The location of Residence Opera is in one of the best streets of Bologna, Stada Maggiore, only 10 minute walk to the towers and 12 mins to Piazza Maggiore. There is a pharmacy just around the corner, 3 grocery stores nearby (Coop, PAM, Carrefour) and plenty of coffee shops (Pasticceria Pistone, 5 mins, our favorite coffee and pastry place) and gelaterias (Vechia Stella, 7 mins) close by. You have access to the best that Bologna offers, in a quiet and safe location. Letizia in the reception desk was always friendly, smiling and willing to help with any request. There is free great wifi available 24/7 and there is also a free laundry room available to the residents. Opera Residence has everything you need for a pleasant stay in Bologna. Thank you Letizia and Francesca for everything!

It is located in a quiet part of the city but is within an easy walking distance from the main square, Piazza Maggiore. While I don't think it's in a bad neighborhood, the front gate is always locked and the hallway doors are also lock around the clock. The decor is eclectic (or even funky). See my photos. You will be the judge. It's an old building but is clean and well maintained. Our room was clean and spacious. Lots of storing space and a high ceiling. The AC worked great, too. The breakfast was one of the highlights. Both the quality and the selection are excellent. The photos speak for themselves. If I go back to Bologna, I will definitely stay here. I highly recommend Casa Bertagni to anyone! ***************************** If you found something useful in my review, please hit "useful" to let me know. My wife and I usually stay in apartments utilizing multiple services for our reservations. Casa Bertagni showed me what I was missing. Our room was large, with an amazingly comfortable bed, and easy to regulate heat/AC. The bathroom had a double head rain shower and the nicest, thick towels. Viscount Guido, an architect by trade and nature, is Philippe Starck, Kelly Wearstler, Marcel Wanders, Timothy Corrigan etc. wrapped up in one package, His designs at Casa Bertagni are whimsical and beautiful. There was so much to look at, and travelers feel enveloped in luxury. The staff is kind, friendly, warm and ridiculously accommodating. This has to be the very best place to stay in Bologna. I would like to clone Casa Bertagni.

Such a fun day exploring the foods of Bologna! We actually got to see how the whole processing of making Parmigiano Reggiano, from start to finish, which was very enlightening. I have to say their Ricotta cheese is the best I have tasted from all over the world. Next we drove to a family owned DOP balsamic vinegar vineyard where we were able to see the process of making balsamic vinegar. Did you know it takes years and years to make just a small amount of vinegar. Very fascinating to hear and to taste. We got to compare balsamic venegar that isn't DOP and some that is. We were also able to taste the 25 year old, and 50 year old vinegar. This is tightly guarded as it is quite an arduous process, and very, very, time consuming just to get a few bottles out of the 25 and 50+ vinegar. Let's just say it's yummy. Make sure you buy a bottle while you are there. I didn't, and I could kick myself as it's more expensive is the USA from the same vineyard. Then it was off to the place where the prosciutto di Modena is made. That was interesting as well all these ham hocks hanging up, and the process of how the most tasty prosciutto is made. Final stop was to have lunch at a cantina on a sprawling estate. Great views. Did I say FOOD, lots, and lots of Italian food and wine. Very tasty and a good variety of Italian dishes. Then off to our hotel we go. We had our driver drop us off closer to city center so that we could enjoy the city before heading back to our hotel since this was or last night in Italy. She was very happy to oblige us. Such a fun day. I highly recommend this tour.

The immediate surroundings aren't the most scenic, but the location worked well for us--it was an easy walk both to the train and to the downtown area where most of the shops and restaurants are located. There's also a Lidl nearby, which was convenient for picking up affordable and healthy breakfast items since breakfast wasn't included (even for Titanium members--they only offer a discount). The room was comfortable and did its job. We appreciated the large bed, the bath tub, and the small gym, which even had a balcony so you could cool off outside after a workout. One downside was the lobby, which was extremely hot and uncomfortable throughout our stay. Check-in wasn't the smoothest either--it seemed like the staff might have been training, as there were three people at the desk chatting around a computer and no one acknowledged us for several minutes. That said, the service improved after that point, and the staff was helpful and friendly for the rest of our stay. If you're looking for a reasonably priced place within walking distance of the city center and train station, this could be a good fit--just don't expect luxury or too many perks.

Our room had a door that opened so we were cool at night. We were there in early May and it was already quite warm for us Canadians. Our American friend, also staying in the hotel, found his room quite hot and it didn't have air con. He opened a window at night and was eaten by bugs. Our other friends were initially given a room without windows. They complained so they were handed a handful of keys and were told to go check out the rooms and chose one. They found the room comfortable but one night a neighbouring apartment had a party and they were up late too. That's Italy. Thinks are close and " cosy". Pros- A generally quiet neighbourhood area with great bars. Near great restaurants. Near enough to the train station, Bologna Centrale, to walk to the station. Price seemed reasonable based on other options. There were some quirks: the AC seemed to struggle mightily on a day topping 90 (I'd have some concerns for next week when it's forecast over 100); the mini fridge seemed barely chilled when set all the way cold; and our room only had one small window, set way in a corner. Location is ok. Very convenient for the train station and especially the airport train. And a pleasant walk mostly down the major street to get to the main sights.
