The queen bedroom in our cabin.

Absolutely amazing redwoods vacation. Our cabin was cozy and definitely a trip to make memories. My family and I stayed in the cabin it was very clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. My children and I have pet fur allergies and with resorts that are pet friendly sometimes cause us to have allergic reactions. But our cabin was so clean and we didn't have an allergic reactions, which means they do throughly clean the cabins after guests leaves . The beds were all very nice to sleep in. The whole resort is so beautiful . The gift shop staff was very kind and sweet. Recommended different fun things to do and didn't mind having my children browse around multiple times during our stay. We stayed for 3 nights and all the staff were kind and generous with replenishing any necessities we needed. Being out in the redwoods and having such wonderful accommodations really made this family vacation very relaxing. We all can't wait to go back.

I stopped here at Redcrest Resort & Gift Shop while driving the Avenue of the Giants scenic drive. It is located in the heart of Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Redcrest has cabins and RV hookup spots if you want to stay overnight in the park. There is also a large gift shop out front with bathrooms and a big "Redwoods" sign for photo ops. I stopped in for a some snacks and to purchase a couple souvenirs before moving on to my next destination.

Cute and quaint place to stay that's a short distance from the highway. There's 12 cabins with a couple that have 2 bedrooms. The second bedroom was really small, just large enough for a queen bed and small TV sitting on a side shelf. They do have two fans one in each room if you need to cool off since they don't have AC in the cabins. Stayed at the first part of June and the night still cools off, so you can open the windows if you need to cool off. The one downside staying in cabin 9 or 10 is the shed in the back and the spotlight that automatically turns on. There was a cat that kept turning it on all night and it was right where the second bedroom was. Recommend to turn that off for future guest. This place is small, so if you show up late, call so they can leave the key in the room if you are after 7pm. I ended up showing up right before 7pm so I was able to check in with the lady at the gift shop. My husband had other questions and went back down right after 7 to ask, which she was annoyed with, but she did follow up after giving my husband the information to make sure everything was working at the cabin. The cabin was clean and the couch turns into a futon bed if you need another bed. It's quiet and peaceful sitting outside enjoying the evening. Great little getaway for a nice weekend. There's 2-3 spots for small trailers. We have a 30ft and it would be a very tight squeeze into the units. There's dozens of tent camping spots too with shower and toilets for use. There's even a pet area for your animals to play.

    The Redcrest at Christmas

I was in a Grinchy sort of mood as I drove south down the Avenue of the Giants one late evening last December. Suddenly, out of the darkness, I saw the Redcrest all ablaze in rows of Christmas lights. I'm a sucker for such things, so I pulled over and stayed the night. To stay at the Redcrest is a return back to the time of motel cabins that were popular in the 1950s and 60s before chain hotels and motels dotted the landscape. The cabins are simple affairs with cable TV, a good warm bed and a strong shower. I wasn't a Grinch the next morning. This Redcrest actually put me in the Christmas spirit for the rest of the season.

The water has no place to drain and so it is left to sit on the slimy concrete.

Ugh. Dirty bathrooms, no soap in the women's restroom and the showers are filthy. We stayed at a 30 amp site in our travel trailer. I turned on the water faucet and the water came out white and milky. So gross. I expect more.for $50 a night. I would never stay again. Keep looking. This place is awful.

Stayed here one night in an RV site. Owners were friendly, grounds well-kept, bathrooms newly renovated and very clean. Quiet, nice scenery.

Bathrooms were very clean, well lit, and fully functional. Firewood and other necessities were delivered right to our site upon arrival - so awesome! The patch of old growth we camped in was long-ago cut large trees which had sprouted a dozen or so normal trees out of them. The woods were DARK due to dense canopies and staved off the rain when it fell, which we loved. Most importantly, this CG doesn't fill up six months ahead of arrival date so you can actually book them like a normal campground used to be (I'm glaring at YOU, California State Parks). Cons: Loud road noise due to proximity to 101 and surface roads. In fact, several of the sites abut the neighboring private property, allowing you to see through an old privacy fence directly into their back yard. Luckily our host let us swap spots when we realized this. Several tent campsites lacked picnic tables, which made me concerned if they'd have been full (they definitely weren't this May weekend). The fire rings were sufficient but also just old wheels. Showers in bathroom were in dire need of new fixtures (hard water made them look quite...eek...just glad I wasn't wearing my glasses while I showered). We recognized this area is a difficult one to have high expectations in due to remoteness and gave an extra star for the supremely kind and helpful woman who hosted us. We may not be back up here again, but if we are I hope to run into her.

We like off season travel. And added bonus is this place is right off of 101 making it super convenient for traveling. Most spots have full hook ups. Some just w/e. They have a cute little u shaped area for pop-up campers. Not all sites are super level. Some are pull thru and some back in. Some spots back up to 101 but we became used to the sparse traffic quite quickly. The tent sites are mostly very private. They are nice. Perhaps the neatest places to stay are the cabins. They look so inviting. Some have full kitchens which works out nicely since this very well stocked grocer, Murphys, is just down the street. It was a surprising find in a town of a little over 300 souls. They have a hot bar too! Nice people abound in this area. The little store onsite is also well stocked. There are toasty bathrooms available and the showers, if needed, are coin operated. Fair warning: if you use starlink, there are a ton of trees! There is a "bark park". We visited all the cities/towns in the area including the absolutely adorable Ferndale! We highly recommend the beach in Trinidad. Just stunning with tons of soft sand. We recommend Emerald Forest Cabins & RV.

We arrived on the Friday before the start of Memorial Day Weekend, as there are no reservations, at least at this time of the year. The camp already had half a dozen campsites, filled, along the river, but we found a nice one. The restroom wasn't far and it had sinks and flush toilets. There were a couple of outside, cold-water showers, probably useful for rinsing off sand from the beach. The other restroom had indoor, coin-op, showers, which were "out of order". Our campsite had a picnic table, a fire-ring, and a water-faucet. It was a nice, shady, location. The other campers were mostly families and they all seemed friendly. Our closest neighbors loaned us their air-mattress inflator and invited us over for some BBQ! Petrolia is Humboldt's hidden gem, and you will not regret checking it out, the drive through the hills and along the coast, is phenomenal! A.W.
