Went for the "prato de boa lembrança" and discovered a lovely restaurant! Great atmosphere, food was delicious, and good service.

We don't have many Japanese restaurants where I live, so when I travel, I look to see if they do…read more Temakeria do Porto is considered the #1 Japanese restaurant in the tourist town of Porto de Galinhas, and while I didn't eat in all of them here, I really did like their food very much! We ate more than we should have, but after the first few pieces, we wanted to try more. We had uramaki made of smoked salmon, tuna and brie cheese (it cost $6 and was delicious!); then we tried the nigiri octopus which was also well-made (cost $4!); we then had the 20-piece combo (comprised of 6 pieces of sashimi, 6 hot rolls (tempura), 4 uramaki skin with crunchy kale & 4 salmon with Philly cream cheese, it cost $13 US), and all the fish was very fresh and tasty and the rice was properly seasoned. To finish, we had what they called "jou", which was shrimp wrapped in a salmon that was torched on the outside, topped with a chili sauce. Four pieces cost $6.50. I would've liked this so much more without the sauce because the sweet chili sauce took away from the great flavors of the ingredients. Other than that, I have no complaints about anything. The service was excellent and we didn't have to wait long for any of the dishes. I really wish I remember the name of our waiter, because he was really good and deserves the praiseThe ambience of the 2nd floor seating was very pleasant: an open air balcony looking over the pedestrian-only street below; dark wood with some Asian decorations, but not too much to look kitchy. My wife was a chef in NYC in a previous life, so she appreciates good food; after dining here, she me the head chef and the main sushiman and they were both deserve kudos for their fine work. Thanks for a fine meal!
