This is a revision of my negative review ... I can say, at least now I am able to feel better about last night's situation... The owner of Reedville called me today and sincerely apologize for the situation that took place lastnight! I wasn't asking for anything but an apology last night and that did not come from the manager, but the owner was not pleased and is more than adequately taking care of things for us! I have to say that says a lot about his business ethics! After talking to him I understand he is in a really tough spot! He is a new owner and trying to live up to the expectations of his customers who have been coming there for many years! He is trying to keep things the way that Rick had them so it keeps customers happy but there are things he would like to change (the meal we had lastnight is one of then) but he is afraid to ruin the reputation of the restaurant by making changes to quickly! He is keeping the menu consistent with the original menu and recipes and hoping the customers will be willing to accept that some changes can be good, so he can possibly try new things! I really do appreciate him calling me back and at least apologizing and recognizing that the situation that happened last night was not appropriate! With all that said, because of him I will give them another try! I hope that others will too! Let's all give him a little time to get settled and hope that he will continue to make good changes, that continue to please the public! Thank you very much! We called and complained to the manager and all she did was offers to come in on a Tuesday and get a senior discount! Seriously???? I said why would I come back in for food that was inferior and you're not even going to stand behind? She said, well all I can say is our recipes haven't changed so, next time you come in don't order that! Because of her response I certainly wouldn't go back and I really think that other people should think about it themselves! Like I said to her, If your food hasn't changed then you should be willing to stand by your Recipe/Quality because, today, it is not good! The chicken fried steak looked like a little thin hamburger patty with some kind of cheap breading, like it a premade store-bought processed patty. Typically chicken fried steak is a chicken breast pounded out with a crunchy breading that is deep fried. The vegetables stink!!! They were hard and smelled rotten, like the broccoli and cauliflower were old! The gravy was just short of a packaged gravy you could make from the grocery store! The manager would not budge on belief of our experience, stating their food was high quality and nothing had changed in years. She was rude and was not even apologetic , she would not offer a discount and didn't care that she had an unhappy customer! If this is how they run their business then people should think hard about going there! This certainly NOT the Reedville Cafe that it always has been! I came in a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. I loved the coffee (not too strong but also not weak). The steak and eggs is the best I have had in the area. I was particularly impressed with the service. She caught an issue with my order (I asked for dry toast, butter on the side) before it actually came to the table. When she brought my steak and eggs she let me know that fresh toast would be along shortly. There was never an empty cup on the table. I love diners that serve quality food. I love Bannings in Tigard. It will be hard to justify the drive to Tigard now that I know Reedville Cafe is so good. read more

Greeted & seated in a comfy booth very promptly. Our server hit us up with coffee and water options fairly quickly. Nice variety of options for breakfast & bonus, some items are served all day long! Grant (our server) was impressive as he took our orders with memorization vs writing anything down. Excellent portions, drinks refilled often and without asking. The coffee was absolutely the worst coffee I think I've ever had... Totally taste like dishwater... The hash browns were cold... The egg was well done instead of over medium... We were looking for a place to have lunch, that was not a franchise. Reedville Cafe was 3 miles down the road, and we were hoping they were worth the drive. We were able to park, right in front of the door, we were seated right away, and the restaurant had a warm & cozy feel and there were a lot of people already having lunch. My only regret, we were not seated by a window. (Do they even have a window?) Service was prompt and attentive. I ordered the Fish & Chips with a side of coleslaw, and it came with fries (though a little too fat for my taste). The two pieces of fish was very hot! But my lunch was filling and had enough for another meal. We also had a side order of clam chowder, and we ate half & half and that too, was very hot! It came with oyster crackers. Hubby thought it was tasty, but it was too creamy for my taste. Hubby ordered the meatloaf special which came with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans. They were good, except that the beans were undercooked. He had them for lunch with mashed potatoes, and fully cooked them in the microwave. They had some delicious looking desserts in the display glass, and we were tempted to, when we walked in, but we didn't order them. I'd like to come back and try some of their menu items. Fabulous service from Misty! Ordered and a Rueben was on the table within 10 minutes. Large thick potato fries were crispy and hot. It was lunch time and a group was a little noisy but it didn't impact the quality of our lunch experience. read more

A nice cosy looking cafe/diner. It was okay. Nothing write home about. The country skillet was supposed to have home fried cubed potatoes, but they were straight up potato wedges!! Which completely overwhelmed the dish. They tasted and felt like they were frozen from a bag. It feels a bit insulting to say one thing and completely change the dish. It may seem like a small thing but I was excited for and expecting small cubed fried tomatoes, fresh. The potatoes were very uneven in texture. Some soft, some hard... they tasted stale and old. There wasn't much seasoning in the gravy so I put a lot of salt and pepper. Couldn't finish the dish, way too many potatoes. The staff was nice but I don't feel like we were checking on us very much and they weren't busy. The lighting is dimmed and maybe dimmed a little too much, it felt dark. This was for breakfast at 10:30am. The Alaskan coffee was so booze heavy it was not even enjoyable. There's also a sign outside that says "crab fest" but it's been up for several years which makes me think the crab is not fresh but likely store bought stuff. Can't confirm that though. read more

