It's a calm oasis in there, with the most amazing air con and facilities you have seen in a gym. In fact I think gym is too much of a dirty word to associate with this pristine place. Because they keep a cap on membership, there is never a line for the equipment, the instructors are always on hand to dole out helpful advice and they even email to check up on you when you haven't been in for a few days. The facilities available to all members and casual members include a swimming pool, sauna room,a tennis court and a great range of weights/ exercise bikes and heaps of other exercise equipment. There are classes available too, a favourite of mine being tennis fit! And don't even get my started on the bathrooms, and the straighteners available, the shampoo/ conditioner\ bathrobes. They really have thought of everything. Why just the other day I got offered a free hour long facial and massage just for being a member. Have I tempted you yet?

Well, this is where it all started back in 1968 by the Mills family. If you are a Les Mills instructor like me, this is Mecca and it's a big deal to come here. Jamie D'Angelo is one of the managers at this gym who moved to NZ from the US. She gave us a tour of the facility. They have 2 floors and several buildings or towers connected by a bridge. They have a CrossFit area, free weights and machine area, cardio area, boxing area with a ring, and group fitness studios. They film masterclasses in the group fitness studios. The studios are huge and can fit up to 200 people. While in NZ, I took BodyPump, CX, and Body Attack from Dan Cohen, Georgina, Glen Ostergaard, and Susan Renata. I wanted to classes from Ben Main and Lisa Osborne but they were off. I would've loved to take Dan and Rach's Body Combat class but my flight was only 2 hours before their class started and I would have missed my flight. I know most people are like "who are those people and why are they a big deal?!" I'm not usually a big fan girl of actors and actresses but I love athletes, and people who promote Health and Fitness around the world - and that's what these people do and they are good and passionate about it. I'm a bit partial to BodyPump instructors because that's the class I teach (more certifications to come). I absolutely love taking Glen's class - he's the program director after all. He's the man behind the song selections and choreography for BodyPump. I loved Susan's class too - she's very chatty while she teaches and she connects with her participants. Jamie had told her that we were going to her class. Right before class started, we introduced ourselves to Susan and she knew we were "the girls from Vegas" and got a special mention in class. We noticed that the gym members keep to themselves. They go in, they go out. They're not the type that stick around after class to chat with the Instructor or other members like we do at our gym but that might be a cultural thing. The group fitness studios have ear plugs (for people who find the music too loud), drinking fountains and fans with misters. The gym has a small cafe where you can get a snack or a smoothie. There's a vending machine for bottled water and energy drinks. They also have a clothing store that carries mostly Reebok (the official outfitter of Les Mills) and a lady named Mary works there and she is an absolute sweetheart. She's very helpful and friendly. I think you have to pay for parking - not sure how that bit works since we stayed at a hotel nearby and got a multi-day pass.

Suggestion box: Wish there were more mirrors in the group areas and I can't recall which les mills had carpet, Britomart I think, it would be nice if it was...the opposite of carpet. Not sure where all my sweat went or how long it will be there... Also, it's hard to feel like your in an elite fitness club when the walls are trying to convince you you're in a kids club day care. I mean cmon- purple and chartreuse? Hopefully in the near future it'll be replaced with maybe some modern desaturated wall tile or something...well anything accept those two colors together I think would be an improvement. If I loved gyms there is so much to take advantage of at this Club Physical. I'd be assessed by a personal trainer on day 1, weighed (eek) and taken through the gym routine. They've got a circuit of machines, separate weight room for the ladies (great) and loads of classes to take advantage of. If I loved any of these classes I could really take advantage of things like step classes, flex weight class, boxing, spin, pilates, yoga, abs (exhausting just looking at the list, I feel the kilos sliding off me already). But what can I do, I love tennis! I'd still recommend this gym because they offer so much for the membership.

Brand new gym located between Newmarket and Auckland Domain…read more Two group fitness rooms, rpm room and weights/machine room. Got one of two of everything. Not for hardcore lifters. Plenty of classes, I was told it has the most classes out to of all Les Milld. Still going through them all. Some of the instructors are new, so you may have to just try them out. Convenient parking next door but only for 75 min. They have a very weird ticketing system where you have to enter your number plate and get a ticket but you don't have to display the ticket. No cafe like the city gym but I guess it's close enough to Newmarket shops that you can just go there afterwards. Overall Grey new clean place with friendly staff. Check it out!

The double private ensuite room I stayed in was quite clean, and interestingly, during my stay some of the furniture was actually replaced with new ones as part of a hostel-wide makeover. Note that the room didn't have its own hair dryer, the nearest was in a shared bathroom. This differs from YHA Lake Tekapo which has a hair dryer in the ensuite rooms.

Front staff was friendly and accommodating to a family with two small boys, let's just say they don't get too many boys under 18. They Quickly helped us find a parking spot in their small lot out front for $15 New Zealand. ($30 deposit) They even searched high and low and called other hostels to find us the one crib for our two year old they had. She brought it up that night and helped my husband set it up. The crowd is a typical hostel crowd with lots of 18 to 26-year-olds from all over the world. Also, a couple what seem like retirees from Spain and Britain. The crowd is quieter & more well behaved than what I'm used to in hostels. Of course the last time I stayed in a hostel it was probably 1998 in Amsterdam. They have a beautiful commercial type kitchen. There is laundry on site & a game room in the basement. The room is very small, basically our bed, but it was perfect for our family for one night after a long fight. The price was right! (~$50 US) The bathrooms and showers are actually private. I loved the stainless steel shower stall, HOT water & Strong pressure. The breakfast situation wasn't great as nothing is open till late 9ish on Sundays & my kids were starving & up at 0600. We loved dinner in the Stables. We would stay again.

When I discovered that the gym was tucked away under a popular food court and Asian supermarket; I was down the escalator and to the desk to sign up. I think a few may think a gym under a food court; is this not tempting? Well it didn't bother me, and once I got involved in all the different classes they have I couldn't care less about the greasy food upstairs. The trainers at the gym are fit and really inspire you to be like them. I enrolled in Zumba, Kick Boxing, Yoga, Pilates and even small circuit boxing, and enjoyed every second of the 1 hour classes. The gym has an area dedicated to weight lifting, a women's only section, a cardio room, and boxing circuit room, and a spin class room. Why not try out a different class, you may just love it like I realized. If your body is feeling the strains of being active, there is an onsite massage therapist and a beauty therapy studio as well. I really got a kick out of this gym!

I play squash here a couple times a week. It gets super busy so you have to book, which you have to…read moredo either through the websites or by ringing the centre and speaking to Trevor. Trevor is great by the way and will quickly know you by name and face. There's about six courts from memory, and you can hire them for 45 minutes at a time. Or more if you book them out in succession. We buy succession cards, which cost $70 for ten clicks. You can hire out rackets for four dollars, and a ball too if you need it. The centre has a Subway and there's also a gym. There's plenty of car parks out front as well, but at certain times the centre can get quite busy and you might have to do a couple of circles.
