I had the absolute worst experience working with Reliable Translation Services. I was contracted on September 17th to do a 14,000+ word job and I provided the estimate on September 19th to Rosa as follows: It looks like approximately 131.8 words per minute give or take. There's a total of about 108.6 minutes giving about 14,313.48 words. At $0.15/word that comes to $2147.02 as the estimate. We then spoke again and agreed on $0.13/word as initially she wanted $0.10/word and I wanted $0.15. She then called me and asked me if I could have it done by the following Thursday (September 26th) as it was extremely time-sensitive and she really wanted to make a good impression on the client. I confirmed that I would have it done before that date. The task was huge, especially given the fact that I was provided with mp3 audio which was shoddily recorded and I was translating directly from the audio. At any rate, I got it done on Wednesday (September 25th) and put it in the Dropbox account. When I called Rosa on the 25th she said that she hadn't gotten the go ahead to proceed with the job after all. Then she referenced the email on the 17th asked for an estimate that I had already provided to her on the 19th! Also she seemed to have amnesia regarding both previous emails where the estimate was provided as well as phone conversations where she asked me to get it done by that Thursday. At that point I immediately removed the translated files from the Dropbox, but I don't know whether she had already gotten it or not. At this point I feel I have been royally screwed by this company as I had to put several other projects on the back burner to do this task and I haven't been compensated a red cent. I know who the client was because I was asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement due to the sensitive nature of the recordings where the client was referenced by name (as I was not to copy or use the information without their written permission). At this point, my only recourse is to contact the client to see if Rosa did get the translated files after all and forwarded them to the client. In short, this company is ironically called Reliable Translation Services but I found their unreliability in dealings monumentally epic. I don't know whether shadiness or just incompetence is to blame, but in either case, think twice before undertaking a translation job with this company as they are liable to forget emails and phone calls when convenient (i.e. when it's time to pay you)! read more
