What a fun thing to do while we were in Baden-Baden. It felt like a true Black Forest experience eating Bavarian food and sipping on Lowenbrau beer. It's a large establishment with indoor and outdoor seating. Located in the city centre this rustic tavern felt so very German. Really good service, atmosphere, and food. The spatzle was so very Bavarian in flavor. Every bite held its taste. Properly cooked with the herbs hitting just the right balance to bring it all together. We dined here compliments of our hotel. It was described by the concierge as the "place with all the decorations." Yes, in December it is covered in Christmas decor, inside and out, and it was fun just looking around. It is a massive restaurant, with entrances to different seating areas. Traditional beer garden, complete with waiters in traditional German costume. Waitress was super kind to answer all my weird no carb questions and menu changes. I ate a delicious bowl of pumpkin soup. If I could have likced the bowl I would have, it was divine. I ordered a simple turkey dish with vegetables but the vegetable was a mix of carrots, parsnips, squash and some other unidentifiable veg that were perfectly cooked and so good. My husband ate a goulash one night that he really enjoyed so much so we went a second night....and he ate a traditional piece of pork , cabbage and potato knudel...he loved it so much he tried to make it at home after our trip...and succeeded I might add. The beer is Lowenbrau, I tried the dark one, delish. I am sure this place is great in the summer on the outside terrace. It was nice in winter as well. read more

I was driving through Baden Baden and hadn't a good schnitzel yet, this wasn't too far off my route, so I thought I should make a spot. It was rainy and the restaurant was fairly empty, so I had my schnitzel, fries, and beer in a quiet place. The schnitzel was very good, the beer was good, the fries needed to be fried a bit longer, and service was fine. A decent meal that helped me with my cravings, but there probably are better places in the area. read more

You can tell this place is meant for tourists, but it didn't bother us! The meal was still delicious (and for tourists, they accept credit card!). My friend and I split the gargantuan-sized pork knuckle and side salad. The portion still left us with leftovers and stuffed to the point where someone needed to roll us out of there. It was ultra crispy, juicy, and piping hot. It did take some time for our table to be served, but the restaurant was packed at the time and the weather was sunny that day. One star down for this reason, but it is also understandable for a meal to be less rushed in Europe. read more

Don't come here if you are a tourist...which is pretty much everyone. This review is a bummer because my family and I used to come here often and it's sad that we won't be back. We were treated with what I can only describe as disdain and that's probably sugar coating it. I'm not going to extrapolate or guess that it's because we were American (heaven knows we aren't doing ourselves any favors right now) but something was clearly wrong. My husband is a duel citizen and was ordering and speaking with our waiter (when we had one) and we were very polite. Our original waiter stopped waiting on us and we were left with another waiter who was openly annoyed and wouldn't come over to our table. I saw him being cordial and waiting on all of the other tables around us and we were perplexed. After a very long time we almost left because he wouldn't even come over to give us the bill. Rude isn't even close to the way we were treated and I wouldn't put yourself through it when there are many lovely restaurants in town. read more

We had a short amount of time here in Baden-Baden and I really wanted to experience a bier and a brat. We sat down and ordered, the bier came out quickly but as out busses departure time got closer, no brat. When asked about the waitress had misunderstood me and no brat was coming. Let's say up front that this place is definitely for tourists, but hey - Baden-Baden is a tourist destination and just because they're catering to visitors doesn't mean it disappoints. If you're looking for a centrally located restaurant serving traditional German food and beer, this will probably serve just fine. I was there on a lovely summer day, and the staff had done a great job clearing off and drying the patio from morning rain. Service was quick and friendly, and the beer, at least, was excellent. I ordered the roast pork with sauerkraut and a potato dumpling. The beer sauce was pretty tasty, but I can't say the pork was cooked especially well - it was pretty tough. The dumpling and sauerkraut were fine. All in all I'd say it's a fine place for a beer and some Bavarian food, but don't go in expecting it to be more than a nice place to sit outside and enjoy the day. read more

