But of course, we also enjoyed letting the kids run outside as we sat out on the deck, watching sunset on the dock, playing ping pong, laying in the hammock, swinging on the swings, etc.. The owners are some of the kindest, most welcoming people we've met. They went above and beyond to host our family. You can tell they really care about this campground, and hearing about all the plans they have to make it even better has us excited to come back!! I cannot recommend this place enough. The owners were super nice and helpful... they truly were invested in ensuring all guests enjoyed their accommodations while at their retreat. Unplug from wifi (though they have it available if you need it!) and enjoy one another's company surrounded by nature.... complete with alligator sightings at Lake Pierce and hoots-a-plenty from the resident night owl whom hung out at the basketball hoop nightly during our stay. The cabins were beautifully decorated and glamp level comfy. The kids enjoyed the "game room" and especially loved the fishing at the pond- loads of catch and releases in a day! They were fascinated with being able to find the eel as it randomly popped up to say hello. The hotel was built two years before Lake Wales most iconic landmark, Bok Tower was built. At the time it was built the 10 story hotel was the crown jewel of Lake Wales. It is one of only a few remaining skyscrapers from the 1920's. The first owners of the hotel were Florida governor Martin and silent movie star Thomas Meighan who owned the hotel along with fellow movie stars Gloria Swanson, Mary Pickford, and Clara Bow and Hollywood attorney Nathan Burkan and Hollywood producer Victor Heerman. The hotel was built for $500,000 and it was financed by selling stock in the enterprise. The hotel architect was Fred Bishop and D.J. Phipps. It was designed in a Masonary Vernacular style with elements of Mediterranean Revival. It is an example of 3 part block with a base, shaft, and a cap. You can see the divide on the building. It was a style that was popular throughout the 1920's. The hotel was constructed of steel reinforced poured concrete in a post-and-beam method without bearing walls. The sturdy construction allowed the building to survive a hurricane in 2004 with only minor damage. The interior of the hotel was ornately decorated with Palladium style windows and doorways, Italian made ceilings, columns, a drinking fountain by Ernest A. Batchelder, marble floors by the Georgia Marble Company, mosaic tile floors, and a wrought iron balustrade. The building had a central mezzanine and shopping arcades. In 1972 the hotel was purchased by Anderson Sun State and renamed the Groveland Motor Inn. The hotel was renovated to hosts visitors interested in the Green Swamp land sectioned off for development. There was interest in the land because of its proximity to Disney World but when the state declared the land a critical area of concern and prohibited development the company dissolved and auctioned the hotel off in 1974. In 1978 the hotel was signed over to the nationally known religious music and drama group, the Agape Players. The made improvements and added a restaurant and ice cream parlor. They added a teaching facility and operated a Christian hotel on the upper floors. They sold the hotel when they disbanded in 1985. In the 1980's New Yorker Victor Khubani owned the hotel and changed its name to Hotel Grand. The hotel was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 31, 1990. He was not able to make the code enforcement repairs necessary regarding the sprinkler system and elevator. In 1995 the hotel was sold at auction. Restoration was started but never completed. By 2008 the city of Lake Wales owned the hotel. It had been standing empty for the past three decades, destroyed by vagrants and vandals and attempts to modernize it. The hotel had acquired the nickname the Green Monster due to its garish color from years of neglect. The city contacted Ron Brown, President of Dixie WalesBilt LLC. To restore it. Brown, a former contractor promised to restore the hotel to its former glory. The city worked out a deal with Brown where they would sell him the building for $10 if he painted the building, gave $80,000 to the city, and increased the market value of the building to 1.6 million dollars in 16 months time. In June 2011 Brown assured the city he would be ready to open the north side ground floor for retail in the fall. Based on that the city gave him the hotel but fall came and went and it never opened. In 2014 community leaders came together to help Brown. Reid Hardman worked with Brown to restore the exterior of the building. The exterior was painted and the building details and window frames were restored. Since then the project has stalled. The city does not feel that Brown is quickly enough to finish the project. The city has been punishing Brown by not renewing his building permits. Brown blames the city for impeding his work but he has not secured funding for the next level of the project estimated to cost 10 million dollars. At the this point the city would like to find someone else to take over the building although Ron Brown wants to finish and open the hotel. The city and the owner are at an impasse on how to move forward. Lake Wales has the ability to reclaim the hotel through code enforcement liens and fines. As you can imagine there are quite a few cool ghost stories associated with this old hotel, people who checked but who never really checked out. Will Ron Brown ultimately get the job done? Only time will tell. This building has so much history that it would be a shame not to see this beautiful hotel restored.

