I've been staying at a hotel at Atoll Beach for the past 2 weeks on business, and thus, I have…read moreeaten at almost every restaurant along the water. However Aigue Marine was the first one that made me want to write a review. Let me first start off by saying that all of the restaurants along the water here are mediocre at best. That disclaimer out of the way, here is what I thought of Aigue Marine.
As soon as I sat down, I was brought a basket of raw vegetables that tasted like they were grown very locally, unfortunately the bread that I was served with the veggies was at least a day old. Very stale. Which is surprising because EVERYWHERE I've been so far in Nice, the bread has been fantastic, even the company cafeteria I eat at for lunch.
As a main course, I ordered some seafood sampler thing. Salmon, swordfish, one shrimp, smoked-salmon risotto, and cod. All terribly overcooked and bland. I couldn't tell the salmon from the cod. I'm a proponent of plain fish, because I like to taste the fish as opposed to seasonings, but this was just awful. The risotto was, by far, the best thing on the plate, but I like my risotto a little al dente, and this was mostly mush.
The whole reason I chose this restaurant was because I've been in France for 11 days now, and I have yet to have creme burlee, and Aigue Marine had it on their menu. Totally worth it. The creme burlee was some of the best I've had. There was a seemingly infinite amount of little black specks of vanilla beans. The burlee was the perfect thickness and burntness (which is a real word).
Overall, Aigue Marine has decent selection, and a reasonably priced menu for the area, but the seafood and bread were bad enough that I would avoid this place if I find myself back here. While the desert was fantastic, this is France; desert is, and should be, fantastic everywhere.
