There are bus stops a few feet away depending on where you're going and which bus you're taking. There are lots of restaurants and cafes in this area. The hotel is beautiful outside and inside. I'm also about smells - this hotel smells fresh and clean. We left our backpacks here when we arrived in the morning and did the preliminary check-in process so that when we came back to check-in in the afternoon, all we had to to do was grab our room key and our backpacks. The lobby is quite nice. There's a beautiful restaurant with a nice view of the lake. There's a nice gym on the top floor. You can workout with a view of the lake. There's a spa area. However, it's uncomfortably hot in the gym. The room was beautiful. It was spacious and we had a balcony with a table and chairs so you can enjoy the view while eating breakfast or a snack. The fridge has bottles of water, soda and juice. There are also bottles of water on the nightstand. The bathroom is quite small. L'occitane toiletries. You get robes and slippers. Plenty of TV channels from all around the world. As long as I get British channels, I'm all set. And American shows dubbed in a different language is always funny to me. The bed was comfortable with lots of pillows. It was very quiet. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at this hotel.

The breakfast meal and food and hotel service was wonderful. The food was always delicious and clean. My company comes here often, usually in teams, sometimes just one person at a time. Our clients use this hotel, too. Although the room was tiny and its description was misleading, everything was clean. Yet, it is in the room that I have had the worst experience of my entire business career. I have traveled all over the world for over 30 years and have had horrific experiences, but none of the rooms harmed me, until now. It is a very simple thing, but it is treacherous, and there is no excuse for it. And the staff admitted it. The bathroom has a small step that one must navigate from the bedroom. At daytime, this step up to the bathroom from the bedroom is easily seen, and as long as there is enough light, one steps up easily. Yet at night, when I was sleepy, in the total dark, I tripped on the step and fell onto the stone floor directly impacting my left knee and wrist, injuring myself. My knee swelled up instantly and I was in pain instantly, and severely. I called my friend in the US who told me to go to the kitchen to get ice and take ibuprofen. I did so. I had one day of work left and did not want to let my team down. I had one last night left to stay in Geneva before flying back home. So instead I went down to the kitchen in search of ice. The kitchen staff was incredibly considerate and prepared a large sealed ice pack which kept me from going to the hospital. As I write this, three days later, my knee is less swollen and bruised, but it still swollen and hurts a little. There is no excuse to put a step leading to the bathroom so someone can trip and hurt themselves in the dark. My business team and client use this hotel and need to stay near Montreaux, and we also stay in Geneva and Zurich. I will strongly advise our company to avoid this hotel after 1) being injured because of a dangerous and useless step, and 2) not receiving any sort of coupon, adjustment or written apology after being injured because of a careless design flaw. My knee and wrist still hurt. I cannot express my deep disappointment at this acknowledged safety hazard. If I was in the United States, I would take further action, but I loved everything else about this hotel, and wish only positive things and a thank you to the cafe staff that helped me when no one else in the hotel would help me. When I told the front desk when I checked out, all they said was they knew this step was there, and was in other rooms, as well. This acknowledged trip hazard borders on egregious ignorance and a strict review to be certain of compliance and accident prevention, IMHO.

Positioned half way between Montureux and Vevey, this is a gorgeous little campsite, hidden just…read moreoff the main road. I believe that it is open in spring summer and Autumn - although you might get away with putting a tent here in the colder months. It is right on the lake front - has plentiful grassy tent and caravan sights and has very private area's for swiming and sunbathing. It's set down from the road so it is very quiet as well. There are bar facilities with tables set right at the water front. The staff are extremely friendly and were fluent in and welcoming to English speakers. I believe that they have occasional bands playing and small festivals but it otherwise seems like a very quiet and family friendly venue. Vevey or Montreux are each about a 20 minute walk around the lake in either direction. Busses stop out the front so it would be an easy venue to get to by public transport. This is a little gem of a place. It's a tranquil, quiet and beautiful location. The Alps soaring over the lake are something that have to be seen to be appreciated. But from here you can also enjoy all the night life and other adventures to be had in two of Switzerlands most cosmopolitan towns. (Well Montreux is anyway - but Vevay is also cool!)

