It is an Asian style dessert joint offering 'sweet soup styled desserts', the most popular being the tofu range with bean toppings. They also do coconut milk based desserts, glutinous balls and some varieties of ice kacung (shaved ice with topping- traditional Malaysian dessert). Most desserts are under $5 and can be easily packaged for take away. This place is definitely worth a try if you're curious about Asian style desserts.

The Sweet Dessert Shop had myself and a bunch of friends in tears the other night, and not just because the desserts were simply delicious (I'll get to that later). What should have read as 'black glutinous rice' was written as 'black glutious rice', which would evoke a completely different taste, and possibly be regarded as bordering somewhat on cannibalism. Translations aside, the Sweet Dessert Shop dishes up a mean sugary feast, that'll have your cavity-stricken teeth asking for more. My personal favourite is shaved ice with red beans ($4.80), which successfully combines the crunch of ice with the chewiness of the red beans. On a cold day, the hot mochi ($3.50) is fabulous. For those not in the know with Asian desserts, mochi hails from Japan and is basically glutinous rice (aka sticky rice) molded together to form a rice cake paste. It is chewy, sweet and oh-so-addictive. Fortunately this place is cheap, so when you have to revisit for the third time in a week, it won't blow a hole in your budget!

So learning that Norths do 2 for the price of one on Thursday nights was awesome. The plates were loaded up, full of flavour and prepared fresh not a bain-marie in sight. The kitchen also helpfully has a sign letting you know how long you may have to wait as they get super busy! But dont be deterred if you see a 45min wait sign as it didnt actually take that long. They have a kids room that you can use that is monitored by qualified staff. We sat quite close to the kids room and couldnt hear a peep, just lots of kids having fun and if you do have little ones you can keep an eye on them through the floor to ceiling glass (non kid folk trust me this is important for peace of mind). Jugs of soft drink range from $7 - $10 depending on what you get. Overall a well priced night out with good food and a pleasant atmosphere

Social membership is just $1 for lifetime membership and saves $2 or $3 off meal prices. The menu is great with very reasonable prices, and you can check it out online beforehand. I was impressed with the service too, staff at RSLs are usually good but these guys were excellent. Someone checks on each table shortly after the mains arrive to check that everything is ok and there are smiles all around. We can vouch for the mixed grill (huge), the pizza (delicious), and the schnitty (very nice). The risotto was creamy and tasted great, but I was expecting roasted capsicum, and it seemed to be fresh instead, so I was a bit disappointed and couldn't give the whole 5 stars (yes, I'm picky). We were taught by a charming older gent who floated about giving us excellent, non-patronising tips and then popped in again every so often to see how we were going. They were very friendly. I was here for a birthday party, there was plenty of space for tables and chairs and what's more you can BYO and drink on the lawn while playing your new favourite sport. (Also there's a bottle-o just over the road - just FYI) It's set on the edge of the pretty Mowbray Park but you wouldn't know you were on a major road. The trees are built up around it just beautifully. It feels nicely private.
