This was only my second rental from this particular location, which appears to be a franchise. This rental was through Budget, which shares the same parent company as Avis. During my first rental from this location, I received a rude and accusatory phone call after returning the vehicle. An employee insisted I had transported a dog because a small amount of pet hair was found in the car. I had not traveled with a dog; the hair likely came from my clothing, luggage, or family, as we live in a home with dogs. I was told I was being "done a favor" by not being charged a substantial cleaning fee. The interaction was unprofessional and left a very poor impression. Over the Christmas holiday, I rented again due to a competitive AARP rate for an SUV and decided to give this location another opportunity. At pickup, I noticed multiple signs at the counter warning that customers could be charged significant fees if vehicles were returned with road grime, salt, dirt, or odors. The messaging strongly implied that customers are expected to wash and clean the vehicle before return. I have never encountered this policy at any other Avis, Budget, or rental car location, and I find it to be an unreasonable business practice. I returned the vehicle clean and was not charged any additional fees. However, when I submitted feedback, I initially received a generic response from Budget corporate, followed by a direct message from the location. Lisa Golias (title not provided) stated that I had "misinterpreted" the signage, asserting that one sign applied only to road salt and grime and the other solely to smoke or air freshener odors. While those issues are mentioned, the signs clearly go beyond those narrow interpretations. I found this response dismissive of a reasonable concern. I have included photos of the signage so others can decide for themselves whether they are comfortable renting from this location and potentially being charged extra fees for normal vehicle use. In my view, routine cleaning and washing are standard responsibilities of a rental car company, not the customer. I also encourage prospective renters to review the other complaints and reviews posted here and on additional platforms. I regret not doing so beforehand.

I rented a car for a couple weeks in January and returned it after-hours the night before it was due. A week later, I had not reeived my invoice and called to follow up. I was then told that I would be charged an additional $400 because I violated the smoking policy, which was NOT true. I don't smoke - I dont' care if others do of course - and I was obviously going to contest this bogus charge. After a lot of back and forth, and me driving to the facility to speak to someone in person, the associate finally let me know that they had mistakenly mixed up my rental with another return. To be fair, they did adjust my rental dates when I originally went to pick up my vehicle because I had mixed up the date by 1 day. @azfitfoodfun

When my mom said she could only get a Tahoe from the Enterprise near her, I whipped into the Enterprise near me (Peter's Creek) and I talked to the manager and another employee to secure a larger SUV for a trip we were taking. I booked this rental two months in advance and was assured it would be there and ready the morning I needed it. I was promised a Grand Wagoneer (or comparable for seating of 7 plus cargo space). It was there the morning I went to pick up, except it we couldn't have it because it needed an oil change. So the lady helping us tried to give us an SUV the size of my personal car. Which was seating of 7 with no cargo space and wasn't what we had reserved. Finally after them hunting around, they found a car for us "across the road." But it needed to be cleaned. In a hurry, the windows had junk all over them and the floor was nasty, but I cleaned it up in my driveway at home. This whole process took an hour and for the trouble, we were given 10% off. Fair enough. And we ended up with a Grand Wagoneer L which seated 8 plus plenty of cargo space. Upon return we were late. I knew we would be, and figured we'd be charged. No big deal. We knew what we were getting into. When we brought it back we made mention of the slick tires on the car. We went through a mess of rain on our trip, but thankfully we didn't end up in any danger. To even out the trouble of the tires, which we weren't expecting anything from-we just wanted them to be aware so the next person didn't end up in any danger, they only charged us for a half additional day rather than a complete day. That was super nice, and they didn't have to do that. I've always heard Enterprise prides themselves on customer service and I believe it! I will definitely use this Enterprise again and recommend them to others!

    Been to this location a couple of times now, and this being a bad week where I totaled my SUV one…read moreday and got my other car broken into the next, I was in need of a rental. My insurance made a reservation for the rental as I was on my way to the location, and they had it in their system by the time I arrived. It was a bit of a wait, as they were cleaning my rental and selection of rentals seem to be at a dearth these days. Because what isn't? I'm not sure what the grizzled veteran's issue is, but I didn't share that experience at all. I also don't see anything in his review that specifies what was so "racist." Seems like someone who just loves to whine for special treatment. Or perhaps he is the racist one... Anywho, the staff here have been friendly, helpful, and engaging, and they were also very apologetic about the wait. I didn't feel like the wait was too long, especially since we needed to pull a couple of switches because the first vehicle they had for me was only a 2-door and I have kids with car seats. They only had pickup trucks available, but that's fine with me as long as it qualified for my insurance daily cost limit. They had a second vehicle available with 4 doors, but upon inspection they noticed the temporary plate was ripped half off. I suppose they could've just swapped a plate, but they went ahead and switched to a third vehicle that was just finishing getting cleaned. After inspection and taking my deposit (via CREDIT CARD, Mr. Angry Vet!), I was back on the road and back towards putting my life back together! The vehicle, a Toyota Tacoma, wouldn't have been my first choice, but I will say the interior is very clean. So far, no complaints from this location. **Just an update to point out the other aforementioned review has been removed, and you have me to thank for that, slap-nutz!

