    Pot Roast Melt Tots
    Josh C.

Mad delicious food at a bad ass bar is clutch. Holiday Thursday evening for dinner, ordered takeout Pot Roast Melt with tots and Wings - Garlic Ginger Teriyaki were slappin. Pot Roast Melt was a delicious, tender, flavorful, meaty sandwich on slightly roasted bread. Surprised pot roast was on menu, but I'll take it. Served with well balanced creamy and spicy horseradish sauce and deep flavor au jus. Garlic Ginger Teriyaki Wings were sweet and tangy with small pieces of garlic that pop on taste buds. Very tender and not crispy from fry. Super bomb

We came here for karaoke night on a Friday. It was crowded but we were able to get our drinks fairly quick as there are two bar areas. We came in as a group and we were able to find spot for all of us to hang out. I loved the vibes as the guests were singing along. I got tater tots and fried pickles and they were tasty and reasonably priced. I would come back for karaoke night again.

    Bloody Mary.

No one makes a better Bloody Mary better than Jermaine. Not only is the drink amazing but the customer service is next level. Genuinely making you feel welcome. Great drinks great service. Won't be disappointed on a visit here.

How do you go from 5 stars to a 1 star review? Was going to give this a 5 star review until SECURITY completely pissed me off. See PHOTOS. We had been here before. Loved the place. Top tier bar food and a great place to smoke a cigar and watch the game. Service was top tier. First night back in San Diego, just wanted to relax. Four day trip. Wings, prime rib sandwiches, all good, especially for bar food. Watched the game, strong drinks, left very happy. Last day in San Diego, was hoping for a repeat. Again, did not disappoint. Strong drinks, beef Nachos. The game was a little disappointing, but could hardly blame the establishment. Went to Coin-Op down the street, decided to get dinner. Unfortunately, it was too late. So let's go back to Redwing for those great sandwiches and another drink! Now we go to one star. Try to go in, prepared to show our ID's, and the rudest security dude I've ever seen said "leave your bag behind the door". To be clear, this was the outside door against an outside wall. I had over $100 in cigars, plus cigar tools, not to mention the bag itself. Not going to just leave it there without a claim check. Started to walk away and then turned around, held the bag towards him, and said "you're free to check the contents". He didn't blink an eye, wasn't at all apologetic, and just repeated "leave the bag behind the door", with the coldest stare I've seen in years. Bullshit. Walked away. I understand the need for security. We had no such encounter on Friday night. The guard was nice, respectful. The guard Monday night will destroy your business. I'm not sure I'll ever be back. Hoping the manager sees this because we loved this place. See photos of my credit card transactions.

Latest Updated Review (in response to owner/manager): I want to clarify what happened at the back bar. There was a puddle of dirty water on the floor, so I shifted one table slightly to avoid stepping in it. The bartender came up angrily, told me I wasn't allowed to move it, and was extremely rude even after I explained why. The doorman at the entrance was also unfriendly. For the record, I did not "rearrange" furniture or block exits -- I only moved a table a few inches because of the puddle your staff never addressed. I chose the tables in the back for privacy, and no, there were not "plenty of other tables" available at the time. Instead of acknowledging the puddle or how aggressively the bartender handled the situation, management keeps doubling down with excuses. The real issue here is not tables -- it's customer service and basic cleanliness. Actions speak louder than words -- respectful service and a clean space go a lot further than excuses.

10/10 I love this place so much and visit whenever I go to San Diego. The bar starts getting crowded around 9pm but it's easy to escape to the back patio to get drinks and food, which is what we did. $9 for a Jack and Coke with lime. $10 for the 1.5 pound wings, which is an amazing price considering it's enough to split. Their drinks are heavy handed and you get your moneys worth. I recommend coming during happy hour if you're looking for a more chill environment since the deals are great too. Free parking can be rough but it's doable. Customer service is great as well. Every bartender I've talked to is very nice and theyre efficient. Atmosphere is cozy, casual, and inclusive. There's always a range of age groups and people.

Our bartender Mike was great, and may Mai Thai ($14) defiantly did what it needed to do. It was sweet, strong and served with the cutest bear-shaped glass with a beautiful purple flower on top. One drink had a girl feeling tipsy. We ordered from the late-night "midnight Bites" menu, which was the only thing we could choose from at the hour of our visit. Everything we selected was really good. Wed got the Frito Pie ($12), Chicken thigh tenders ($7), and Tots ($7). The frito pie presentation was my second favorite part (after the bear glass drink), It came in a all-clad style bowl with the chip bag cut open inside, loaded with Texas-style chilli, melted nacho cheese, and shredded cheese. It was so good I even started adding tots in there too. The tots and Thigh tenders had the perfect crisp! They have sweet and sour chili sauce for dipping with the chicken which was fab! The retro decor made the place even better. I loved seeing the old Blockbuster VHS tapes and music cassettes displayed around the bar. My little eye also spot the Dallas Cowboys flag! Texas energy is definitely in the house. There's also a small arcade area in the back, and my eyes instantly lit up seeing PAC-Man. We didn't get to fully explore the game room because we were trying to make it to Ghirardelli Ice cream & Chocolate shop for dessert before they closed at midnight too. Thankfully everything worked out perfectly since our car was parked right in front of Ghirardelli. NO military discount was honored here even though the owner is a veteran, but overall I still had a really good experience and would definitely come back whenever I'm in the Gaslamp district in SD, Cali. (Oops posted it on a smoke shop in Texas. This review was meant to be shared here) Update: Response to owner: Joe V. That was the best response from any owner I have ever received!!! I love that you mentioned yall haven't been mistaken for a smoke shop in Texas, that Mai Thai last mea bit. Yes sir I reckon it did.

I actually ended up calling the Tavern and Bowl to see if they had any earlier reservations and they told me if the person who requested an earlier time didn't pay the deposit I'd get the time slot. I am so lucky because these people didn't pay their deposit and we got the time and the lane. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by an uplifting open-air environment, truly a breath of fresh air that felt like stepping onto the observation deck of the USS Enterprise. The amazing views of the bay were nothing short of spectacular, bringing a serene beauty that rivals the finest star systems. Over the years, my wife, her girlfriend, and I have become frequent travelers to this culinary haven, beaming back for nearly 15 years--a testament to its enduring allure. The selection of IPAs and mixed drinks is impressive, catering to even the most discerning palates in the galaxy. The choices are vast enough to satisfy anyone embarking on this flavor exploration, whether you prefer a refreshing drink to toast a successful mission or something bolder, like a phaser on stun! The menu features a delightful array of options, including fresh salads, tantalizing finger foods, and, of course, their famed burgers. My wife's enthusiasm for the offerings has always been infectious, and during this visit, she and her girlfriend were on a culinary adventure of their own, indulging in the flavors that have made Nicky Rottens a local favorite.