Legoland Beach Cottages: A Disappointing Experience…read more First and foremost, I would never consider staying at the beach cottages again. Upon arrival, you don't enter a lobby to be greeted and checked in by a friendly staff member. Instead, you pull up to the guard gate, and a person takes your identification, credit card, then hands you keys, and a map. Since another car is waiting behind you, it's challenging to get any questions answered. To reach the park, you have two options: take their shuttle, which operates every 15 minutes, or drive yourself, which provides free parking. However, the walk to the park entrance is still quite long. The housekeeping was satisfactory during the first few days. However, on the third day, when our baby was having his midday nap, they arrived at the door. I requested that she bring me some fresh towels. while she was inside, Unfortunately, she was on a speakerphone, talking loudly in a different language after we had informed her that the baby was sleeping. On the day we checked out, we were busy taking care of our toddler and packing up. We missed picking up a pair of sandals and his Lola blanket. We immediately contacted the resort and sent a link to fill out a missing items request. We waited a few days, but when I called to speak to a supervisor, they informed me that they didn't have the items and would check and call me back in two days. As of now, I haven't received a call back, and they haven't found the items. I'm puzzled as to how they could miss a pair of sandals and a very nice blanket when they clean a room. While we may consider returning to Legoland and giving it another chance, we will definitely stay at either the Legoland hotel or the pirate hotel in the future.

We found a giant spider on the wall. I loveeeeeee the concept of the Lego house beach retreat. I love the pool area, I love the breakfast they provided. I love that there is a playground outside. I think house keeping should do a better job. On top of all that the floors were sticky and our room smelled like mildew. Not a fan. Wouldn't recommend staying here.

They have a nice fire pit area. This location also offers a Starbucks. I don't like that there is no free coffee other than what is in your room. They also have a full bar area and bistro for dining and drinks which is very nice. They also offer a small market with snacks and basic travel necessities. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. I love that the rooms have a refrigerator and a microwave. Legoland is right across the street so it's definitely convenient if you're visiting the park. Restaurants and limited shopping options are nearby such as TJMaxx. Overall I feel this property is a great value and offers comfortable accommodations so I will continue to return.

I would not rent or buy anything at The Harbor waterfront resort . we bought a place on the water…read morein back of the park we own our property but we pay water garage and sewer to the park . right after we moved in we had sewer problems spoke to the park manager and they said wasnt there problem paid 2 plumbers to come and got something in writing it had to be clogged at the road finally after contracting the owner they sent someone out turns out the sewer pipe was old cracked and clogged under the road. They chose to fix it their self they did not send out a company or call about any underground electrical lines or anything took them two days to fix but in the meantime when they were digging up the sewer line they cut my electrical line in half said they fixed and at the time we still had power . well about a month later we lose power to half our mobile home I called Duke energy which is our electrical company they tell us it is where they cut the line and they need to be responsible for fixing it so they send a person back out that did the plumbing which is a worker which he was very nice but he says it is fixed up to code and that is not our problem . We paid for an electrical company to come out who is licensed got it in writing that the electrical line going under the ground which was cut is the problem and needs to be replaced and they do not want to take responsibility they are the ones who cut it and this is became ridiculous they will not take responsibility for anything I would not rent or buy anything in this community

