La Belle Province - La pièce de résistance: deux steamies all dressed avec frites

On our way home from Mont Tremblant my nephew and I stopped here for our favorite Québec snack:…read moresteamies and fries. We both grew up with Lafleur's and Norman' but we knew this place would sate our appetites. When you walk in you'll see a very long counter to your right where they take your orders. Ken ordered us both two steamies and french fries (the taste cannot be matched anywhere else in the world - and only those who come from Québec understand this). Le madame at the cash/took the orders and before long we were seated at a bench next to the window. The steamies (Montréal-style steamed hot dogs) were prepared "all dressed" avec mustard, relish et coleslaw (it used to be made with a vinegar based dressing back when I was a kid). Had to have vinegar with my fries (yummy ), which is how I've always eaten them. Had a large drink to wash it down and upon completion of our meal, we were both completely satisfied that we had stopped here. What I like about being in Québec (apart from my family) is that they recycle, even in restaurants so when you're finished with your meal you have a choice of two receptacles to put your trash: recyclable items (paper) and trash plastic forks, soda cups). Merci beaucoup, La Belle Province

My husband was craving a steamie and I was craving poutine and we just happened to be visiting the area so off we go our favorite bad for you food place. The poutine is a generous serving of fries with gravy and squeaky curds. If you let the gravy get cold, it becomes a gelatinous mess so eat up quickly. The steamy has the requisite slaw and steamed bun. My husband was in his glory. The venue itself needs a good cleaning but we'll still be back next year for the same mess of bad good food.

I am visiting from out of town and staying with family in Val David and was told this well…read moreestablished eatery was a MUST. They don't take reservations and it's popular so we hoped we wouldn't have to wait long. During our 24 minute wait they have a coffee urn at the entrance to the restaurant so we can help ourselves while we wait. What a fabulous idea!! We sat outside in the outdoor Adirondack chairs while we drank our coffee until seating opened up for us. This place was hopping, and it seemed like that was the way it was throughout our time there. As soon as we were seated the lovely server, Catherine, gave us menus and asked if we wanted more coffee. It was really difficult to chose what to order because everything looked delicious and made on the premises. Because I grew up in Montréal I had to have a traditional Québec meal of the "Cabane à Sucre" Omelette which consisted of an "omelette" (which had to be the lightest and most perfect little pillow, which we were told could be eaten with maple syrup poured into the center when you lift off the top); maple-smoked ham, "oreilles de crisse" (like bacon but very thickly sliced and crisped to perfection, complimented when dipped in their homemade tomato relish); homemade baked beans with chunks of smoked ham and sweetened with maple syrup; home fried potatoes, pure maple syrup and toast (I opted for their HUGE Cottage Bread slices). My nephew's wife had the Table d'ôte consisting of a generous slice of Québec Tortiére, smoked ham, homemade baked beans, home fried potatoes and mashed turnips (with carrots). Applicable to both of us was how we reacted to our meals. Upon each bite of our respective morsels, we slowly savoured the flavours and textures and sweetness as if it were the first time we'd ever tasted Québequois cuisine. It was heaven for our tongues. We made sure to give Catherine a nice tip for her amazing service and lighthearted attitude. On our way out (I had a doggie bag) we stopped at the counter to purchase their homemade Pea Soup to have for dinner. Tasty and light and prepared with very little salt. If you are ever in the Val David area, or anywhere in the Laurentiens (or Montréal, for that matter) treat yourself. It's well worth the drive. Voilà!!

For those who cannot speak French I would not frequent this establishment. Once again the food to price was very good and creative. I will not go back, part of the dining experience is an engaged, happy server, they are definitely missing this aspect unless it seems you are a regular. This is the first time I have reviewed a restaurant that's how bad I felt after leaving.

This place offers a complete pleasurable gastronomical experience. After two visits to this restaurant I can easily say that the serve some of the best meals in the Laurentians. The four criteria I have used are: Visual Composition of the food on the plate, aroma, taste, and value vs. price. I suggest you try their Lunch special if you can. They offer a unique combination of soup or salad + main dish, or Main dish + dessert at an affordable price.

Although the menu was dated as was its execution and that the restaurant lacked finesse - I resisted the urge to go into the kitchen to show them how to do a tomato sauce and baked beans for a hearty and delicious breakfast - no one can claim that the quality of service is anything less than excellent, as is the rest of the hotel service. To prevent me from having to climb a slope with my cane, the hotel manager gave us a more spacious cabin and more beautiful even without altering the agreement. In addition , the 80s retro decor was unimportant when we consider the impeccable cleanliness - no dust or stain anywhere - without forgetting the windowed wall in the cottage which had a gorgeous view of the lake and lying sun while sitting by the fire hearth . It should be mentioned the canary calm and quiet at this resort, we were so relaxed we thought we were getting ill. For the value versus expense, even with the kitchen being a bit outdated, the customer is the winner. I would recommend the place without hesitation.
