Poseidon was a wonderful and unexpected hole-in-the-wall find. At first, we didn't know what to…read moreexpect, as the restaurant appeared fairly empty, with the exception of a bored-looking couple seated outside, and the owners friends, seated at a table inside by the kitchen. The restaurant had a dark allure to it, only to be lit brightly by the warm hospitality of its owner. We sat at a humble, candlelit booth for two. The menu was fairly extensive but very reasonably priced. We proceeded to order a couple of (non-alcoholic) beers, and some tzatziki and grilled garlic bread as starters. Let's get into details about the food. [[Tzatziki]] - this was, hands down, the best I've ever had. It looks so simple, yet it was an explosion of flavors. It was perfectly cool and refreshing from the cucumbers, and flavorful with all of the garlic. The yogurt they use is superior to that of America, so it was creamier and thicker. It was so good, we ordered two! [[Garlic Bread]] - though simple, and nothing far-fetched from the ordinary, the grill imparted a wonderful smokey flavor onto the garlic bread, which was delectably crisped and buttered. We used it to dip in the tzatziki. [[Poseidon Platter]] - the restaurant namesake dish. It included calamari, sole fish, and scampi, served with rice. This was delicious, and the presentation was beautiful. Each seafood was fried with care, and the batter was light and crisp, allowing the seafood's flavors to shine. [[Athens Plate]] - this dish came with gyro, lamb chop, steak, pork, and rice. The meat was seasoned and grilled to the tee. This was my friend's dish, but from what I tried, and he ate, it was more than just satisfying. It's been a couple of days since our dinner at Poseidon, and on my first trip to Europe ever. I am, to this moment, reminiscing this dinner experiencing, and longing for another chance to revisit Poseidon once more.

This place was lovely, and had a variety of options on their menu. It was exciting to see such different Greek dishes that I feel like I never see at other restaurants. I began my meal with fasoulada soup (white beans in a tomato broth)- wow. It was incredible. I haven't seen that on a single menu in this country yet, and the flavor was outstanding. Reminded me of when my Yiayia would make it in my childhood. My husband and I both had lamb dishes for dinner. Let me tell you- the lamb was so tender, it was falling apart from just the fork. Delicious. Mine was the lamb in a lemon sauce, with a choice of butter rice or homemade garlic "chips". I chose the latter after hearing the enthusiasm from the waitress over them. It was all delicious. My husband got a dish that was originally supposed to be served with veal, but they were out and he okayed them to sub lamb instead. His was really a winner. It had rice and some kind of tomato sauce- I wish I could remember the names of each of our dishes. Both were outstanding. To top it all off, we shared a nice, light bottle of red wine from Crete. It was nice. We probably should have chosen a fuller bodied wine considering our entree choices, but it was still enjoyable. The staff was very nice. Our waitress offered to translate anything on the menu since they didn't have English menus. We didn't need the help (mostly haha) but it was a kind offer most waitstaff is too busy to do. Absolute bull! I went here in late 2016 using the Schlemmerblock. I will NEVER return. The…read morewaitstaff is not to be trusted, and management does not respond to complaints about their thieving staff. My party of four received good service. The food was nothing special, but you can't expect amazing food in Darmstadt. I had been to Mokka Mokka before and did not expect to get ripped off. The check came, and I paid using my EC card. The waiter then refused to accept my 4:2 Schlemmerblock even though he had it counted on the bill. He did new math in his head and announced the new number. I went along with him, not wanting to be rude in front of the entire table and not really thinking about what was happening. He made a big show of my card not being accepted, which further distracted me. Only after leaving the restaurant, I realized that he told me wrong and I should have gotten two free meals, not just one. He probably took the price of the extra meal as a tip for himself. I wrote to the manager in German. I also wrote to the Schlemmerblock company. Schlemmerblock advised me to leave a bad review on their website. The manager did nothing. I will not be returning.
