Seafood soup (large)

you are a seafood lover with knowledge of great lobster in Canada, Maine and Central America- you will love it!! I might write a poem about this experience. We were told by numerous locals to go here. I'm very picky when I eat and I know that. After yet another person mentioned it we tried to book. There was no space on the website but decided to go anyway. Thankfully, we got in. Right away I saw there were wine pairings and I'd read the reviews and was fairly certain I would want the herring because Im in Sweden so of course I wanted herring. I also saw the wee lobsters on the menu that caught my eye. Reviews said the soup was tremendous so I decided to have it. Absolutely incredible all round. The wine, the appetizers, the dinner was all absolutely highest quality. We've eaten at a lot of beautiful places and if a city is known for its fish, I'm partaking. This was hands down the best meal I have ever had in my life. Everything was so good. We were a quick dinner group so we didnt hang around for full service and wind beyond eating and heading out. It was delicious,

Great choice for seafood in Haga! The indoor restaurant is quite small, but there is a large and cozy backyard behind. I highly recommend making a reservation if you can, as we only barely slipped in on a weekend night. I tried the seafood soup, which was loaded with fresh fish, mussels, and shrimp. The broth was creamy without being too rich, and it came with amazing garlic bread on the side. They have a large wine list, but I had an elderflower spritz, which wasn't too sweet. Service was great, and the whole meal was very reasonably priced for such fresh seafood!

I only travel to Gothenburg once a year but I always make a point to eat at Sjöbaren. The food is fresh, cooked perfectly and the atmosphere and service make me feel welcome! The muscles are to die for and please please please eat the Fishgratang! You're mouth will thank you!

Such a great place for lunch! We were able to be seated right away at 1:30pm and the lunch menu has a good variety of seafood dishes. The prices are very good and the portions are quite generous. Lunch also comes with a bread and salad bar. Food was delicious, great service, and cute spot in the Haga District! Highly recommend!

Loved this restaurant! The ambience is quaint and so comfortable, the menu is enticing. Not overly complicated, which we liked. Wine list was the same. Something for everyone without being overbearing. Wait staff was polite, smiling and very helpful. And the prices were reasonable. We opted not to have appetizers, which was the right thing to do as the portions for dinner were plentiful. I had the seafood gratin and my bride had the cod fish with Swedish caviar. Both dishes were excellent but the cod fish with parsnip and Swedish caviar (Bleakfish Roe) was simply outstanding! For desert, we ordered two handmade truffles. Excellent. We will absolutely go back. Recommended to us by the staff at Hotel Riverton

4 Stars for a cozy restaurant and tasty lunch. While the service may be average, the real stars here are the food! We had the langoustines & fish au gratin and both were phenomenal. This spot got very busy around 3:00p. They take reservations, but they aren't necessary (we were seated right away without one). If you're in the Haga area and looking for a filling lunch, stop in!

Got here and was directed to the back yard. It is a cute cozy back yard with a cute little bar. The place apparently means sea bar because they are really known for their seafood. Some of the items have been on the menu for 15 years ( like the salmon). Menu is concise and makes decision making pretty easy. We decided to order the soup, the cod gratin and the smoked salmon and share everything. Swedish bread and butter was a nice way to start lunch. All the dishes were super rich and buttery, tasted good, but a little bit overwhelming for me. The soup was really good, had chunks of fish and shrimp in it, had a lot of dill which gave it an amazing aroma; again a little bit too buttery for me. The cod gratin was also really good, was cooked in wine. The smoked salmon was served with potatoes which were served in dill and a kind of buttery, hollandaise-like sauce. Again, everything was really good, just a little bit too rich for me.

We ran into this restaurant because it started to rain. It was so good that we ate there again the next day. Do yourself a favor and eat the fish soup as a starter. We had the daily offer two days in a row and it was delicious.

Garlic crawfish was excellent. We all four of us loved it. Seafood platter was exciting presentation. It was a little saltier side for our pallets, but oyster, shrimp, crawfish, mussel, were pretty good as well. Waitresses were nice and friendly. Nice seafood restaurant in nice Haga area.

I don't like it much. The seafood soup I ordered is deadly salted. Even I eat more salted than average people. But tHis is too much salt!