Got my truck at 2 PM a giant Dodge Ram 2500. Gas guzzler. Ok, so far the day started to look up. The truck had an abnormal gas amount which was a little more than ¼ tank, say 5/16 , but way less than half. Even took photos. Did not really worry as I added enough gas to get the vehicle back and satisfy the 5/16 full tank. It was about 6/16 but not quite 1/2 a tank. Did think much of it until I dropped it off to a the reservationist present. I gave her the keys and asked three times, " Anything else I need to do?" Answer was no and third NO was clearly made. Ok I leave and receive my receipt via email AND, I get hit for 2 gallons of gas for $23.85!!! Ok no biggie, I'll call, and resolve this - NOPE! You get an automated bot that puts the onus on YOU! Yup you have to prove with receipts that you purchased gas. Well, I thought if I could get someone in the office I could clear this up. After five tries, one try the phone rang 15 times, the woman who received the truck finally answered and placed me on a "short hold" - 38 minutes!!!! Then I was disconnected. This is still not resolved and I'm stoping payment and as of now taking my future business to Budget/Avis or Enterprise. Twenty bucks is twenty bucks because I put over 15 bucks of gas in that behemoth so we're talking 35 plus dollars! Not a happy customer based on the return experience which exacerbated the extremely late delivery. Hertz No1 NO WAY.

He had to put in a time for the reservation, so he put 11:00 AM. However, it took me a while to get in touch with my ride, who had to do something first, so I got to Hertz at 3:00. We walked into the agency and there was one woman sitting at a desk in the back. She greeted us and said something else that I couldn't make out so I started back toward her and she said "I SAID Someone will be with you soon" (or something to that effect) I guess that didn't sink in/slow me down quickly enough because, seeming alarmed, she repeated SOMEONE WILL BE WITH YOU SOON. Not sure if I appear threatening or what but ok. A fellow was unloading stuff out of a car in the parking lot and after a good little while he came in and sat down at another desk and indicated he was available to help. However, he informed me that since I did not show up at 11:00 AM they had rented the car to someone else (To quote "Seinfeld," "You know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation!"). He added that they did not have any other cars available, I asked if any were due to be returned and he checked and said not until after 5:00 (they close at 5:00). I told him that my husband had specifically called to make sure there was a car on site. He said, "Sorry, I don't know who he talked to, I just got here a little while ago." Since I had out of town weekend plans this was obviously very frustrating and disappointing. Won't be back.

I called and spoke to a guy and stated that they will still bill me because the office was closed. They billed me for an extra day and the car was sitting @ there parking a lot. What a ripped off!!!! Find another car rental if you must. And the guy I talked to just keeps repeating himself!!! And note this, When I borrowed the car, they told me to return it anytime and will not bill me or will return my money but don't believe any word they say.

Enterprise is one of the few car rental services in the area that is not at an airport. The prices were also very reasonable and cheaper than picking a car up at GSO airport. Not surprising Enterprise was very busy two days before Christmas. The staff was friendly and tried to help everyone out as quickly as possible. I had rented one level up from their basic rental, I was upgraded to a Premium car which was a big plus for a 13 hour drive. The only downside was the car smelt horribly like cigarettes and the gas tank wasn't full at pickup. The car had a cloth interior and the smell just seemed to seep in. I mentioned it to the agent and she said people are not suppose to smoke, but some people just disregard the rules. Ugh, rude! I thought with some febreze and the windows down it would solve the problem. Well, it didn't! literally when I dropped the car off a week later it still reeked like cigarettes. Since the car was an upgrade I really wasn't about to complain. When they asked me at the end how the service was and if I would change anything the only thing I had to mention was the cigarette smell. The agents were friendly, knowledgable, and not pushy at all. The only problem is how small/stuffed their parking lot is. I literally almost scratched the car dropping it off because the spaces were so tight. Now, after traveling halfway up the Eastern Seaboard and back to scratch the car in the drop off parking lot, I would not have been a happy camper. But, all is well that ends well. I would definitely rent from them again.

    Disappointing and Dismissive Service at Avis, Winston Salem, NC, Hanes Mall Location, July 10, 2025…read more My experience on July 10, 2025 was disappointing and unnecessarily stressful. Due to being rear ended just before a planned trip, I needed to book a rental vehicle last minute. I understand that booking a car 24 hours in advance isn't ideal, but under the circumstances, a rental was my best and only option. I arrived early for my 8 AM reservation and was told the vehicle wasn't ready. I was advised to "walk over to McDonald's to wait." When I said I'd prefer to stay, I was told I'd "just have to listen to them talk." That interaction alone felt unprofessional, but I remained patient. After waiting nearly an hour, I was informed that Avis could not honor my SUV reservation, the very type of vehicle I was allowed to book online, because others had reserved the same vehicle class further in advance and they needed to fulfill those reservations first. Again, I stayed calm and asked about my options. That's when the tone shifted. The associate began chastising me for "poor planning," even after I explained my car had been in an accident. Her comments felt inappropriate and dismissive of a situation that was out of my control. When I calmly said her remarks felt disrespectful, she responded that I was "the exception" because most people are just poor planners. I explained again that I wasn't blaming her personally, but I was looking to her for support in problem solving. Still, no apology was offered. Yes, I could have taken a smaller vehicle, but unfortunately I needed an SUV. At that point, I decided to cancel the reservation altogether and was told I could not cancel in store because I had paid online. I was required to call customer service, which I did. I then went to Enterprise, where I was treated with kindness and care. They understood my situation and got me on the road quickly. Accidents happen, life happens, and customers deserve to be treated with empathy. I won't be booking with Avis again.

I get a call…read morefrom Avis at 8:30am on the 16th to tell me that they don't have the vehicle or similar vehicle that I booked and paid for. I asked if they could find something at a different location, they said no. I asked if they could refund my reservation, they said no I would have to call customer service. Customer service was a call center in India and was less helpful than the local agent. This will be the last time I do business with Avis!
