This is an ambient patio dining spot in the summer with slightly above average (yet pricey) food that I had a regrettably bad service experience with.
I came here in a group of 6 business colleagues -- 5 co-workers and our client.
Restaurant Grand Casino botched our order and my smoked trout appetizer sat in front of me uneaten for 40 minutes (I was following dinner protocol and abstaining from eating until the rest of our apps arrived) before we asked them where the rest of our appetizer courses were (two beef carpaccios). Oops, turns out they didn't catch those orders and were waiting for me to finish my trout before bringing our entree course, even though it was clear I hadn't touched it. We then indicated we wanted the carpaccios with our main courses and wanted no further delays. Of course, 15 minutes later, the carpaccios came out independent of our next course, and we waited yet another half hour, and no main courses arrived -- by this time, most of our table was starving.
One of the members of my group then proceeded to light up the manager.
Yes, I acknowledge that we Americans are used to shoveling food down our throats in a lightning-fast pace, and we are not accustomed to leisurely-paced dining, but I've had many meals in Europe, and this was a ridiculously slow-paced meal even by European standards.
After complaining, our entrees came out within minutes.
Unfortunately, our complaints likely caused them to rush the cooking of our orders, as our client ended up with bad food poisoning from the schnitzel, and was on the verge of returning to Germany the next morning and missing our meetings.
Regarding the food:
The "Forelle, Wasabi, Wildkräuter & grüner Spargel" were smoked trout pieces nicely presented with mesclun greens, asparagus chunks, and a wasabi mayonnaise/aioli drizzled on top. This was an average dish in terms of flavor, but the winner of the day in terms of presentation.
The "Frühlingsgemüse, Zitrusfrucht & Oliven", described (perhaps incorrectly) as a Pot Au Feu, was a tasty vegan braised-vegetable dish in a lemon broth served with a crostini topped with a charred tapenade. A light entree, different than what I expected, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Only reason this restaurant avoids a one star rating is that the people who work here were nice (they clearly regretted the issues we had -- though I don't know if my client followed up with them on the food poison issue), the overall nice ambiance was impressive, and the food was not horrible. read more
