The schnitzel was perfectly cooked and paired beautifully with their potato salad, which was also really good. We also tried the Tafelspitz, served with a flavorful beef broth and vegetables. It was hearty, fresh, and packed with flavor. Their house beer on tap was refreshing and went perfectly with the meal. But the real showstopper was dessert--the famous Kaiserschmarrn with apricot. These fluffy, shredded pancakes were absolutely divine, and the apricot added just the right amount of sweetness. Easily one of the highlights of the meal! Service was impeccable, and everything tasted fresh. I highly recommend making a reservation, especially because this is a small restaurant and it clearly has a strong following among locals. The atmosphere is lovely, with a neighborhood, non-touristy vibe that makes the experience feel authentically Viennese. The menu was completely in German, so I did my best with my high school German and the internet. We ordered beer (massive fail, since we went there for wine), and I got a Reisenschnitzel, while my boyfriend got basically fried chicken. I found out AFTER ordering that Reisenschnitzel means "large schnitzel", and that was a very accurate description. It was a massive pork schnitzel that came with a side of cabbage, and potato salad. It was so good, I probably ate more than I should have, but I could only finish half. My boyfriend's fried chicken was really tasty as well. We then waddled about a mile to a U-bahn stop, quite sated. As a side observation, Austrian cooking has a strange but admirable ability to fry food and yet have it still taste light and not oily.

But, it's only perfected with good quality cows. A lot of the popular restaurants have it on their menu but Plachutta specializes in it with more than 10 cuts to choose from!! Recommend going to the og location near Schonnbrunn for a more local crowd. The best way to experience would be getting the "gustostuckerl," where you choose 3 cuts. One of which should be Tafelspitz, the rump of the cow, known to be the emperor's favorite cut I personally preferred the fatty cuts, kavalierspitz (shoulder) & beinfleisch (rib). Love how rich and flavorful the broth is and I know it would taste even better during winter.
