It was nice and fun. I didnt get to see it all but would love to go back again. You can rent bikes and binoculars there.

This is a terrific place to visit to see nature. I would suggest going anytime but the middle of summer like we did. The heat at times is unbearable. There is much to see here and a lot of diversity. I'm sure it will be so much better in cooler weather so we will be sure to come back. If you like birds there should be many here during migration and when the Resacas are full of water. When we were there they were all dry or almost dry. In spite of the weather we did see quite a few birds and some of the rarer ones that come up from Mexico. There are also hundreds of Butterflies that you see everywhere you look. They have some great trails to walk and you can also rent bikes to ride on them. There is a tram that takes you around the park. It's about a 3 mile loop and costs $4. The driver is very knowledgeable about the area and will give you details about the flora and fauna all around. There is a very well stocked and nice gift shop inside and very clean restrooms.

In the summer, you can opt for a tram ride, wear a hat and bring plenty of water.

We were received right away by the all too friendly staff and volunteers at the Beautiful Historic Rabb Plantation House. It's such a marvel of how well this 1892 Plantation Home has been restored and preserved. Walking through those doors you truly step back into time. The location: right on the most Southern Point in all the country. Sabal Palm Sanctuary literally lies against the southernmost point of the US-Mexico Border, along the Rio Grande. It was established to preserve one of the last vestige of original Sabal Palm forest in the U.S. In this endeavor, over the years, it now showcases what the land of this sub-tropical area would look like as if untouched by the hands of man and left to mother natures own devices. The result is ASTOUNDING!!! This Sub-Tropical Forest now attracts... hundreds of bird species which makes this a not-to-be-missed destination. Sabal Palms Sanctuary is by far one of the country's premiere birding hot-spot with hundreds of species that migrate through this region every year. "The Sanctuary sits on a 527-acre tract of land on the Rio Grande in Brownsville, Texas and is one of the most uniquely biodiverse habitats in the country, containing one of the last vestige of original Sabal Palm forest in the U.S. The Sanctuary provides breeding habitat for many endangered or high-priority birds and is a critical source of shelter and food for migrating and wintering species." --SabalPalmSanctuary.org
