The idea of this post is to inform people of the great experience we had and that people should definitely consider using her for all sorts of photos. She has been in business for 10 years and has a wealth of experience. Two days before we arrived she sent us info about everything we would need to know so we would be prepared and ready for a successful photo session. I thought that was a nice touch. It was amazing to watch her work and we had no issues allowing her to handle Our newborn so she could get the best images possible. She made sure she told us everything she was doing, washed her hands more than necessary and, also asked us if we were ok with her doing whatever we she was going to do before she did it. At times our baby was rather uncooperative in that he didn't want to sleep and not a single time did she lose her patience. She really wanted him to go to sleep but he put up a heck of a fight. She hung in there for as long as necessary comforting him to get him to fall asleep. She knew the right times for diaper changes, feedings and could read him so she could work on appropriate photos/poses when the time was right for him. Her meticulous attention to detail and lighting was quite impressive. Listen, I went to college for art and she was showing me what a great photo was and what didn't work. Honestly, I didn't really see a difference. She paid attention to the position of his little fingers and so many other aspects I never would have considered in order to get the best photo for each "pose". My wife and I could not have been happier with the experience and we highly recommend people consider her. I personally think she gives far more than should be expected for the price when compared to other photographers. We will be going back to her for 6 month and 1 year photos as well. She even did a better job than us (the parents) at getting our daughter to fall asleep for the shoot. Her home studio was warm, cozy and inviting. The lighting for the photoshoot also appeared to be better than the studio we used for our older child. Melissa went the extra mile in coercing our older 2 year old to pose for photos, even though she was on the verge of having a tantrum. Pricing for the newborn shoot was also very fair for the almost 3 hour session. Read on to learn why! We found Matt after admiring his work on Instagram. We loved his eye for candid moments. And while Matt doesn't like the word "moody", we loved his use of natural light and "romantic" *cough* *moody* photography style. ;) With a background in video/photo production, searching for a photographer was a serious, time-consuming task for me. I had a very specific style of photography in mind, as well as a budget to adhere to. I waited a very long time before ultimately reaching out to Matt (only because he was actually a little outside of our budget) ...but I kept finding myself gravitating towards his work. And after our first call, in my gut I knew - he was who we were looking for. **PLANNING** You don't have to be a bride to know how important communication is when planning a wedding. Matt was super responsive via email (even if it was to tell us he would respond at a later point) and always available to schedule a call when he wasn't already shooting a wedding. After a call to see if we were a good fit, he followed up promptly with a contract, booking form and my own portal to his site where everything would be stored. LOVE IT! Bookmark that shizz ladies... Closer to the wedding, we jumped on a call to walk through his typical shot list and customized it to our day. Matt helped us consider the best ways to utilize him as a photographer, but also gave us a few ideas on how to keep our guests happy while we were off taking sunset photos. CAKE, CAKE, CAKE, CAKE... ;D **PRICING** Matt's prices are obviously subject to change as his fame and talent grow... ;D But brides, I also know how extremely frustrating it is to be looking at photographers (or any vendor for that matter) and not know what anyone charges!! (Know your audience wedding vendors - list your prices!!) At the time we hired Matt, we hired him for a "Partial Day" which included 8hrs of coverage for $3500. He also had "Full Day" (12hrs - $4000) + "Elopement" (2hrs - $1200) packages. And offered a second shooter for $300/$250 for the day. MATT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY! His partial/full day packages also include an "Engagement Session" which I believe is very important in getting to know your photographer. Unfortunately, my husband + I live in San Diego, and so nowhere near Matt or where we were getting married. He worked with us to reflect this in his package, and ultimately fit within our budget. *Whatapro! We also didn't hire a second shooter...and honestly not so sure we needed one. Matt covered a lot of ground. **DAY OF...** Matt came out early to our venue and scouted around for sunset and family shots to put our minds at ease. And as we started to arrive he offered to help with anything we might need. #sweetheart. He knew when to be assertive and give us some much-needed direction and how to fade into the shadows and let a moment play out for that perfect candid. I think the biggest surprise of our wedding day was hearing from all our guests how much they LOVED our photographer. I wasn't surprised by the fact Matt is a sweet guy, we already knew that. We loved him too. But think about that...how many weddings have you been to where you told the couple you loved their photographer? But after reviewing all our beautiful photos, we understand why.
