For a budget-friendly option, the fly menu is a go-to. $6 for a burger makes it an easy dinner choice. Renner's has been around forever and has maintained a really fun vibe. Multnomah village is this charming combination of old school businesses, village charm and only 10 minutes outside of Portland. The hidden gem in the village is renner's. They are literally in the heart of the village without door patio sitting that is perfect for summer nights. Excellent selection of beer and drinks. However, the real gem is the food you can get to go with your beverage. The fly menu which is available 7 days a week is incredibly budget friendly. I was able to get a delicious veggie burger with cheese for $6 so it is easy to go out for a meal, enjoy the outside summer seeding, give a nice tip and you're still under $20. The staff are incredibly friendly and the vibe is that old school bar. Definitely on my list of affordable go-to places for a burger and beer after work. read more

This place is exactly what I think a dive bar should be. Dark, cramped, booths and a long bar. And of course TVs! Service was very friendly and not overly solicitous. Brought menus, took drink order (my had a very healthy pour) and went away to give us time to decide. When it came food was great! BLT was full of crispy bacon, fresh lettuce and maters and best of all not drowning in mayo. Burger was huge with all the usual accompaniments. Best of all a huge pile of pickles - so many places give you two tiny slices. There was a very steady stream of folks coming in, placing orders and taking them to sit outside. Today, we did not get to the food. While purusing the menu, we got a view of the cook in the kitchen who was wearing a ripped tank top that did not cover his chest at all. All one could imagine was the chest or armpit hair that could wind up in your food. The initial service was prompt and the server was very pleasant. This is exactly as advertised, a total dive, and they are wearing that badge proudly. Its dark and "shabby", but from what I could see it was clean. Server could not answer any questions about the menu or what was on tap, but she was efficient. I came in because they offer a plant-based burger and a hot dog - maybe I should've ordered one of those but instead I ordered a grilled cheese and tots. Horrible. Bread was stale, tots were soaked in old-tasting grease. I can't recommend it, but if you are brave enough there are a bunch of meaty items on the menu that might be better. read more

The gentleman in a baseball cap manning the bar on Saturday, 8/19 when I stepped in around 11:15a to order three drinks and four burgers was likely the most rude, (probably) racist and anti-family server I I have come across. It was a busy time at the bar for sure, and we had put our orders in and waited for about 45 minutes before inquiring around canceling the food order as we closed our tab. His response when I'd politely & apologetically let him know that we had to close out due to our babies' nap schedule: 'that's why we don't allow babies in the bar. Adults have a schedule too and need to nap' and snickered at me and my black girlfriend. I replied that it was my first time at the establishment and he made it abundantly clear we and our families were not welcome at the bar, tipped well on our drinks, and lefty. I took my Son here for Lunch last Friday. We ordered inside and sat in one of the outdoor areas, with water all around, and direct table service with a smile. Both sandwiches were really good and apparently too much food for the Kid, as he took a to-go box home. The whole Multnomah Village looks different under COVID with all the extra outdoor dining areas. So maybe I wouldn't have given Renner's any attention in the "old days". What I discovered this time is that the inside of the Renner's has a great neighborhood pub/dive bar (with food) feel that my Milwaukee born mother instilled a great love. I'm not sure that this kind of place is up Gayle's alley, but I'm sure I'll be back with or without her. And if she calls looking for me, I'm sure the Renner's barkeep will tell her that I'm not there. :) read more

Came out to get a fly swine = burger + pulled pork. It was not on the menu. The menu says "ask about missing items". I ask the bartender "do you no longer have the pulled pork burger" she says "yes it's under Sammies." I try to explain I don't want a sandwich, I want a burger with pulled pork on top. She argues that it's the same thing. So I order a pulled pork Sammie. It is just pulled pork on a ciabatta with coleslaw..... not what I asked for. To clarify... a pulled pork burger.... is a plain burger with a bun and pulled pork on top! So we had one drink each, a burger and sandwich... $53 with tip $63.... For dive bar food.... I remember having food and a few drinks for $30 with tip not too long ago! I get inflation, but at least improve your offerings if you are going to charge more. After living so close in Multnomah Village, I finally decided to check out Renner's and I was pleasantly surprised with my meal! We ordered a Po Boy Sandwich and a Bacon Bleu Burger with an egg! At first I was skeptical about ordering a Po Boy with it being late at night and I'm always concerned about the freshness of seafood, but I loved the deep fried oysters in this sandwich! (UPDATE: I did get food poisoning after ordering this. I would ask about the freshness of this before ordering ) The bread it was on was good but I wish there was more sauce since it was a bit dry, and the sauce was really tasty! The burger was also a bit overdone but the other ingredients really brought all the flavors together. Also just a side note, the server at the time was not properly wearing her facemask (not over her nose) which is always concerning whenever going out anywhere, especially during these times.
