The plates are huge so be ready. I was not able to finish mine as hard as I tried. If you get a schnitzel you will hear the pounding in the back as they make it fresh. The service was fast and very good. I loved their salad which was very typical of that area where you get a little bit of different greens and vegetables.

Das erste Mal, dass ich im Ochsen war, war nur eine Bedienung anwesend und dazu die Kasse abgestürzt. Wir mussten trotzdem nicht unangenehm lange auf das Essen warten. Beim zweiten Mal war dann die Rechnung auch nicht mehr handgeschrieben und das Essen war noch eine Spur schneller da. Ich komme wieder!

Die Portion Käsespätzle, die exzellent geschmeckt hat, war extrem klein, sodass man das Restaurant so hungrig verlässt wie man es betreten hat. Da hilft auch der Nachtisch nicht, der zu dem Gericht dazu gereicht wurde. Während bei uns der Service sehr gut war, wurden an unserem Nebentisch die Getränke vergessen und erst nach dem Essen nachgereicht

in der Altstadt von Marbach... sehr empfehlenswert! Dies ist meine erste Rezession... Unglaublich...die Idee ein Eis mit einem hochwertigen Öl zu kombinieren fand ich ja schon superklasse... Aber die "Fladen" welche meine Frau zu ihrer leckeren Schweinemedallions bekam, sagenhaft! :) Wir haben das natürlich sofort versucht zuhause nachzustellen...an das Original kam es nicht heran, also ist der nächste Besuch im Schillerhof sozusagen schon reserviert :) Das Ambiente passt, für meinen Geschmack war es sehr gemütlich. Einzig die Gäste hinter uns waren etwas laut, aber das kommt eben in den besten Restaurants mal vor. Übrigens waren Bedienung/Koch (vermtl. Chef und Chefin) absolut freundlich und vertehen ihr Handwerk. Da ich ein Fleischgourmet bin kann ich hier sagen: sehr gut gebraten und gewürzt! Absolut empfehlenswert. I had the Matjes Nordisch (pickled herring with dill-honey mustard sauce, with cabbage and a side of fried potatoes. The matje fillets were really good - the flavour wasn't too "fishy" or pungent, and the sauce was very tasty. There was an assortment of fresh vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, endives) on the side for garnish which I really liked. Very tasty dish with the cabbage. The potatoes were served separately and were also very well prepared. Very filling portion and the price was appropriate. The food was slow to arrive, even considering we were a big group. There was also some confusion as to how we could pay. We saw others getting their bills brought to their tables, but we were told we had to go inside, but then there was no one to help us inside for a while, and we had to stand in the way of the wait staff while we were trying to get someone's attention. In general, we felt all of the wait staff was a little rude to us. Maybe it's worth dealing with for the good food and nice location, but there are so many Swabian restaurants around that I can't imagine it would be difficult to find something that combines good food with good service.
