My friend and I were searching for a nearby pizza shop. With the help of Yelp we found rent Mel. This pizzeria and bakery focuses on creating meals made with organic and local ingredients. The restaurant is simple yet elegant. They were probably three or four patrons during our visit, so it was quiet. The waiters were nice and chatty. I ordered the pizza of the month for May. I can't recall all the ingredients. But I do remember I ordered this pizza because it had chorizo. Sadly, I did not like this pizza. The pizza had a very strong smell and it had a pungent taste. I think it was the chorizo. It was probably the spices it was marinated in. Anyways, the waiter was so sweet that he gave me another pizza. This time it was a plain ham and cheese pizza. And I thoroughly enjoyed it. My friend ordered the three Norwegian cheeses. I thought it was perfect. I'm unfamiliar with what cheeses they use, but it tasted great. Now Norwegian Cuisine is pretty out there. So they do serve pizza with reindeer meat and such. I did enjoy my experience. Peaceful environment and friendly service - pizzas were very tasty and beautifully made.

Said they were closed at 8pm even though hours show they were open 10pm and employee was rude.

Came here for the reindeer pizza, but found no reindeer pizza unfortunately -- must have been a monthly special sort of thing. Did however get a chicken pizza with apples and onions and a sausage pizza with feta-esque cheese (drawing a blank on the actual name of the cheese as a cheese plebeian) with mashed potatoes. Great pizza, very airy texture to the crust and base. Also enjoyed that the toppings had great synergy and were more unique and apparently very local ingredients. The service was really quick as well and very friendly! Our waiter (who was also very good looking so extra + there) was very nice and helped us through the menu when we didn't know what certain ingredients were. Definitely want to try the white sauce pizzas if I ever get a chance to go back-- however unlikely. But a great place to go for pizza! I went here for breakfast and it was so so good! It's a bakery as well as pizzeria, and they make their own delicious cakes and bread. I liked the breakfast menus, with good options - coffees and other beverages, natural OJ, different pastries and sandwiches, granola, etc - and reasonably priced. We particularly liked the dough both on the cakes and the bread. The place itself is lovely, cute decoration and comfortable furniture. The morning I was there it felt great to be able to sit by the big window and people watch while having breakfast. Last but not least, the staff was super nice and attentive. I'm sad I didn't have an opportunity to go back and try their pizzas, but I definitely recommend this spot for breakfast! P.S.: as a tourist in Oslo, the free Wi-fi was also a nice-to-have read more

Pizza is an interesting yardstick for national cuisine because everyone has their own riff on it. We liked Rent Mel because they start with great flour and a nice, crisp dough. The sausage and mushrooms were big and flavorful. It was very sauce heavy and light on cheese. Sauce was good cheese was great. Just a bit more, and a touch less sauce. Too slippery! read more

Lovely little spot with DELICIOUS pizza! It's connected to the CityBox hotel and they also have a street entrance. 10% discount on your meal if you're a guest at the hotel and show your room key. The menu had a lot of options and they let you make substitutes if you prefer to have no meat on your pizza. The pizzas were on the pricier side but they were a full serving and very good. The ambiance is great- candlelight and plants on the wall with good tunes (some light covers of popular hits). The waitress was very gracious and helpful to two American tourists who couldn't read the menu. We were not charged for tap water and we got 2 free dessert buns (this bread with tasty cream in the middle). Quaint restaurant and I'm glad we had supper there. read more

I went to Oslo for a job interview, and combined with the hotel I stayed at, this cozy restaurant was located. I had a very nice pizza in the evening when I arrived. It was exactly as I like it, thin and tasteful. In addition, they also had a wide assortment of beer. I can recommend it. Although, it's not very big. read more

Absolutely delicious! I was floored by the quality ingredients, flavorful pizzas, and that crust! Rent Mel also uses local ingredients and flavors and pulls it off well. My kids got the four cheese which was also topped off with a pear. The sweetness from the pear and saltiness from the cheese was a match made in heaven. I ordered the month pizza which was Norwegian dry cured ham, kantarell mushroom, and chives. Very good!!! I have a new favorite pizza joint! read more

We stopped by for coffee and breakfast. Unfortunately there was only one person working that morning. She was very efficient but overwhelmed working by herself given how busy this place was. The coffee was tasty but I didn't get my latte since the line was so long and I didn't want this poor lady to have to make it while others behind me waited. Our breakfast sandwich was good but not memorable. Maybe the rating would be higher if I go again and there is adequate staff. read more

Awesome pizza, I highly recommend the Pancetta pizza. The dough is perfectly thin and tasty. Great friendly service as well. We also tried their sandwiches the other day. I wasn't impressed. Very chewy dough. But I guess it was rather late to get a sandwich, maybe they're better in the mornings. read more

Dear god, can we talk about this place. I went based solely on others' reviews, and expected better-than-average pizza. I did NOT expect an entire experience. The chef himself greeted me at my table, walked me through the menu, and had no problem with modest change requests. He nodded his approval, headed behind the counter (to stand in front of the pigs on their farm, which they use for meat and which seem to be in a great living situation), and started hand-tossing crust. Pizza came out incredibly fast, and was delicious. I didn't realize everything is locally and organically sourced, didn't realize that the animals are ethically treated, didn't realize the atmosphere would be the absolute epitome of hygge. I just had a little cinnamon bun here on the way to a museum, but it was very tasty and reasonably priced. Also I appreciated that when I asked for water they handed me a huge bottle for free. The croissant part of the chocolate croissants here are excellent, though the chocolate is a bit darker/bitterer than I like. The pizza is very good, with well balanced flavors and a nice crust, and smells amazing while you wait for it. They are a bit expensive for the size, but that's Oslo (and organic pizzas wherever you go, honestly...). I've always had everything takeout (10kr cheaper!) but it has great seating too if you're not on the go. read more