Our tour group reserved a train car for the trip from Lucerne to Montreux, Switzerland…read more Swiss trains ran on time to the minute, and we were lined up ready to go, when our tour leader, at the last moment, boarded a different car from where we were standing. Critical mistake, as we went from front of the line to the second half of the party of 42 boarding. Of course the first 22 people took all the front facing seats, with we having to get back facing seats. And no changing train cars as our tour group had seats reserved only in that train car. We ended up having to twist our necks for the next 4 hours to take pictures between the photo bombing trees of waterfalls, snow covered mountain peaks towering over luscious green alpine valleys, with immaculate swiss chalets dotting the countryside. And whoa if you have motion sickness, as backward facing seats only exacerbate the condition! Trains have comfortable angled seats, similar to front car seats, complete with tables. Windows stretched the entire length of the car, and vertically from seating level to wraping around the curve of the ceiling edge. Best views were on Lake Geneva, on the incline down to Montreux, the Swiss Riviera, with calm deep blue green waters, with mountains in the background. Even in Switzerland nothing is perfect. Once we got to Montreux and the rail yards, you had graffiti covered bridges and delivery transport!

A highlight of our recent trip in Switzerland was our several day adventures on the MOB Golden Pass…read moreLine. We had purchased a Eurail Pass to use on our 4 country trip and I knew the Golden Pass was going to be one of the highlights. I not only found it to be much easier to book than the trains in Italy or the UK but I found it to be cleaner and they ran flawlessly. We used the MOB ( Montreux Oberland Bernois) first class Belle Epoque car to go from Montreux to Zweismman via Gstaad just for the pure scenery and then we did the Prestige Class car to Guyeres via Montbovon for the pure luxury and again ALL scenery. It's relatively easy to book on the MOB site with a Swiss Rail pass or Eurail Pass but you must book a seat reservation for 1st class in the Belle Epoque car ( which feels straight out of the Orient Express!) or the Prestige Class Car. You will pay an up charge and to me it was worth it. We just used the MOB Golden Pass last week ( March 20-22) and the Zweissman to Interlakken Ost was not in service due a service issue. We did run into an issue on the way back from Zweissman and had to get off the train at Montbovon wait for a bus and ride a bus to another stop and then get on a random train because of a rail issue. That was not fun as the roads are super twisty; there was no refund or apology and I suppose one should feel safety is the upmost importance but I did find that annoying. We used the other MOB Golden Pass line one day to go up to Rocher de Naye via funicular and again the scenery is superb. This funicular climbed and climbed via rail and if you have ever or NEVER experienced the Swiss alps, you should just once in your life. This is one way to see it in all of its beauty and glory for the heaven that it is. The trains do run on time and the service is standard. Except for the day we had Prestige Class, we had champagne in that first class car there was no snack etc. so bring your own-- first or second class. I still recommend this as a way to see Switzerland landscape and its alpine glory for all that it is. We hopped off in a village and had lunch in Haut de Caux and hopped back on after a lunch of fondue and feel we lived a dream. Even the Montreux station is pretty!

The Beau-Rivage was built in 1861, and 2 major peace treaties were signed here: the armistice ending the war between Italy and Turkey in 1912, and the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923. There are Michelin star restaurants in the hotel: PIC au Beau-Rivage Palace. Three other restaurants offer Japanese and Swiss cuisine. The ultra luxurious Guerlain Spa has indoor and outdoor swimming pools, 9 treatment rooms, 1 tennis court, 1 paddle court, and a golf practice area. An amazing place to stay, plus Lausanne is so much fun and gorgeous in spring and summer.

There is a great view of Lake Geneva from the hilltop during our walks. Be mindful of the incline walking to the hotel. Hotel is located by a bus stop. The place was neat. The front desk staff was nice. There is a restaurant with great food. They accommodated us and allowed us to order and eat you arriving 10 mins before closing. We explained we were extremely hungry from our train travel.

And the location was close to everything - Restaurants of all kinds, coffee shops, the cathedral, the main sights downtown. The train station was a bit further but still just a long walk. The hotel also includes a free transit pass. I would highly recommend Hôtel de la Paix if you're staying Lausanne, a beautiful city.

5* no contest on this one…read more I have left CH 2 yrs ago and back ten I loved going there on a sunday afternoon any season to enjoy a niceclub sandwich. And over the years it was always outstanding. Yes it's pricey but boy do you get our money worth, the setting is great, a nice old fashioned smallish luxury palace on the lakeside. The terrace is a true highlight, as you face the magnificant french alps and indulge your snack, lunch or dinner the only noise that might disturb this very quiet is the horn of a "belle époque" ship on the lake ! The rooms are very comfortable, if you are lucky to have a lakeview the confort level reaches obscene levels. Having grown up in the area, I thought I was used to the view, which I found out was not the case at all. This is a new perspective when you are lying in your bed contemplating it is really something unique. So since I don't live in CH anymore I always take the time to get off the highway when driving past Vevey t grab a bite or have a coffee, and I have NEVER been dissapointed :-)
