I have to say, these rocks truly are remarkable.
I don't tend to get overly enthusiastic about natural formations, but these perched on the edge of Kangaroo Island really are something else. I felt a wee bit like a kid as I ambled down the wooden walkway toward the rocks, watching them get bigger and bigger the closer I got! Apparently it took 500 million years for rain, wind, and pounding waves to create these aptly named granite boulders, comprised of black mica, bluish quartz, and pinkish feldspar, and largely covered in golden orange lichen. I'm lichen these rocks. They honestly look like somebody got up there and chiselled away at them until they were happy with their cool shapes and patterns. I could have stayed up there exploring them for hours, honestly.
Having said that, what's also remarkable is the wind. Do not wear a dress, or a hat. Be sensible. And get every photo angle and shot that you can. Make the remarkable rocks your #1 destination when on Kangaroo Island, and hopefully you'll be as spellbound by them as I was. read more
