Manager offered us a table in the walkway, even though place was almost empty. We requested a…read morequieter location. Downhill from there. Server coughed repeatedly, uncovered, on us and our table. We ordered anyway, hoping we would not get covid. Wine selection was extensive, of course they didn't have the one we wanted, so we regrouped and ordered a different Barbera. However, this one was sparkling, and not what we wanted. Server neglected to mention that tidbit, and manager was insouciant that it is what we ordered. NOWHERE on the wine list did it say frizzante, sparkling, or spumonte. Manager tried to gaslight me to believe that "all the world knows that La Monella is a sparkling wine", and that is what I had ordered. Guilt/shame your customer? Total liar. Fried risotto was decent enough, then I was served the worst rib steak I've ever had. Stringy, tough, and skimpy, at least it was medium rare. Something tells me our petulant server requested I get shoe leather after the wine debacle. Wife's seared tuna was flavorless, porcini mushrooms were cold, even though it was served on a cast iron plate. Both had been sitting for a while before service. Server should have given notice that the wine was sparkling, after we had ordered a non-sparkling Barbera just minutes before. Manager doubled down, and backed up his lousy server (family?), instead of graciously offering to correct their mistake. If anyone reading this recognizes that La Monella is a sparkling wine off hand, good on you. I'm fairly certain a very small percentage of people know exactly what that is, even in Italy. Would rate lower if I could, will never eat there again. We saw the ugly side of Milan tonight. I didn't experience Milanese arrogance until this restaurant tonight. Americans, go elsewhere, we were treated like royalty at Beef Club, and the food was sublime.
