We visited this location when on vacation. We wanted to see how the restaurant compared to those in…read morethe U.S. We did visit at dinner time and it was quite busy. We had to wait awhile to receive our food and the employees seemed stressed and frustrated by the amount of customers waiting. The downstairs area is smaller without much seating. Upstairs there is a lot of seating and activity tables for the children. Condiment stands are available on both floors. The second flood was closed before we left so I'm not sure how seating would work with a lot of people. There were some tables outside too. The veggie burger was delicious and I hope it is brought to the States!

This place was just a few minutes off the motorway and it was the only place that was open. Truth is we had passed it by accident as we didn't even know it was there. I simply refuse to go into these motorway cafes as they just rip people off, and the more people who opt to stay away then they'll be forced to reduce insatiable corporate greed. As bean to cup coffee goes it's not really all that bad either and at £1.49 for a good portioned white or black coffee it's fairly priced. Even at the unearthly hour we weren't the only customers as a few white van drivers were enjoying breakfast. The lady serving gave me a very cheerful welcome and rustled up two coffees lickety spit. She offered extra milk and was generally just too happy so early in the day.

I note that the pâtisserie list on The Wolfhouse website just goes on and on and on, with 20-30 items on the list advertised as being available each day. This quote from their 'Savouries' webpage sums up the cheerfully inventive spirit, "When we run out of one thing, we find something else to cook. Simple! It's just so much more fun that way!" With so much inventive spirit, plus everything so well-sourced and made from scratch, I think we can safely say that this 30-seater café is a better option for the serious foodie than a lot of fine dining places. Staff are generally welcoming of almost anyone, whether a small family, large family, group of hikers, dog walkers, children. Everyone. The sign at the entrance even reads "muddy boots welcome" It's absolutely the best on a bright sunny day, table seating inside makes it an all year place to go if you're in the area.
