Flemish stew of pig cheeks - 3.5 star I've never had this dish before so have no comparison but a lot of people around us were ordering this dish. I myself thought this dish was okay but my husband liked it. I could taste the alcohol in this dish or something of that sort which is probably why I didn't like it too much. Waterzooi with chicken soup- 4 star. This thing is huuuuuuuuuuuuge. You can probably share it between 3 people and get full. First time eating it and it was quite delicious. The soup is cream based and I mean a lot of watery cream, so the stomach can handle so much. I had about two big bowls and couldn't do it any more. Both signature dishes come with a side of croquettes or frites. We ordered the croquettes which were good, but average croquettes with no bells and whistles. They offer ham and cheese croquettes which I think could be amazing. Service was super slow as there were only two waiters working the entire place it seemed and this place was packed in both first and second floor. It's worth trying just to try a traditional Flemish dish at least once in your life.

The extensine beer list is 'borrowed' from the Waterhuis bar next door- if you order a beer, the person serving you will pop out from that building into the pub next door and fetch it for you, at the same price. It's more comfy than the Waterhuis so we stayed here all evening, sampling the beers from next door... The food menu was fairly basic, and if you're not keen on fish or allergic to seafood then you're left with beef stew, and that's it. Luckily, the beef stew was very, very good. Between the slow-cooked stew, rich desserts and the great range of beer, and with no apparent pressure to order or leave being applied, this turned out to be a great and quite romantic place to spend a whole Ghent evening. Knokke is a cute little coastal beach town and we were there in the spring when the weather is not so nice but luckily we were able to get a table without a wait as surely this place would be packed during peak season. All 4 of my colleagues went for the beef tartare which looked good - and they said it was done really well but to me it just looked like beef mince on a plate. I ordered the lamb chops and it was delicious! Cooked and seasoned to perfection. They had a really good selection of desserts but of course I had to try something I normally couldn't. I had the ice cream with advocaat - which is like a liqueur. The ice cream was creamy and delicious but thought the liqueur was a bit strong! Huge portion of it actually so only ate the best bits. Dunno if I'd come back to Knokke but if I do I'd definitely want to come back here for dinner.
