The lady that helped us as soon as we got there at 7:45am on a Wednesday morning...if i could go back n kiss her i would! We broke down the night before in Blaeberry (ya what a name right???) with a flat and had a horrible experience with being broke down on the side of a highway and a useless rental service "caa" (supposedly) coming to our "rescue" (we ended up doing most of the work). Anyways long story short ...traumatizing until we got to Revelstoke...and upon the helpful advice of a nearby 7-eleven Aussie employee we came upon this place .... And they are the saviours of our journey. No exaggeration. That first lady (we presume the boss) was fantabulous and seriously made us feel so reassured..so calm...so listened to. I highly recommend these guys if ur in the area ...they did an oil change and fixed our tire for a super reasonable price and super quality service in a super timely manner! We were back on the road in less than an hour and a half after showin up before they even opened and they did their super best to help us! There was also a skate/snowboard shop in the building but it was closed when we went. It was definitely my kind of joint: snowboard & ski videos playing on flat screen TVs, good dance music bumpin, local art on the walls, black lights on the lanes, and great service from the bar. There were kids, teens, and adults there all having fun. The place was packed when we showed up around 7pm so we played a couple rounds of pool and had some cocktails before we got on the lanes. Not sure if they do reservations but I might suggest checking that out if you are going on a weekend. 5-pin was different but fun and challenging. You use small bowling balls with no finger holes and get three turns per frame instead of two. The points multiply if you strike or spare in the first two turns of the frame, but not on the third turn. I enjoyed the uniqueness of the game but lost 3 of 4 games to my wife. The only draw back to The Cabin was the limited food menu, but I wouldn't take a star away from them for that. Because we started around 8 and bowled 4 games, many of the restaurants had closed by the time we were done. We ended up finding some great pizza at the local bar, The Village Idiot. In summary: great drinks, fun atmosphere, and friendly staff. Not your typical bowling alley. I definitely plan to come back on my next trip to Revelstoke!

A year passes and I'm still looking (OK, didn't try much in the meanwhile). Turns out their Peak Performance gear is what I need, and you can't get it in the States (I'm from Seattle, Washington). My experiences with haircuts in Toronto are nearly always the same thing: never truly pleased with the cut I get and the folks doing the cutting don't seem particularly interested. I get it - sometimes it can be boring to try to engage with strangers all day and it is likely easy to fall into a routine of asking the same questions and keeping things pretty superficial. This time things were different: Aside from a tiny bit of small talk about my day and eventually why I was in Revelstoke, Sara and I got into a deep and meaningful about my hair: "what do you like about your hair", "what do you dislike about your hair", "what would you change about your hair"... etc. She was focusing in on how I perceived my hair in an effort to understand how she could fit into the process of giving me a haircut I'd be happy with - and it worked. I was able to better articulate what I wanted my hair to do and be, and she was able to make it happen. While cutting and combing, she was educating me on the ethos and principles that have informed her decisions in opening her shop, the services she offers, and the products she supplies and uses. To find a salon that considers environmental impacts along with making profits was not something I was expecting to discover... being like minded and myself working for a company that considers the environmental impacts of being in business - the experience really resonated with me. A great haircut and a great conversation make for a really great experience. It's a real shame that I can't just book here in the future now that I'm back in Toronto - but I feel lucky that now I know how to better articulate what I'd like to my next barber. Go here. Often.
