Also tried an appetizer (enough for a meal on its own) of a cheese marinated in an onion sauce covered with chopped onions on slices of fresh dark bread - surprisingly tasty, though they were surprised and seemed a little worried that a foreigner would order it lol. We were the only non-Germans there, among 4 largish tables that are expected to be shared. Dinner for 2, including 3 glasses of wine, was only €45. Cash only - they have no internet connectivity (no cell signal, let alone wi-fi, which was a good opportunity to disconnect and let time slow down), but there's an ATM nearby.

The restaurant is quite large and is a gathering place for food and drink, serving traditional German dishes (served family style) and local wine and beer. Schloss Weinhaus serves local beer and wine, and the welcoming servers keep everything coming, from starters, main course and desert. They don't slack on the beverages either. The crowning glory is the live music with standard German and American songs (some Elvis, Roll out the Barrel, et). It's a rollicking good time.

Just about everyone was very friendly including all the really great bartenders who acted like friends. We were treated like regulars after a couple of late night visits. The food was amazing, service was nice, and the patio was very comfortable near the river. We had 6 people. My wife had chicken schnitzel with a side of spaghetti (rather than French fried), I had ziti with chicken & zucchini, others had veal schnitzel, pasta with ham, caprese salad and some bread. Everyone liked their meal and said how it was nice to stay in town. When the meals were served they provided everyone with some shaved Parmigiana cheese in cute little holders - why doesn't every Italian restaurant in the world do that? Plus they provided us Americans two bowls of large ice cubes for our water. They had a large choice of beer, wine & cocktails. Two thinly cut pieces of chicken breast fried to perfection and the French fries were cooked fresh and needed no seasoning. The service was very good and friendly and English was not a problem with our waiter. The prices were very good and it would have been more expensive in the United States. The pastry comes out smoking, piping out. There's literally steam coming out of it. This left quite an impression as it is certainly dramatic. I must admit that I love these experiences as I just don't see U.S. eateries handing me such a temperature hot pastry due to all these needless safety reasons. As for the pastry itself, it is a twirl so you can tear off chunks that are partial curls. It has a nice crunch on the outside while the inside is perfectly chewy. You choose different topics.
