We were glad we saved some time to visit this hidden gem, after seeing the main exhibit at Ordrupgaard.

Maybe the Royals where there as the guards basically said i couldnt step to the courtyard and could only see the gardens. Boo. This is mostly a residence used in autumn but there are a lot of state affairs here too. Too bad I couldnt only walk the perimeter and look from afar. My suggestion is to instead, go to Hillerod and see that castle there instead. Even without a tour its way more picturesque and accessible.

The exhibitions change all the time so check the information before you go. The rooms guide you through the museum easily. The cafe is amazing as it has glass walls on both sides and makes you feel like being outdoors in the nature. The yard of the museum is large and has some interesting art installations. Good for a Sunday trip/walk. Ideally go there when the weather is nice so you can enjoy the yard. By public transport you need to take the train to klampenborg and then a bus which leaves you just around the corner. Quite easy to find. There is also a closer train station which when reaching with bike takes about 10 minutes to bike to the museum.

The time involved in getting there from Central Copenhagen, the small size and the expense (110 kroner I think) means it's probably not worth it unless you are really into Impressionism and works from the same era.

However, I feel like the museum was inadequate. The actual museum was the converted church, filled with his tools and explanations on how he investigated the sky and measured the heavenly bodies and pulled his theory. The rest of the ground was his former estate and we also visited this (TINY) underground observatory that was super tiny that you could only fit 10+ people in. I guess it's not their fault that they have only "THOSE" to exhibit, it was just my expectation that it would be so much more, but if you're ever in Ven, this place is a must visit. It is located in the "town", and it takes a lot of effort to bike up here (the highest point of the island) LOL but you can't really miss it on your visit to Ven, can you?

This is a Museum you have to visit if you want to understand Danish history. All houses look cute…read moreand romantic, but in reality people had a really really hard life. Especially women- I think. This Frilandsmuseet is actually collection of houses from mostly the 19th century. They are very authentic and you can still feel and smell life at the time. I liked all the buildings, but most impressive was old wooden windmill, yellow spooky hospital and fishermens house. Everybody can find something they like. But most beneficial is to see how fortunate we are to be born in these days. I feel respect for old generations (not only Danish) and also more understand how important education and evolution in every direction connected to life. Even though I have 5 stars, I think there may be little bit more to add to this place. For example showing original old crafts (smith, fabrics making, cooking, shoe making, beer making, ....) so we could touch, smell and taste flavor as our ancestors. The ponies for kids and carriage for adults were nice, but more hands on activities would be great. I had a lot of fun with my family and hopefully we will be back sometime soon!

We visited the castle on a Sunday around noon. Semi busy and we saw a couple of guided tours…read more 4 levels that were accessible via a spiral staircase. (Elevator was available also). Restrooms were located in the lower level. Tight spiral staircase with the lower level having a Dungeon atmosphere. We enjoyed the period paintings both on the walls and ceilings (some were breathtaking). The Castle has housed the Museum of National history (since 1878) with a collection that presents 500 years of Danish history. The furniture, Grand rooms, Knights armor and overall decorations transport you back to a time long ago. My only wish would have been to have more posted information/signage about what was in view. There is also a Church attached/next door which wasn't open to the public when we first arrived as there was a wedding. Opened up when we finished our Castle tour so we walked next door and spent some time there. Organ was playing so it added to the peaceful vibe and complemented the architectural beauty. It took us about 1.5 hours for Castle and Church although we didn't explore the grounds and the garden area in the back -so would recommend 2.5 to 3 hours for all. Saw a small Cafe. Service minded people were helping visitors with questions and ticket purchases. Really impressed by this Castle as well Hillerød.

Pretty cool to walk around and learn some things. Very interesting how they made this structure…read moreunderground's. Lots of different angles in the floors and an interesting use of space. We actually got a little vertigo or something because the floors are not level in areas and it messes with your equilibrium I think. There is a little kid area that is probably great for little ones. Went here on the Copenhagen Card pass and it was worth it.
