Refuge Coffee in Fairhope is such a chill/quiet spot. My husband and I stopped in and enjoyed our drinks. I got the cold brew and my husband ordered a cortado which both were really well balanced but definitely not very sweet at all. They make their own syrups in house which is a nice touch but this is definitely a place that lets the coffee shine. You can tell they roast their own beans and care more about highlighting the actual flavor of the coffee rather than masking it with a ton of sweetness. If you prefer your drinks on the sweeter side, I'd definitely recommend asking for a good bit of extra syrup. My husband and I stopped by for a little evening pick me up, we are not from the area and had visited some tourist attractions earlier in the day and were wanting something to sip on as we made our way back home. I had a wonderful matcha latte with a splash of lavender syrup, hubs got a traditional hot mocha. We were both very happy with the quality of the flavors. Definitely tasted like real house made syrups and not just some basic torani stuff. It has its place of course but homemade will always be best. Service was both hospitable and quick. Very clean too. Their coffee deserves a 5, their lack of baked goods and comfort of furniture is why I can't give them 5 stars. We travel to Fairhope every few months to visit family. Every time we come we get coffee from Refuge, it's smooth, delicious and maybe the best in town. However, every time we have come here, they are out of most of their baked goods. We would love to come to sit and enjoy breakfast. If you're just coming for coffee to go, this is the place. But if you want to stay a while and maybe eat breakfast or enjoy a treat, you may be disappointed. They didn't have iced coffee so I tried a macchiato and it was authentic Italian coffee, it came in a tiny cup and I was expecting very strong but it wasn't too bad. My husband got their signature coffee and he loved it. I loved the coziness of the shop it was very comfortable. If it got crowded it would be close quarters. The service was good, only one person and by the looks of things he was about to get his butt handed to him because they were coming in fast. This is a great little coffee shop to visit in downtown Fairhope. I stopped into this coffee shop to do some work for about an hour while I was in Fairhope for Thanksgiving this week. There are plenty of seating options to choose from inside ranging from couches, tables, high tops and a couple individual chairs near the windows at the front of the coffee shop. The coffee shop has a subtle hipster vibe to the overall appearance and atmosphere. They have a very simple menu, but enough options to suit the needs of any coffee lover's taste buds! I ordered their signature latte called, the "Signature", which has local honey and cinnamon blended into the latte. It was light in flavor with a hint of sweetness from the honey. The barista who took my order recommended this drink to me. I'm glad I ordered it, because I could drink this all the time if I lived down here! The price tag on this drink was $4.96 which included tax. Expect to pay anywhere from $3-$6 depending on what drink you order. The baristas were very quick and professional with serving their customers. There were about 6 people in front of me and only two baristas working. I had my drink within a couple minutes after ordering which was very much appreciated. I will definitely stop into this coffee shop again when I am down in Fairhope! It is smooth, never bitter (I prefer light roast, which makes a difference) and there are usually delicious and fresh baked goods to pair with your hot or cold beverage. The staff are delightful! Stopped in for a coffee and water while walking around Downtown Fairhope on a ridiculously hot day yesterday. It was nice and cool inside and there was plenty of seating available, but I didn't sit. A few people seemed to be working from their laptops. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. I ordered an iced oat milk latte (my go-to) and the espresso was deliciously smooth. I'm guessing the oat milk was a barista blend because it was thick and smooth, unlike the watery regular oat milk from the grocery store some shops use. We also picked up some water bottles from their little fridge. They had sparkling waters available too. I recommend this coffee shop if you're strolling around Fairhope and need to cool off or take a break! read more

Went here over Thanksgiving Break 2018 while on a beach day trip from New Orleans. It was our post-lunch, pre-beach pick-me-up. Little things: 1. Free street parking. There's a great smelling diner right around the corner (we didn't go there but we would've if we were hungry). 2. Coffee shop stickers aren't free. Lots of coffee shops have free sticker swag and I mistakenly thought this was the same as I like covering my water bottles in cafe swag. Barista was quick to let me know it wasn't free (not in a mean way). This is just an FYI. 3. One bathroom in the back. Coffee: Real great coffee! I got the Cappuccino and Espresso while my girlfriend got one of the flavored Cappuccinos. Presentation was in a nice tray that was designed for the shop. Coffee art was on point and the espresso pour was strong. I'm not a fan of the flavored coffee, but they had a pretty decent selection for the menu size. Environment/Service: Might be because it was during a holiday, but there was a mix of people studying and people chatting...It was initially pretty quiet, but then a couple large groups came in. The location was great, the decor was nice. They interacted with their customers in a friendly manner. I asked about their coffee and they gave me a free espresso shot. One of the patrons was very friendly and told us about her favorite drink the Gibraltar. We also got an iced latte which I thought was very good. The espresso was good, but I thought it was a bit bitter. My favorite espresso drink is a mocha frappe (when done well, a real espresso drink), but frappes weren't an option. There was no cream available, I had to ask for it behind the counter. That felt a bit a bit restrictive, but the owner said that it was because they feel it is better (tastier) if they steam the milk before adding it. I saw them make a latte, and the barista knew what he was doing with the latte art. Their beans were roasted at Broadway Roasting Company in Kansas City, MO. I wish I had more time to experience this shop, but unfortunately we live in another state and were only able to come here once. read more
