So glad I went here. The place was excellent in every way. My father recently died. My mother and father are not from the area they retired here 5 years ago and made the Shore area their home. Picking a funeral home is an uncertain task during a trying time and Janelle was wonderful. The whole experience was fluid. Janelle was in contact and if needed I could ALWAYS reach her. She got what I needed although I had no idea. Took care of everything from Local Obituaries to papers in Other states, to death certificates and more. It was a complete hassle free experience and much less cost than I expected quite frankly. I never do this, but my recent experience compels me to warn others! I would give 0 stars if I could! My mother passed away on a Sunday night and I had the body taken to Reilly-Bonner. She had her wedding rings on. I asked for my mother's rings to be removed twice before her body was cremated. I was assured on both occasions that this would be no problem. I waited 2 weeks but was never called and told the ashes were ready, I had to call them. I picked up the ashes and when I asked about the rings, I was told that they were there somewhere, but just not sure where. Jimmy looked around and then when he couldn't find them said he would ask "Tommy who cut the rings off" where he put them. One week later I reached out to ask about the rings. I get a call back 6 hours later stating that unfortunately the rings were burned with the body because the rings could not be removed unless the finger was cut off (?). When I expressed upset regarding this and asked for clarification, I was basically told this is what happens when rings can't be removed, and I could sift through the ashes to retrieve the diamonds. I still don't understand how someone who is in charge of something as precious as a loved one's remains, and property can do what they want without at least notifying the family in advance. I gave permission for the body to be cremated, not the rings! I trusted someone with one of the most sentimentally valuable things I owned as my mother wore those rings for 69 years and this is what I get. read more

Mr. Bonner did an amazing job with my Father's wake and funeral on 14NOV22. It was professional, organized and very comforting to all of my Father's family and friends. Mr Bonner exhibited compassion, patience and expertise in handling everything related to the celebration of life for a large number of people and some tension that happens often with loss. Reilly Bonner recently arranged my brother's wake and funeral. Jim Bonner was kind and sympathetic to our very tragic, sudden loss. Jim had good suggestions for the funeral services, music, prayer cards etc. Very respectful to our family and professional, especially during COVID; --we had a lot of mourners and they had a team of people ensuring the proper number of people at a time paid their respects and were masked up. We had the death certificates within days, and Jim was very flexible when we needed to return to RB to retrieve items and flowers from the home. If I could do no stars I would. This was an absolute nightmare. Many things went wrong. My sisters pray cards were not there for the service the. When we got them they didn't have the pray we selected on them. Bonner seemed more concerned with the fact we chose the picture of African American hands then getting them right. We went to pick up my sisters ashes, no urn after we ordered one. He told us he forgot to look at the paperwork and forgot to order, he will do so and order it should be there in 3 days. It's been 3 weeks and the urn is not there. He told the woman covering for him while he is on vacation that it might be somewhere in the office. I just got off the phone with her and there is no urn. This is beyond traumatic my sister was a covid nurse and a good person she did not deserve this at all. read more

Not very organized or friendly. Did not listen to the families requests. Seemed like they were rushing us out. They did do a great job setting up my dad, he looked great. They also do not take care of their property as my husband fell on the ice on the steps because there was no salt put down. read more

My family had the benefit of Jim Bonner's professionalism and sensitivity at a difficult time after the loss of my mother. Communication between the funeral home and the family was responsive, the staff worked to provide us with great service and everything was handled beautifully. My mother passed away in November 2016. We used Reilly Bonner Funeral Home for her services. When Mr Bonner gave me the death certificate there was an error on it. He told me he would have it corrected. After many phone calls to Mr Bonner,most of which were not returned, I still have not gotten the corrected death certificate. I got in touch with the NJ Department of Vital Statistics and had them correct the mistake. They told me the corrected death certificate was sent to Mr Bonner's computer at the funeral home. I called him three times before he called me back to tell him he has the corrected death certificate on his computer and to send me the new copy. He told me it's not his job to do this. I reminded him that we had paid for the death certificates as part of the funeral expense. He proceeded to hang up on me. Never use Reilly Bonner Funeral home in Belmar NJ! read more

I've been calling for months, leaving messages with the answering service, emailing, and my father-in-law, who was a Vietnam vet, who passed away last year, still does not have his burial marker paperwork submitted to the VA. The funeral home has had the application since late last year and keeps saying they submitted the application, but everytime i contact the VA, they say no application on file. Everytime i do speak to Mr. Bonner, he assures me he will get this taken care of. Now, no call backs, no email responses, nothing. My father-in-law still has no marker. This not acceptable, if you take on the responsibility, you don't avoid it. The family came to this funeral home because they trusted their loved one would be taken care of with dignity and honor. What makes a great funeral director? One with personal ethics and traits including professionalism, good judgment, compassion and who should provide dignity and respect to grieving families. James Bonner is lacking in all of these attributes and needs to find a new line of work. My family chose Reilly Bonner Funeral Home since it was local to the cemetery and in the same town as our Mother. She passed away in January and due to religious custom, the planned funeral service needed to be organized quickly. Losing a loved one is very stressful; we needed to rely on Mr. Bonner to lend support with final burial arrangements and expected him to be consoling in our time of loss. His lack of sensitivity was disappointing. Our experience went from bad to worse one month after the funeral when we were notified by a third party that he owed our family a refund due to a billing error. He was unresponsive to our numerous messages and we were appalled when he dared us to sue to him, so we did! What is even more disturbing is two days before the scheduled court date, he sends a text (we may or may not have been an intended recipient) in which he stated he purposely delayed payment along with an anti-Semitic remark. We chose this funeral home based on their supposed nondenominational approach and trusted him with our loved one, only to be told he hates Jews. This tactless racist individual has no business being in the funeral industry. read more
