My first Yelp review! I have been going to Redi Room for about 5 years, and I can't say enough good things about this place. The owners, Darlene & Kellan, are spectacular hosts, and you feel as if you are in their living room. That being said, they treat their patrons as if they are guests in their home and I don't know about you, but I love that in a neighborhood bar. Don't get me started on the regulars. Like any good local dive, this place is like Cheers. Happy hour clientele are classic. Shit talking, beer guzzling, "Norm's" of San Jose. The late night crew are pretty epic as well. Everyone who goes to this bar lives within a square half-mile or so, for sure. The bar tenders are awesome. They are both super professional, kick-ass cocktail makers, and know exactly when to lay down the law. Not that things get rowdy here on the regular, but a good bar tender knows how to control the environment and not ruin the good time of the other patrons. I was here for the butt-kicking prime rib dinner special several months ago. They went on a break for a little while due to construction going on in the lot, but I heard they started up again :) The meal was great. Definitely filling for me. They also have Salmon and chicken if you're not feelin' for some beef. You can't beat anything like that for the price that they give you. Workers here are super nice and welcoming. I heard it's gotten a little crazy since they started this dinner deal again. People are going into the bar at like 4:30p and waiting to be served at 6pm. Holy moly. Somewhere between 22 and 24 I decided club life was not the life for me, and finding a nice neighborhood dive where friends could meet and actually hear one another, I didn't break my bank account and my butt remained free of the grabby grabs was the thing to do. Now in all fairness I had been to the Redi Room during my club phase, but mostly on weekdays - now it was an any night kind of thing. I think what sets this bar apart from other little dives is the cleanliness, the brightness, and the staff. It's not like you walk in and think, "I can't see a thing, I think I may be claustrophobic, and who are all of these creeps?!" You are greeted warmly from whomever is serving that night, be it Jeff, Rochelle, Evie or AJ, and are promptly poured the drink of your order (stiff as they come). It's also nice to play darts on one of their four boards, or grab dice from behind the bar and sit and play a game. There are a lot of screens there as well, and all the sports tickets so you never miss a game. The nights they serve dinner are not to miss - yummmmmmy! Make sure you get there early though - it gets packed. Also holidays are a blast there, like St. Patty's, Halloween, New Years etc. They always make sure to hand out beads and other various goodies, and even serve free food some of the nights! Plus Sundays are kareoke nights, and perhaps Thursdays as well, but don't quote me on that. Overall if I am in the area (I have since moved from down the street) and looking for a place to go, this is it. I would almost keep this secret to myself but the owners and staff are too good. This place, on a Thursday night is Amazing. They have a prime rib (or salmon) dinner for $14 and it's better than any steak house in the area. The steak, cooked to perfection, juicy and tender barely fit on a 12" plate. Woot this place finally brought back their Tuesday night Prime Rib special but the price has gone up to $13! Everything else is the same. Got there around 6pm and the first batch of customers had already filled up all the tables. Waited a good 20 minutes to get some seats. Tip: all seats are grab your own. There is no list to write down names so its not first come first seat. So best way is to scout out who is finishing up and just stand near them. Service: very friendly and sweet but veryyy slooowwww. This is probably due to the kitchen more than the server. They only had 2 servers running around so that could also be a cause. We waited for about 30 minutes for our food. Food: Prime Rib comes medium rare unless you ask for something different. It was a nice big chunk. It was pretty good but a bit on the chewy side. Couldn't really see it since the lights were dim. Horseradish was super spicy and delicious! We all go the rice pilaf which was pretty good. Another Tip: don't come too late because they do sell out! One big table of about 6 came around 7:30pm and left empty stomached. Overall it was an interesting and somewhat fun experience eating elbow to elbow with regulars and people of all types. A great, little, local bar. A date took me here a few weeks ago for my first time. Maybe it helped that he knew some of the locals and he was buying, but I enjoyed the place and the people. They have one pool table and a couple of electronic dart board games. The only downside was once the place started filling up, there was no way we could get another chance with the pool table. The only thing we