As a vegetarian I was a bit worried about eating at the local restaurant, but it worked out wonderfully. They were very friendly and accommodating to us and our baby. The food was delicious. Seriously, it was some of the best food we've had in Switzerland yet. We were lucky enough to be in town for Spargelzeit (asparagus time) and had to order off the Spargel menu. Since it's a seasonal thing, the dishes we had won't be available year round. Regardless, I can't imagine the rest of the menu isn't worth trying. The presentation was lovely. If you are in the area and looking for a good, local meal, this is the place to go.

We went with two versions of the traditional roesti; the Gruerien and the Valaisan, both of which were excellent. The Valasian, with tomatoes and raclette cheese was a bit more plain, but the tomatoes really helped cut the richness of the cheese and buttery potatoes. That said, I preferred the Gruerien since it comes with speck (bacon lardons) and onions, but without the tomatoes to cut it, the richness is strong. The restaurant itself isn't huge, so reservations or eating early are advisable. Service was friendly, but this seems to be a predominately French-speaking town, and only one of the servers spoke english. That said, we didn't have any trouble getting by in pidgin French and a bit of English, so don't let that scare you off. Overall probably the best Swiss food I've had in four different trips to Switzerland, and if you're in the area it is definitely worth visiting!

Some people sat at a table marked "Reserved for [my last name]", the staff should pay attention to not let that happen. They only accept cash. Order at the counter, sit and make your number visible, they'll bring you the burgers. Get your drink yourself. You can get one free refill of iced tea (let's agree, it should be unlimited).
