I have loved this restaurant since it opened. It is a nice five minute walk from my flat and on nights when I want a good homecooked meal, it hits the spot. I am a regular dinner customer so I will start with that. If dinner was the only criteria on which I judge this restaurant they would receive five stars. The food is perfect. It is the equivalent of Southern soul food for me. The portions are generous with a great ala carte menu of side dishes. I am a huge fan of the duck, occasionally pairing it with beets and other times with a cucumber salad (miseria). The staff during the dinner shift is a great compliment to a wonderful meal. They are informative, fun, but not intrusive.
Alas, I have forever tarnished the vision I had of perfection by venturing to them for breakfast. The staff, all 2 of them, were more like furniture that wait staff. In a nearly empty restaurant I waited 6 minutes for a menu. The reason for the this wait you might ask? Both servers were needed to clear the one dirty table after a few cups of coffee. But where waitstaff fails, the food usually makes up for it. I was expecting something simple and delicious, much like dinner service. What I got was a 30 minute wait for an order of pancakes and a croissant. The pankcakes were bland, greasy, and undercooked as if the had been dropped into a vat of oil that was far to hot. Breakfast gets a score of one star from me. The coffee was decent but that was it.
Do yourself a favor and pretend they don't even serve breakfast.
Absolutely a must for dinner. read more