didn't do to try to get our server's attention was to stand on our table and strip down naked so she can see. -3 FINALLY, she came over and I said "excuse me, we've been sitting here for 35 mins, can we order?" she said "So you want me to stop everything I'm doing just to take your order?!" "NO SxxT!!!" This alone deserves a -15 stars already but I'm being nice -4 After the orders' been taken, we expect the salad which was included with the meal. OF COURSE WE DIDN'T GET IT. -5 We waited for another 30-35 mins and finally got her attention again, she said "you guys' order are up next!" "ok thanks!" OF COURSE OUR ORDERS ARE NOT UP NEXT. -6 20 mins later, I went up to the bar and spoke with the bar manager, she said "OH, sometimes the orders take longer because the kitchen is very busy" "I understand that, but the tables around us have turned over 1-2 times already" "You just gotta wait" HUH?! ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?! -7 For the 3rd time, we got the server's attention (Thank Jesus Christ!), she said "You guys haven't been waiting for 1hr+, I know this because I personally took the order" And this is the response after she claimed that she checked with the kitchen. 10-15 mins later she came back and said "OOPS, your ticket accidentally fall into the Au Jous. HUHUH?! So what happened to the 1st time when you checked with the kitchen?! -8 FINALLY, the prime rib is here!!! YAY! We can finally taste the steak that we've been hearing and waiting for 1 1/2 hrs for. We all ordered our steak medium rare but came out VERY WELL DONE. Very chewy, no texture, it's just a piece of meat thrown on a plate soaked in Au Jous. My friend ordered his potato plain with nothing on it, but came fully loaded like a Toyota. The server will not replace the potato because WE COULDN'T GET HER ATTENTION!!! Sorry this is going to be a -9 star review. -9 It took us 8 mins to finish the steaks, because we were starving like African kids (Please help feed the hungry children!!!). We didn't even try to wait for our server to come back with the check, instead we went up to the bar and pay. The whole time we were up at the bar, the manager didn't say a single word, printed out the check, gave it to us, we gave her a card, she swiped it, handed it back to me with a look on her face like "THANK GOD THEY'RE LEAVING!" On a hope and a prayer, we headed over to the Redi Room after stumbling across a review from last week (2-23-12) from a fellow Yelper. We got there early as suggested in the review at about 5:00PM. I read on the Redi Room Facebook page to call ahead to confirm that the Tuesday Night special was still proceeding. I did that also and asked what time it would start. I was told 6:00PM and the Tuesday Night Special was still on. We still gathered at the Redi Room at 5:00PM since we didn't know the lay of the land. The Redi Room is a dive bar with lots of neon lights and Nascar style car hoods on the ceiling. The regulars were camped out at the bar and the single row of high top counter running down the center of the bar. The rest of the open space was filled with folding tables and chairs. Anywhere there was a chair, it was set with flatware and paper place mat. Here is what you need to know, sit at the bar or the center hightop counter. They are waited on and served first. Yes, the wait staff starts at the bar and works thier way across the room. The catch is, they get your order then proceed on with meal until the entre is served, then move on. We sat at the folding tables and didn't get waited on until 6:20PM. The Tuesday Special is prime rib, chicken or salmon with salad for $11.00 tax included. If you keep in mind that you are paying $11.00, then meal was fine. If you want to be a foodie, then not so much. The portions are generous as stated in previous reviews. My take on the food. The prime rib was way to rare, it looked almost raw. A woman sitting at our table asked for well, well done and got an end cut, so I guess that meat preferences can be handled. The chicken was the frozen boneless, skinless breast found at most restaurant supply houses. Funny I never saw a piece of salmon. The baked potatoes were over cooked and burnt on the bottom side. The potato was presented with the good side up and burnt side hiding on the bottom. I noticed the salad greens had been "vegetable green" sprayed on. I think the it is a sulfite of some sort, my wife almost broke out in hives because she is alergic to sulfites. So beware. LIke I stated above, if you keep in mind that the meal is $11.00 then this is a place to go on a Tuesday night for cheap eats. read more

Tuesdays get really packed, and there have been a few times that we've shown up close to 6pm and there haven't been any available spots...so we aim for closer to 5pm now and just have a couple drinks beforehand. Wish they had a bigger wine selection - looks like the only wine they offer is in those individual bottles, so we stick with Jameson.
