For starters it's literally right next to lake Garda and is in every way stunning! The guy helping us was so sweet and welcoming and took us directly to our room. The room has a stair case and has 3 beds. The bathroom is upstairs and even has our own balcony. I really wish we can stay here because it's gorgeous 100% recommend!!!

I honestly don't usually write stuff like this, but the trip was so bad (and honestly unsafe) that I feel like I need to warn people. Two of our group have serious allergies. One has celiac (gluten) and one has a coconut allergy that can trigger anaphylaxis. We told the hotel over and over -- when booking, at check-in, before meals -- "NO gluten, NO coconut, it's life or death." First dinner at their Michelin-starred restaurant: we remind them about the gluten allergy, tell them it's extremely serious. Two minutes later they bring a steak dish with soy sauce in the sauce (which obviously has gluten). He had to send it back. Then every day they served him vanilla ice cream, and one server told him it had gluten in it. He panicked, called his doctor, and by the end of the trip he'd had gluten shock. He left a night early because he didn't feel safe eating anything there. Later management tried to say the ice cream didn't have gluten... so who do we believe? Damage was already done. The coconut allergy friend got served a smoothie with coconut milk at breakfast. When he flagged it, the waiter literally shrugged and said "I told you so." He then spent the whole day in his room, anxious, waiting to see if he'd react. The next morning, another server tried to bring the exact same coconut smoothie to our table AGAIN after we had explicitly said no coconut. When we brought this up with management: They refused to refund the night our gluten-free friend left early. They accused us of faking the doctor's note (!!). After we pushed back, they ignored all our calls and emails. Their excuse was that since no ambulance was called to the hotel, they weren't responsible. We were lucky the exposures were small, but the way they handled it was terrifying. At a so-called 5-star hotel, the bare minimum is knowing what food might seriously harm your guests. Other stuff was bad too -- the "Michelin-star" meal was painfully slow and the food tasted awful. Ruined the birthday dinner we had planned. Who tf makes a taco shell out of saffron then fills it with some weird green cream? But honestly, I wouldn't even mention those things if it weren't for the allergy mess. Lake Garda itself is beautiful and the hotel property could be amazing, but the management is negligent and defensive. If you have allergies, or just expect proper 5-star service, I'd avoid this place.

Very friendly and helpful staff, very nice restaurant, large and deluxe room with a huge bathroom, lots of hot water, lots of towels, very comfortable bed... My wife and I suffered from a tire explosion on the highway (without a spare!) while en route to Venice for her 30th birthday. Due to some complications with the rental agency, we were stranded without a place to go. We thought our Italy trip was ruined. Everything changed when we found this place. Christian, the late night front desk man, spoke fluent English and made us feel at ease. He booked us the last room available, poured us a glass of wine and welcomed us to our room. Our eyes lit up as we walked through the immaculate hotel with patios, gardens, and the pleasant sound of birds chirping. This happened just before midnight and I could not have felt more welcome. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the room was spacious and the bathrooms came equipped with a shower and tub. The wifi is super fast and the breakfast is AMAZING and hands down the best and most options of any hotel breakfast I've ever had. All included! Luckily for us the rental agency picked up the tab but knowing what we know now-- I would not hesitate for a second to book a room here. We stayed in #54 which I believe was a suite. Right near the train station, rooftop patio with a lake view and the friendliest staff you could possibly imagine. I love this place.

Long story short, we were stranded all day and I was getting pretty bummed that my birthday plans were going to be ruined (I was turning 30 at midnight). For some reason before we arrived at this hotel everyone we dealt with had been confusingly mean to us. By the time we arrived at Piccola Vela, I was in tears. Usually, I never stay at hotels without Yelp reviews, but I had a feeling about this place... and I'm so glad to stay my intuition was right. Piccola Vela was supposed to be booked up due to an event, but by some divine grace, one guest never showed and a room became available. Piccola Vela and its staff saved my birthday experience. This is the kind of hotel where everyone knows your name and goes out of their way to make sure you're accommodated. The breakfast was huge and the food was so delicious. They had everything you could hope for in a breakfast and more... The scrambled eggs were probably the best I've ever had, there was fresh fruit, muesli, pastries, all kinds of coffee / cappucinos / teas, a huge selection of very high-quality honey... I could seriously go on and on. They brought out nuts and crackers while we lounged by the pool and brought a cheese and olive plate when we ordered wine. The alcohol was surprisingly cheap for this caliber hotel. We never ordered dinner, but from what we saw and heard, their restaurant is also amazing. The atmosphere is also awesome. It seemed as though there were all these little nooks to hang out in everywhere you go. Last but not least, the man who helped us was probably my favorite person in Italy. If you stay here, get to know Christian. You will be glad you did. :-)

This is a low-key hotel in the middle of a charming Italian countryside. We stopped here for a one-night stay after a day on Cinque Terre (on our way to Bologna). I would have stayed for many nights! No longer the Alberghi Grand Hotel, this property has been rebadged and is a part of the IHG…read moregalaxy. It is the "Hotel Indigo Verona - Grand Hotel Des Arts, an IHG Hotel." Two nights here, it is quite good. I do not have status with the IHG chain but I had booked direct so we were put in a twin bed room on the first floor facing the street. Despite that, there wasn't too much street noise and the balcony overlooking the main roadway was nice to sit on for a bit. The hotel does not have its own parking and instead contracts with a parking deck about 20 meters further along that charges a pretty hefty €25 per day. The room was clean and comfortable. We did not put out the do-not-disturb and so the room was refreshed while we were out sightseeing. Coffee service, fresh towels and the beds were made. They did a good job. Breakfast in the -1 level was very good though I don't know that it was €15 per day good. It's only €10 if you book it when you make the reservation. Typical European continental breakfast with eggs, bacon, breads for toasting, lots of pastries, fresh fruit, cereals, sliced ham and turkey and cheese, etc. Coffee is made to order and I was able to put away a pretty decent sized pot of Americano while waiting for my travel mate to wake up, up stairs. The hotel is not quite centrally located but there are restaurants nearby and the Verona Arena is only a mile away down the well traveled boulevard. Bathroom consisted of full sized shower and separate bathtub with television so you can soak and relax. Front desk attendants were friendly and extremely helpful. I found the easiest way to get here from the train station was by taxi ($10 euro inc tip). Google Maps transit guide cannot be trusted. Buses with route numbers greater than 100 do not stop in Verona as suggested by Google. The bus shelter is confusing to a first timer. Not sure when to stand at island B1 or B2. I got on the 51 which listed the correct direction stop on its board only to find that it meant where it was coming from, not going. Not sure why I care where it's been but after 3 stops I knew it was definitely going the opposite way that I was supposed to be. The walk may be 15 minutes but it's uneven surfaces and across a major roundabout intersection. In short, spend the ten.