I ordered the grilled fish tacos and they were amazing. Very little salt which I requested. I'm very happy that the rice that came with. It was very good and I ordered the jalapeño margarita. Oh Lord have mercy. I could've drank five of them. Staff was incredible. Service was amazing. Ambience was nice. If you advertise crab, people just assume freshness. I ordered a crab and shrimp sandwich (on one piece of bread) and look how pathetic it looks. Cheese looks like cheap plastic imitation cheese, absolutely no kind of sauce, could barely see a tomato slice, this is the most sorry looking seafood dish I have ever seen. It costs $20. Service was okay and so was the Ambiance, I'm just appalled at this so called melt. Shoulda got the steak and eggs. Pleasantly surprised by the small-town café atmosphere -- cozy, clean, and very well maintained. The staff were warm, friendly, and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Under the new ownership, this place has truly stepped up its game. The chicken and waffles are an absolute must-try for breakfast--the hot Mike's honey and apricot jam they drizzle on top are out of this world. Ok...I really should not post this review because I don't want this place to get overly popular and busy...but I will say with 100% conviction that this is THE best breakfast in Portland....hands down. Start with the service...which is exceptional. The staff is super friendly...you almost feel like family there. The bartenders and drinks are top notch...they have a lot of creative drinks in their menu. And lastly the food...it is just darn good. I always opt for a ham and cheese omelette with hash browns and toast...the omelette is soft and cheesey...the hash brown are always cooked perfectly with crisp on the outside and moist on the inside..:and the toast is on point. Our server avoided us like we were the plague. Totally ignored us. Took 22 minutes for him to come over and ask if we wanted water. The food, a Sausage and cheese Omelette, with a Side of Hash Brown Potatoes, & Sour Dough Toast. The food is good, I will order it again, but my one and only complaint is the same complaint, which is, it really bugs me when the food arrives at the table Only Warm, Not Hot. Great locally owned place. Been coming here for years. Hadn't been in a while and came here a few weeks ago and remembered how good it was. As far as local Hillsboro places go- I would say Reedville Cafe and Hales are the two best breakfast places in Hillsboro. The French toast combo is probably the best French toast I've had around here. (Shouldn't be that hard to do, but so few actually do it right.) The right bread, dip-mix, and syrup. So good! Their scrambled eggs are done perfectly every time. I order with cheese on them. Great bacon too- I order it crispy. The pancakes are excellent too. I think maybe I like Hales a tiny bit better- but it is negligible. Overall some of the best ones around here. Love the fact that they serve you heated syrup. The little things like that make a big difference. Had the fish and chips a few weeks ago. Really good. Bigger than I expected and tastier too. Really good fresh coleslaw, great tarter sauce, fresh cod or halibut and crispy fries. Really good! Fortunate to have them here! read more

I decided to order just a salad didn't really want much beyond a salad and it wasn't that great. Our hostess didn't seem very happy but nevertheless, I enjoyed my lunch meeting with a good friend the salad was basic the tomatoes and the salad were particularly sweet and it was pretty no-frills house salad, so probably not something I would order again, and not sure I would visit again. read more

A very quaint little breakfast joint with a relaxing atmosphere. I ordered the French toast combo like many others and instead of bacon, sausage links or patties, I ordered a ham steak and it made my day. Bone in shank offered a bit of marrow and it was truly a little treat. Orange juice was fresh and well portioned. Staff was friendly and prompt. It wasn't the best breakfast I've ever eaten but it was quite honest. I would recommend to anyone in the area that was hungry for breakfast after lunchtime. I've been here off and on for the past 35+ years. Usually for a drink with friends and the occasional meal. Had breakfast this morning and as usual they didn't disappoint. The morning clientele is mostly aging yuppie geezers so as a greasy Biker I didn't exactly fit in. Not that I care about that. They were out there protesting the war while I was fighting it so we have zip in common. Back to the cafe: corned beef hash, not from a can, eggs, toast and a short stack this morning. Coffee was a little weak but the meal was tasty and filling. $26 including the standard gratuity. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. No complaints at all. This place is a legendary, legacy establishment in the Reedville neighborhood of Aloha. One of the few last remaining relics of when Aloha was a little cow town in the middle of farm country and a Hillsboro orphan. With the mega ghetto being built just across the tracks I'm guessing this cafe's days are numbered but I hope not. Stopped in yesterday, a Sunday a lunch...they were pretty visit so we had to wait a few minutes. The decor is a bit outdated and worn, and the carpets were fairly peppered with food. They were quite busy, so I'm sure they were just trying to keep up. The menu is decently extensive, and the service very friendly. We opted for a 2 piece halibut and chips and the chicken quesadilla. The food came out extremely fast, which made it very confusing that the food was just warm. Odd... Even though it wasn't hot enough, the food tasted good...not great, but good. The quesadilla could've used some more ingredients, expand that flavor a bit. The halibut was cooked well, but the pieces were pretty small. Overall it was an ok first visit.
