My mates and I traveled from Köln to Hannover last week and we had accumulated some laundry to do…read more So I was stunned when I found the website for this place which said that not only did it have washing and drying machines, but a restaurant and full bar! We took a cab from our hotel to this place and were pleasantly surprised. The staff and other customers were nice enough to explain to us how to work the machines. So we put our first loads into the washing machines, sat down nearby so we would know when the laundry finished, and ordered some drinks and lunch. The special that day was a casserole with potatoes, ground beef, cabbage, and carrots that satisfied my appetite. The only complaints I have are about the number of machines. Two of the washing machines were down and two of the four available dryers. So it was competitive between customers to claim a machine. Luckily, the dryers are industrial strength and could handle the combined weight of three persons' worth of laundry, so we did not need two. Also, I think one of the washing machines I used malfunctioned, because at the end of the cycle, the clothes were still dripping wet. I had to wring them out into a laundry basket before putting them into the dryer. In short, this is a quirky, fun place where you can get something to eat, enjoy a drink, and get your laundry done all under one roof.

The brunch selection is pretty diverse, with multiple pancakes, omelets, smoothies, juices, and egg benedicts. I had the Benedict Royale, and it came with a side salad, two brioche bread, slices of smoked salmon, and two poached eggs. The breakfast tasted delicious, and the ingredients were very fresh. As for the service, it was fast and the staff was very friendly. The ambiance was lively and intimate. Our bill of 4 came to $82 euros, which was very reasonable for the quality and service. Upon my entry, I was helped by a super accommodating staff member who helped translate the menu for me so I could order exactly what I wanted. The service made the experience of this cafe pleasant. The cafe itself was also welcoming and cozy - warm, well lit, spacious. The food I ordered was delicious. Open face sandwiches with delicious European spreads and ham, plus a generous European latte. Otherwise, the plating, taste, texture are all excellent and on par of other Michelin restaurants. Given the price of the prix fixe menu and the ambient atmosphere, I consider this restaurant a pretty good choice. The waitress who took my order did soeak English, but then every dish was only introduced in German. There wasn't any wine menu. You just pick one of the house wine selections, which is a big upset for foreign wine lovers from US. But overall, I recommend this restaurant to tourists to Hannover.

Despite its working man's prices and an interior looking like a down-at-heel Studentenkneipe this is a feinschmeker (gourmet) restaurant and must be treated as such. You need to reserve by telephone at least several days in advance, and humbly offer them an appealing number of diners (ideally either four or six: they have only 25 places at tables and four stools at the bar and must be ruthless about maximizing their yield: do not even think of asking for a table for one; they will simply refuse (reserve--and you do still need to reserve--a seat at the bar). Persons wandering in without a reservation hoping for a table--and especially tourists without German--are treated with fine forthright traditional north-German rudeness: "Nein! Nein! Weg! Weg!" (Sometimes in chorus.)
