This made for a nice and relaxing setting for dinner, which rounded my 2.5 star review up to 3 stars rather than down. Dinner itself was pleasant. The Gazpacho was very good and served in generous portions. Main course choices consisted largely of grilled meats and fishes, with a few more inspiring items (the duck breast with cherry reduction being one of them). Everything was cooked simply but well and served with garnishes of large grilled green peppers (like a huge padron pepper) and tasty roasted potatoes. There was no standout feature of the menu or the food itself but other than lacking inspiration, we had no complaints and it made for a nice casual evening meal in Besalú. The desert menu included all the usual suspects (flan, crema catalana, etc.) but the deserts themselves were a bit sub-par (the crema catalana, for example, was quite soupy and clearly had aspirations higher than its station in life). If you're looking for an unfussy casual meal in a nice setting then this might be your spot. Otherwise, for a slightly more upmarket meal in Besalú with an equally nice setting and level of relaxation, try Pont Vell (closed the night we went).

The front desk lady was nice and the person who brought us to the table. Although the reason that I'm giving it two stars is because we were sitting outside and this was about 3 PM, and there were just an incredible amount of flies. And my boyfriend got up to ask if we can change seats because we thought it was where we were sitting outside and we changed to a different table and it was still the same. There were so many flies!!! It felt like we were on a farm. And then my boyfriend got up and asked again if we could move inside this time and the person said, which I think it was a bus boy and not a server, he said that he didn't know if we could move inside and we'd have to go ask and then he kind of looked at me didn't say anything. Just kind of acted like I was being dramatic or something. I don't know. It felt like that sort of vibe. Anyway, we did end up moving inside, but I remember saying " this is the most unpleasant eating experience I think I've ever had." I know that they can't really do anything about the flies, but maybe they can set up traps or light incense or candles. I don't know if there's something that they can do, but it was absolutely awful. Once we were inside, it was OK though I would just not recommend sitting outside.
