This place is a conditorei (has a sit down area to enjoy pastries and sweet baked treats) and not a confiserie (take away truffles and candies). They claim to have the best hot chocolate and I would have to disagree. They do have good desserts to pair with their hot chocolate. The building its in has been around since 1824. The bakery opened in 1874 but the cafe didn't actually open until March 2019 so, the name is misleading. They have indoor seating and also patio seating in front or in the back. They have smoothies, milkshakes, matcha, cold brew options, sparkling wine options, ice cream, patisserie items, and brunch food. You have 6 options for their hot (or cold) non-alcoholic chocolate: classic, with marshmallows, with whipped cream, with chili flakes, with a shot of fresh ginger, with a shot of espresso; or 4 alcoholic hot (or cold) chocolate options: rum, amaretto, Bailey's or Grand Marnier. Passion Fruit Panna Cotta: Nice balance of bitter dark chocolate and tart Passionfruit. The panna cotta was creamy and soft. Dark chocolate holding everything together. I love Passionfruit and chocolate combo. 4.5/5 Chocolate Mousse: You can't go wrong with anything chocolate in Switzerland. This has white chocolate, milk chocolate and dark chocolate, and cocoa nibs at the bottom. Great creamy texture. Pillowy like marshmallow. 4/5 The Classic Hot Chocolate with Whipped Cream: Underwhelming. I've had better hot chocolate somewhere else in Zürich. One of my favorite areas in Zurich, varied and authentic. The only downside of Cafe Noir is that the staff are not the most welcoming towards non-regulars. It's happened to me more than once that I was waiting at the bar to order when regulars came in, coffees were made and chats were had while I was just being ignored. It's great that this is a true neighborhood joint but they could do with a bit more friendliness towards the ordinary customer.

Der Empfang war sehr freundlich, die Bedienung hat auch gerne und gut ihre besonderen Getränke oder Speisen erläutert. Die Speisekarte wechselt täglich und soweit ich sehen konnte werden die Gerichte frisch zubereitet. Ich habe eine der Spezialitäten des Hauses, Hackbraten, gewählt. Schein mir auf den zweiten Blick dann doch etwas seltsam ("hast Du wirklich grad für rund 18 Franken ein Stück Hackbraten bestellt??"), doch ich wurde positiv überrascht. Interessante Kombination mit Kräutern und leckerer Tomatensauce, und auch die Bratkartoffeln dazu waren frisch und knusprig in der Pfanne gebraten. In einem Café soll natürlich auch der Kaffee gut sein, und das ist er meiner Meinung nach. Keine Offenbarung, sondern ein solider guter Cappuccino mit einer schönen stabilen Milchschaumhaube (trotz Schokopulver hielt der Milchschaum bis zum Schluss - dass er weniger wurde lag nur daran, dass ich ihn zwischendurch gelöffelt habe). Die Bohnen (Marke: Café Noir) sind ebenfalls gut. Auf der Karte stehen nicht nur viele Weine, sondern auch viele ausgefallene alkoholfreie Getränke, z. B. Bitterorangen-Limonade, Rhabarber-Limonade, Holunder-Sirup. So haben auch die Nicht-Weintrinker was zum Aussuchen und Probieren :-) Da es sich um das ehemalige Hutmachergeschäft handelt hat das Erdgeschoss grosse Schaufenster nach draussen mit viel Licht, ist aber etwas klein. Dafür gibt es eine superenge Wendeltreppe nach oben (bei Gegenverkehr muss man sich einigen wer zurück geht, aneinander vorbei geht nicht) in den ersten Stock, in dem man sich fast wie in der Stube einer Familie fühlt, in die noch ein paar Tische gestellt wurden. Auch ein bequemes Sofa gibt es hier. Außerdem gibt es noch ein kleines grünes Fleckchen draußen mit 7 Tischen, zwar direkt am Kreisel gelegen, aber mit schöner Umrandung aus Hecken und Blumen. Fazit: War ein toller Besuch mit tollem Essen, guten Getränken, superfreundlicher Bedienung und einem außergewöhnlichen Ambiente. Ich komme gerne wieder!