Ever wonder where the quintessential southern campsites are located, look no further than Camp Mack…read more- this is where the piney woods meets up with the Florida swampland. You ain't never experienced old Florida charm until you been here, the land of airboats and alligators, a place where the mosquitoes swarm at dusk and the screeching wildlife will wake you before dawn. Ahhh this is the life I love, a place where the internet struggles to connect you with the real world, the only agenda here is rest and relaxation, a place where chores are something you'll look forward to, most consist of filling the yeti with ice and can beer and visiting your neighbors on your golf cart or 4 x 4 ranger. There are no strangers here it seems everybody shares the same mindset. I spent five days here and I didn't want to leave when it came time to break camp. This place is known for its fishing and believe me they are plentiful, it's a simple recipe - catch / clean / fry. I like beer but I'm not a beer drinker I prefer vodka so I stocked up before arriving, finding beer is easy if you like the hard stuff it's a trip to town I'm guessing it at least thirty miles round trip and leaving the camp will break the vibe and there's no reason to do that if you prepare. There are no typical days here every is different but everyday is the same in the sense that you own one hundred percent of your time while you're here, it's a place you can turn your phone off and disconnect for awhile and forget anything else exist - I know I don't do that enough but I do know this is the kind of life we should be addicted too. Okay okay I'll review the place instead of the lifestyle that seems to be the norm here. Things to do: cross the street and you're in a beautiful State Park, find a shady spot down at the boat ramp and watch one of the best shows on earth there seems to be an endless number of unique water crafts being launch or being pulled from the water (airboats, bass boats, skiffs, pontoon boats, jon-boats, etc) I say with the utmost respect this place is like the redneck yacht club where everyone seems to have a buzz e.g people ride in the boats while it's still on the trailer going down the road - yes they are creeping along but it's still fricking awesome. I recommend you leave any pretentious behavior at home and pay attention to the dress code it's very easy to look out of place here - acceptable clothing includes - anything camouflage, women should have a few pairs of short shorts and a ragged pair of cowboy boots and any kind of top you can tie in the front, men shirts are optional but a stained tank top and a pair of Tevas gets you status. After the sunsets fire pit sitting beer drinking attire rules can I get a little yeehaw repeat day two and day three and so on and so on. Other highlights include a visit to the outpost store lots of beer and snacks, a indoor fish cleaning area and a bait shop, a outdoor projection screen, community fire pit, you can rent bicycles and pontoon boats or take a swamp tour on an airboat. They occasionally have live music which I hear is pretty amazing with an outdoor food court and beer for sale. The campsites are large and plentiful with full hookups with concrete or paver pads, they offer up to 50 amps, water and sewer all included unless you're planning on staying awhile then you pay for utilities. There are a few bars and restaurants, maybe restaurants is a stretch but you can buy food on property. There's a lodge onsite if you don't have a camper and still want to experience this unique venue. Theres lots more I don't think it's possible to take it all in at least not in the five days I spent here - I believe having a good cup of hot coffee at sunrise sitting in your favorite chair is nirvana, having a cocktail at sunset in the same chair by the fire pit will rejuvenate you, there's nothing wrong with freeing your soul once in awhile...

The wifi worked great, the a/c was nice and cold, and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast had a lot of delicious choices, including a waffle-making section. They had complimentary USA Today newspapers, and they had ice-cream novelties for sale for $2 each if you wanted a midnight snack! We are grateful for everything Rhett and the staff did for us to make our stay wonderful! We will definitely stay here again on our next visit.

In the winter some units have a combination heater/ AC unit. My unit only has AC, which I rarely use. I am visiting from up North, so I had sleeping bags with me, to keep me warm as I have no heat in my room.

A report has been made to the health control for motels on your outbreak of bed bugs that photos…read morehave been shown inside the maintenance man's room and photos from your cleaning ladies room where beds are infested with bed bugs also a report has also been made on all the drugs being built out of your Motel they will be doing an investigation on all rooms your Motel is nasty as can be and needs to be shut down why you allow drugs to be sold from your place of business and have mattresses burned besides your Motel that were video recorded being burnt with bed bugs fleeing from the mattress blankets have been burnt because of bed bugs in your laundry room and we have good word from from a current resident that has been in and out of your Motel recently with complaints of the bed bugs and their bites so we have filed an official Complaint to have your Motel shut down until you can clean the place up
