I had ID, had account numbers, and she could see the account holder had been with them for decades. This is a common practice all over the world, depositing funds into someone else' account. This branch manager insisted I open an account with them and then transfer funds to my friend's account. Walked a mile to another branch where they happily provided the service that took the other branch half an hour to say "no" to.

They support local Ukrainian organizations and schools, incidentally. While the credit union does most of the stuff you can get at a bank, you'll have to pay a service fee to use their ATM card elsewhere, since there aren't multiple branches around town. They seem to get bigger and bigger, too: now Buduchnist's financial services are swallowing up the old West Arka next door. Unlike the big banks, their growth comes back to the members, even if the folksy, grassroots feeling is lost in the process.

It's a small, community based credit union, and of course you have a say in how it's run. And also you get returned a share of the profits! In 2013, they returned something like $250,000 to their members. I originally signed up to this bank because I saw a sign that said they offer free chequing while passing by on the Bloor night bus. I think one of the reasons that this place is a secret is because the hundreds of thousands of people passing underneath it every day don't see this sign. Here are some of the things you get for free that you don't get anywhere else: -Free certified cheques and Money Orders (!) -Free regular cheques -Free pretty much everything else! -Teller service, if you want it -Free use of The Exchange ATMs across the country; you probably have one around the corner and you don't even know it yet... -Only $2 to use Mastercard ATMs in any other country in the world - that's cheaper than they advertise! Potential barriers: -Both branches are in Etobicoke along the Bloor subway line. I live in Vancouver now, though, and that hasn't really stopped me from enjoying their services. -You have to buy a $40 share to join. But you would get the money back if you wanted to leave.

Firstly, the "Security guard" was listening to music in her headphones and dancing in the window and not being attentive to her surroundings. That didn't make me feel more secure. Secondly, I was there to deposit a CERTIFIED cheque from another branch of TD Bank. After waiting for it to be approved by a manager, I was asked what the cheque was for! That's personal and of no relevance to the transaction...it is a CERTIFIED CHEQUE from TD Bank! Full stop, we cannot proceed further unless I provide an answer. Unbelievable!! Then I was told that there would be a 5 business day waiting period. Really?!?!! I asked why and was told that it needs to be cleared. Again, it is a CERTIFIED CHEQUE from within their own company! It had already been cleared. All this, yet they were happy to cash a stolen cheque drawn on my account without any questions or even verifying the signature on it, which clearly was not mine, and scolded ME for apparently letting someone access my chequebook (they broke into my house, then my locked desk drawer to get to the chequebook). THEY CASHED A FRAUDULENT CHEQUE DRAWN FROM MY ACCOUNT AND TRIED TO BLAME ME!!! I have had enough of this shocking BS with TD Bank and I am closing all of my accounts and moving my wealth to a better bank.

For that reason, I felt more comfortable that they are genuinely interested in client relationship. It is a good business strategy because by building relationship and showing concern to answering my needs, I felt comfortable in using their other products like credit cards, home, auto and travel insurance. Another thing that I like about this location is that the lines are never long. Parking is free at the basement but don't forget to inform the teller.