Nice upscale restaurant serving local fresh seafood…read more Offers coat check upon arrival. Walking distance to most of the downtown hotels. Started with some entrees for apps - cod balls and mussels. Cod balls were meaty and tasty. The mussels were in a light white sauce. For my main, went with the buffet of seafood. The great part of this is that they bring you refills. Smoked shrimp, shrimp, crab claws and langostines (think giant crawfish or baby lobster). I didn't care for the smoked shrimp (too Smokey for me) and the regular shrimp were a little on the small side for the effort of taking off the shell. The langostine tails were full of flavor, claws were hard to get at. Highlight of the meal was the local crab claws. Reminded me of stone crab, but not a sweet. For dinner had the creams brûlée with rum and violet ice cream instead of the sorbet. The rum vanilla was tasty, the violet was too strong for me. Great restaurant, great service, will return on my next trip.

The atmosphere is undoubtedly with its cozy Swedish design charms: sophisticated, delicate details, modern, and old world. I don't know how else to describe it. The host graciously ordered for us and recommended the blini with löj caviar as the starter. It's a perfect bite of creaminess (from blini) and crispness of the löj caviar mixed with the sour cream, chives, shallots, and dill. Next came the seafood platter with lobsters, crawfishes, mussels, and Swedish shrimps. Everything on the plate were cooked simple and the way it is suppose to taste, fresh and sweet. For the main course turbot with fresh beets and soft poached egg over fresh wasabi roots were divine (as if I had any more stomach space)!! The turbot was surprisingly thick and meaty, fresh beets had an unforgettable crisp clean finish, and when I was expecting the running yolk of a poach egg to spread into the wasabi root, the yolk instead was creamy soft that together with the fresh wasabi roots were perfectly harmonized. Just when I thought the meal was over, came more Swedish (and European) hospitality to finish the meal with cheese plate, coffee or tea. I wish I knew more about cheese to tell you the experience. The meal was so wonderful that I have to write about it; however, before I end, I must tell you about the drinking culture too :) The evening started with a glass of Champagne and another. With the starter, we toasted to glass of schnapps with the blini and löj caviar. Move to a bottle of Bourgogne Chardonnay (oaky flavor...tres interesting) since we were eating the turbot. Later came 3 more glasses of wine to pair with cheese plate, and we finished with Berta grappa and tea but not before bottomless Champagne throughout the meal. Toast to the host , this was an unforgettable meal!!

This was our last meal in Gothenberg on our trip this spring and it was perfect. We started our meal with a shrimp salad with toast which was well seasoned and wasn't too creamy. My boyfriend ordered the seafood au gratin which had mussels, shrimp and fish. There was a good amount of veggie on it as well. My meatballs were luscious. The lingonberry sauce was the perfect tart addition to the creamy dish. This is what they're talking about when they're talking about Swedish meatballs! The Cream of Mushroom soup was good, even though it didn't have a very strong mushroom flavor. My main dish was cod, which was described as lightly salted. I understand that "lightly salted" has no definition, and everyone's perception of saltiness differs - but for me, while the cod was perfectly cooked, it was also very, very salted, as well as most of the elements of the dish, with the exception of few pieces of potatoes. I guess someone simple went heavy-handed finishing the dish. Good, prompt and friendly service.

I walked around first to check the place out, a very cool interior, and several places to eat. I didn't realize it at first, but there is more than one restaurant. I went to the front host stand and told the host that it was one for dinner. He greeted me, gave me a menu, and then we walked to one of the seafood bars and I sat down. The name was Ekmans Almost immediately, the man behind the bar came to me and asked me for my drink order. We discussed the different beers available, I settled on a local draft and then perused the menu. As I walked in, I spied another diner having a seafood platter, which looked great. I asked my server about it, and he highly recommended it, so I ordered it. He brought me a tasty cold beer, and shortly thereafter, my seafood platter arrived, and it was perfect- a bunch of tasty small shrimp, mussels, salad, crackers, aged cheese, and 3 huge Langoustines! It was delicious, I had a second beer and enjoed my meal and conversation with the barman very much. There are several restaurants here, as well as a seafood market during the day. I would definitely come back here on my next visit- highly recommended!

Arrived around 1:30 and there were a couple of parties waiting on the steps for a table. The greeter asked me if I wanted a drink while I waited-Tried the draft beer (local Pilsner-can't remember the name) and it was excellent. About 20 minutes later a spot opened up at the bar. I wanted to try the soup but the portion is enough as a meal alone so I asked if I could have a 1/2 portion. One of the servers offered a shot of the soup instead and I happily accepted. It was delightful-creamy, rich, salty with a variety of seafood. A full serving would have definitely been enough for lunch. For lunch, decided to go with the warm Shrimp Sandwich Gratin (the guy on my right really enjoyed it). The shrimp mixture is really creamy with mayo & heavy and would definitely go with the warm vs cold and the Au Gratin potato was excellent!