Visited here after a long days work and they did not disappoint. It was late 8pm, and in the off season, so we were able to seat and easy very quickly. We started with the Pumpkin cream soup which is not on the main menu, but you MUST ask for it. (Kürbiscremesuppe mit Kürbisöl). I tried the 6 Sausage from Nuremberg (Nürnberger Würstle) and my colleagues had the chicken salad, filet, pork tenderloins, and knuckle. All delicious and served hot. Beer Halls/Gardens are one of my favorite places to go when in Germany (isn't it everyones?). And it's probably not fair to compare one in Baden Baden to those in Munich, which is famous for Octoberfest, but I'm sure there are better places to eat and drink than Lowenbrau. I had a Radler (when in Germany, right?), and it was fine, but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sausages - doesn't every restaurant do sausages right in Germany? They were bland and tasteless and required a huge dousing in mustard. Based on the 3.5 star review average, I was a little hesitant to come here but I am so glad that I did. The setting is beautiful in the beer garden with hundreds of flowers and twinkly lights in the treetops. They also have indoor and patio seating which looked comfortable as well. The menu is extensive and all the best of Bavaria foods to try. The food which we had was wonderful, cooked perfectly and came out quick. I had the veal schnitzel with a huge lemon and an amazing side salad instead of fries. My dining partner had the pork with beer sauce, cabbage and a dumpling which was huge and very tasty. Baden-Baden was toward the end of our Germany trip, so we were delighted to get one last night in a traditional Bavarian biergarten. I'm going to be honest - the giant Lowenbrau lion on the roof dressed in lederhosen sealed the deal for me! Despite being located in Baden-Wurtenburg, Gasthaus Lowenbrau served up some of the most delicious Obatzda of our trip. Dee-licious, especially with fresh bretzels and giant steins of beer! I had the roasted pork which was tender, delicious and not too fatty. Hubs had the gross brateller aka "the giant wiener". It WAS giant - feel free to insert your best giant wiener joke here! The outdoor biergarten area is especially attractive, with strings of lights, spring flowers in pots and a carousel in the middle for the kiddos. To top it off, we had very good service from cool waiter Jan who made our night fun. I miss Germany already!! read more

after 3 hours of soaking and steaming, you'll be royally starved. so hightail it to this typical bavarian biergarten for delicious food just a short walk from the baths. in summer i usually go for a huge plate of roast turkey salad and in colder climes, the house specialty Schweinshaxen - meaty, tender, roast pork hocks with beer sauce and bread knödel or the equally tasty roast pork loin. and always a plate of kraut salad. have been going to Baden for nearly 3 years and haven't really felt a need to eat anywhere else. everything is good and inexpensive. everyone here has become friendly over time and our dishes have gotten progressively bigger each visit. ich vermisse Sie! read more

Before leaving on our way towards home, we wanted to have a final meal in Baden-Baden. We decided to go to the Löwenbräu and chose the Bierkeller. Already on our way in we were greeted by the lovely woman behind the bar with a friendly smile and hello. We received our menus immediately upon picking a table and were asked if we already knew what we wanted to drink. As always we started with a beer. Since I prefer to graze I decided to put together in an unorthodox meal starting with a liver dumpling soup, followed by Wurstsalat (a "salad" made from julienned sausage with chopped pickles and onions tossed in a vinaigrette) with bread and a cabbage salad on the side. I do love sour things. Jack decided to get a tomato soup which he just loved and a plate of Nürnberger sausages with sauerkraut. The latter actually tasted like authentic sauerkraut from Nürnberg which is a little sweeter then the variety we have in Frankfurt. We enjoyed everything and finished the meal by sharing a Linie Akvavit and a Vogelbeerschnaps. I can only highly recommend this establishment which features not only the rustic, cozy beer cellar, but also an upstairs restaurant as well as a large patio with umbrellas. read more

After soaking in the baths at Caracalla Therme, we walked just a short distance to the center of Baden-Baden to find Löwenbräu, the most charming German beer garden you can imagine. Set higher than the rest of the restaurants, Löwenbräu provides a great spot for outdoor spectator watching as you drink huge draft beer and nosh on GIGANTIC and delicious platters of food! To top it off, the waitstaff are wearing traditional and very cute beer frau outfits as they go above and beyond the call of duty to get you whatever you need. SUPER friendly, attentive, and perfect English speaking waitstaff. The prices were a little expensive, but it's Baden-Baden after all. We'll definitely go back when we return. In town with a buddy to check out Baden Baden, and we were not in the mood for tapas, so we were happy to find this Lowenbrau restaurant. We had their Oktoberfest beer, which was phenomenal, and a good traditional German dinner. Service was good, food was good, atmosphere was nice; no complaints. For us, it was just a really cool, casual place that was not like many of the other restaurants in Baden Baden. Traditional bavarian food and fun environment

There seem to be 2 listings for the same place. As far as I can tell, the beer garden is associated with the hotel. I can't comment on the hotel, but the beer garden was by far the worst food and drink we had in 2 weeks in Germany, and was by no means the cheapest meal we ate. In fact, we had a great meal for 30% less a few steps away from the Lowenbrau beer garden. From the time we ordered until our dinners arrived was less than 60 seconds. This means nothing was fresh. The pork was fatty, the potato dumpling were mushy but tough. The beer is nothing special either. Give this place wide berth. There are so many good places to eat, it seems a shame to waste time, money, or calories here. I can only assume that things have really gone downhill at this restaurant, as none of the glowing reviews are from this year. read more
