I've been going to this event since 2019 because of my childhood friend Sophia and her mother, but this year was the first time I truly felt how unwelcome I was. As a 16-year-old girl of color in a space that is overwhelmingly white, I felt singled out in ways that were disturbing. An older man kept walking past and watching my sister and me, which made me feel unsafe. In prayer group, people stared at us with hostility, and no one would speak to us. Pastor Paul later spoke to my dad in a way that, in my opinion, misrepresented our behavior -- as if we were troublemakers -- even though we hadn't done anything wrong. It felt like we were being targeted simply because we looked different. This wasn't the first time my family has felt dismissed here. A couple of years ago, my sister told me she discovered her name was on a list made by teen boys at the church ranking girls sexually. When she reported it, the adults blamed her clothing instead of protecting her. Hearing "boys will be boys" while her pain was brushed aside showed me that this environment excuses bad behavior from some, while treating others -- especially girls, and especially girls of color -- as outsiders. I left camp feeling shaken, unwelcome, and judged for nothing more than my race and appearance. If you are a person of color or a young woman, I would not recommend this church. I do not believe your safety or your voice will be respected here.

Little did I know That one visit was all it would take to know this is where my family is supposed to be. The worship service is absolutely incredible and the pastor has a really down to earth style of relating to everybody. Everybody was extremely welcoming, and I felt a sense of peace over me that I haven't felt in a long time. I strongly encourage anybody to give it a shot if they're looking for their new home church.

We only started going here a few months ago, but so far I really like it. Darcy and Bob, the pastors, have a knack for grounding the weekly message in real life. To me this makes it infinitely more valuable. The people at FCC have been welcoming without being suffocating. They let us explore the church on our own without sticking a name tag on us and making us be fake-chatty-friendly, or feeling pressured into attending events. Other people may feel differently, but I think it's important to allow people time to get to know a church, know some people there, see the kinds of activities that are going on there, listen to what's being said on Sundays. I think it lets them connect on a more meaningful level when/if they do decide to make it their church home or to become a member. Also, I never feel judged here based on how often I attend, how much I participate, how I look, etc. That's important to me. Those with an intellectual bent and a critical mind will not feel out of place at FCC. My initial impression is that this is a thinking person's church. Another thing I like is that they pass the offering basket at the beginning of the service. This lets people give what they're going to give without working them into a froth of emotions (or, guilt, or whatever) in the service. There's no game playing. Finally, the music - I love the 10 am music. Lots of centuries-old hymns with heavy Euro-beats. Fantastic. And let's give it up for the holiday handchimes, woot!

This is a warm,friendly,inclusive and diverse church community that makes everyone feel welcome. My son got his confirmation here and has always felt like he could pray here as he wished through the good and tough times even as I battled cancer. It's home to us -simple, no frills but a coziness we were looking for when we moved back to Ann Arbor.

The granite exterior of the church is absolutely magnificent. Stunning. And, if I remember correctly, the church construction began in the 1850s and that is amazing. St Thomas Church interior is worth viewing. The St Thomas parishioners have kept it in immaculate condition and extremely clean. I was impressed. For those who are just curious, this is an excellent place to visit. For those who seek a quiet retreat, this is a quiet place to meditate or pray or just be at peace. Just remember to be respectful of the church and the parishioners who may be praying or attending mass.

I thought he was very genuine and I admired how he loves and spent time with his family. This is a nice church, and it wasn't as big as I though it was going to be. Which is great. I like smaller and medium size churches because usually its more personable and you don't get lost in the #'s. First of all we got here late, just at the end of worship (around 1030a) and as soon as we walked in we were greeted, and greeted again before going into the sanctuary. It was good being in the house of God w/ God's ppl. We came not to look for faults or to be a spectator, but a participator and for hearing and receiving a Word from God through the man of God. Bishop Shelby's message during this service was titled "In Between the Lines" which was a very simple but powerful message. It was timely and needed, and I thank god for his obedience to the Spirit of God. Being there, I sensed the presence of God, and the love they had for people. If I lived in the Detroit area I would definitely come back, and maybe even consider this house as a home church. I'm not saying this church is perfect, but it makes a difference when the Pastor has a heart after God.
