I can't believe I moved to Baltimore and didn't even look at another church after visiting this…read moreone! Some friends attend and recommended it, so we visited even before we moved. A church with the mission "Reconciling people to God and reconciling people to one another," that models it with a Black pastor and a White pastor who equally share duties, that has a multiethnic leadership team and a multiethnic worship team, that emphasizes the calls both to personal relationship with God and service/justice in the world--what could be more important and in these days gospel=good good news? My husband joined a small group before I moved, a group that welcomed me in right away (had dinner with them the day after I moved). My daughter and I attended the women's retreat 3 weeks after we moved and the women there love Jesus, were authentic AND fun. And the church meets at Digital Harbor High School across the street from our new home. Is there a church out there in B-more that's better for us? Maybe 1-2% better. But I'm not going to look for it!

His sermons promote inclusivity with a level of biblical sophistication and articulation that can be applied to the modern world we live in. He and the rest of the pastors are kind and demonstrate so much class. However , I noticed a recurring issue that affected my worship experience. Toward the end of service--particularly during the benediction prayer--there is often a noticeable lack of decorum. Many congregants rush to leave early in an attempt to beat parking lot traffic, which is sometimes unavoidable regardless. This creates a distracting and irreverent environment during what should be one of the most sacred moments of the service. On one occasion, someone even bumped into me during prayer without saying excuse me while I still had my eyes closed. That moment made me feel that the reverence due to God and the closing prayer was not being honored. As someone who values old-school worship etiquette and the sanctity of the Word, this culture of rushing out during prayer was deeply disappointing. I believe the church could benefit from encouraging congregants to remain still until the benediction is fully concluded. If someone doesn't leave beforehand, they should respectfully wait until service is truly over. I hope to see the culture evolve so that the beauty and sacredness of worship can be fully preserved. I may return at some point but I'm found another church to go to for now.

I really love the Church of the Redeemed of the Lord. Here, they really embody the love of Christ…read moretowards all. When you financially give to this church you see immediately where your money went e.g. free weekly meals to those who are hungry, school supplies for low income families, repaving streets to remove pot holes, building renovations, and the list goes on and on. I freely give to this ministry because they are active in building the community. Pastor Jerome Stokes is truly an amazing leader. I appreciate his transparency, openness, discipline, unwavering stance in Christ, discernment. Have you ever went to church and it seems that the preacher is talking directly to you about your current situation? This happens to me all the time. I truly believe that Pastor Stokes meditates and asks God to guide him in what to say. It's always an "on-time message." CRL has service every Sunday at 10am and Wednesday at 730pm. They also have Prayer service every Wednesday at 6pm. The prayer service is probably my favorite service because we sit in the sanctuary in individual meditation and prayer for about 45min. It's great quiet for introspection and communing with our God. We then all come together at the alter to pray together. Very powerful experience. So let me tell you about the atmosphere here. While it is a large church, the congregants are like family. Of course like any other family, you have "that" person but they are overshadowed by the love of the rest of the church. They have an impressive band. There are so many instruments and they are so in sync. I am always in awe of their contribution to the Sunday experience. They have multiple choirs and their sound is nothing sheer of quality. There are a lot of other ministries/departments e.g. dance, theater, sign language, children, security, Christian education, marriage, etc This is an exuberant church. They are excited and extroverted in their praise and worship. They are not quiet but free to express their gratitude in any format they choose. There's no judgement. So you may see people dance, jump, lift their hands, or silently cry in sheer thanksgiving and reflection of God's goodness. If this sounds like your style of church, come visit. I would love to hear about your experience.
