dept. arrived did we see anyone and then the owner's comment was " you're just lucky we have a room available to move you to". There were more issues but hopefully this will help someone avoid a night of "why are we here". To be fair this was July 2017 and perhaps it has changed management and is better. The location is great but that's all. read more

My husband and I stayed at Redcrest Resort and loved our adorable cabin, the beautiful surroundings, and the friendly people who run the resort! The staff goes above and beyond and are so helpful. We look forward to our return. The cabins have everything one needs an then some. The gift shop if fantastic and the prices are reasonable. We booked a three night stay and arrived at 8pm. As we walked into the cabin, my whole family was taken aback by the odor, moldy and mildewy. My wife is very sensitive to mold -- makes her sick. We investigated and found the window sills were soft like rubber, indicating water damage and probably revealing that moisture in the cabin was producing mold. The kitchen smelled bad. The decor was tasteless and rules were posted everywhere. I wish I had stepped inside the room before I signed the agreement to stay three nights. My wife called the office with her concerns -- no answer and no returned call. I went to the office and had to hop a chain to knock on the door. The husband answered and sheepishly called for his wife. She arrived at the door in her pajamas with a disgusted frown. She refused us a refund, even though we told her we could not stay for health reasons. She was rude and explained away all of our concerns in a dismissive fashion. She refused to come to the cabin to check it out. We left and are still disputing the charges with our credit card company. In her response to the credit card company she lied through her teeth. Not a trustworthy innkeeper and uncaring about customers. read more

We were looking for a place to spend the night in our camper and the state park was all full. We called the redcrest and for some reason they still had space available for a holiday weekend. We drove straight there to check it out. We pulled into the parking lot slightly past the office and tried to turn around as we really did not like the looks or the vibes of the place even though we were desparate for a place to sleep. While we were turning around, a man came out of the office yelling at us! We backed up to where he was standing and opened the window and he yelled "where the HELL do you think you are going"? We tried to explain that we were trying to turn around and he yelled the same thing to us. We told him that we are leaving and would not stay in a place where where customers are treated in this manner. We left and will never return. read more

In June of 2013 my husband and I booked a cabin (cabin #9) for three nights at the Redcrest Resort to stay in October. The web site stated that we would be charged for one night if we canceled within 30 days of our reservation dates. We were planning to run the Humbolt Marathon after a bike tour through Sonoma wine country. Two weeks before our trip, I called to cancel our reservations because my Dad had a stroke and was not expected to live for many more days. We had to cancel our entire vacation and could not run the marathon. I found out that we were charged for the three nights in advance because of the marathon ("event") that was going on. The web site did not state anything about advance payments for special events. When I spoke with the owner / manager about my situation, she told me that if they were to rent our cabin to someone else then she would think about giving us a refund for the two nights. Well, my Dad passed away two days later and I never received a refund for our advance payment. If we were charged in advance due to an event then I'm sure our cabin was rented to someone else. We stayed there for 2 days. Had a great experience. Cabin 14 is GREAT for families. although less of a cabin, more like a double wide. I'm glad I read the previous yelps as it prepared me for the stay I learned... 1. If you are going to arrive late after hours, call and let them know in advance. They will work with you but I could tell they dont like surprises and I could see them getting testy if you pop in late at night. I called in advance for a late arrival and it worked out well. 2. They have rules. Follow them and no one gets hurt. They are not too onerous and if you were the owners you would want these rules followed too. These types of property are often trashed by rude people. 3. No cell phone for ATT. Possible some for Verizon. They have wireless but it is fair to poor. You can get email but not send it unless you have a web based email service. 4. Remember, this a clean comfortable place to stay but it is not the Ritz. If you come prepared and have a good attitude, you will have a great time. read more

We were pleased with our stay here. No, this isn't a "resort" in that sense, it's more like a shelter in the woods, but it was the perfect way to experience the Redwoods, in our opinion. The cabins are located right off the Avenue of the Giants, so the location was convenient for getting around in our car as well as exploring on foot. We didn't run into any rudeness at all. They were very accomodating for a late arrival (as others mentioned, just call ahead and they'll get you taken care of), and the gift shop staff helped us maximize our limited time there by directing us to the must-see spots in the area (they provided a map, the binder in the room was a bit convoluted). There are activities on site that are great for families and big kids alike (tetherball, horse shoes, ping pong, swings, etc.), but it wasn't like a giant jungle gym or anything. We were a couple on a road-trip and felt equally accomodated and welcomed as a family or RV traveller. Cabin #9 comes with the bare necessities, but we brought snacks and a French Press (with all the fixins) and managed just fine. (But keep in mind, everything closes early and the smaller cabins don't have much more than a microwave and mini fridge, so make sure you get your meals early on and plan for the drive. There is a small cafe across the street, but other than that you are at least 20 minutes away from food places/civilization. That's the beauty of the experience, but you do have to plan accordingly.) All in all, this seems a great way to experience the Redwoods and we'd definitely stay here again on our next tour of the area. read more

What EVER you do don't do it! These people are the absolute rudest people in the entire area. Even the locals say that it's true. The worst experience ever! They could care less if you ever come back again. They must not need return business or maybe they never get it that's why it doesn't matter to them. They were rude the minute we got there. The gal at the gift shop where we checked in was rude and the couple at the after hours office were also terrible. It was way over priced and not worth it at all. It is the only thing in the area though so they got you trapped and they know it. We were there for my sons wedding and most of the groomsmen and all of the family stayed there. We had rented the vacation home and SIX other cabins for a total of 7. You would think that would have given us some pull. Well...it couldn't have been further from the truth. Once again they could care less. My 80 year old mother and my Aunt & Uncle used the small shuttle bus that the wedding provided for safe rides back. When they pulled in the "owner/manager" told the bus they they had to leave immediately and get off the property. They had no right to be there and not to come back. He dropped off my Aunt & Uncle at the RV and was on his way to take my Mom to the "Vacation Home" (single wide mobile home) and they would not allow the driver to wait while my Mom changed her clothes to come back to the venue. Now keep in mind that she just had hip replacement and needs to walk slowly and on solid ground. They resort told the driver that he could not be on the property and needed to wait out on the street! Are you kidding me!!! My brother in law had to go back to the single wide and get her. They said that had we let them know we were going to have the bus bringing people home that it would have been ok, but because we didn't let them know ahead of time we couldn't have it on the property. All the people that were on the shuttle were registered guests. It was a small shuttle and didn't hurt anyone!! The doors in the rooms apparently lock automatically and they don't think that you need to know that. My daughter got locked out of her room and couldn't get in because they don't help you past 9pm. The emergency numbers that are listed in the book are all out of order and the people that LIVE on site don't work past 9pm. So she didn't have anywhere to sleep and had to pay for a room she couldn't get in. She slept in our recliner!!!! I could go on and on but am done with this place!! I don't care what the people say that are positive on here, they are probably not REAL customers. read more

My dad and I have stayed at several places around the Redwood National forest. This is by far the best I have been to. The cabins feel like I'm staying in someone's guest house--New, Vizio TV; full kitchen stocked with pots and pans, cooking utensils, even baking pans, a strainer and crock pot! They are 1 bedroom so the bedroom has more privacy. The lady who was working at the gift shop was really nice, accommodating, and courteous even before we decided to stay there. She even gave us free (by donation) coffee while we shopped. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Nice place to stay when visiting the Avenue of the Giants. The staff was friendly, the place was clean and it is conveniently located. Cabin 4 was cozy and comfortable. Don't expect luxury but it is a great alternative to camping in the heart of the redwoods. read more
