This review is for the Revelstoke Pipe Mountain Coaster Brought the fam jam here on our way home from the US on our summer vacation. We purchased our tickets first thing in the morning on a weekday and got a time a couple hours later. So we visited the Revelstoke Railway Museum in between - perfect way to kill time! Upon returning for our designated timeslot, we hopped a gondola up the mountain enjoying the view. Well, I enjoyed it... the oldest kiddo started getting a little freaked out at the height we were going up. After making it to the start point for the pipe coaster, it took some coaxing to convince my daughter that everything would be okay and no, you're not going to die. I mean, you just survived upside down coasters at Disney... How on earth is this scary? Anyhow, we finally managed to get everyone settled and on the pipe coaster and away we went! The ride down lasts a couple minutes max - depends on how much hand break you use to slow down the ride. It was fun and bumpy and not at all scary. I'm not sure I'd want to do it again - it's pretty pricey and the timeframes to buy your ticket and come back were odd (why not let you do this in town at a store or ???). But glad I have the pictures and memories of this unique mountain coaster!

What a fantastic resort. My husband and I came in our camper for a week of spring skiing. When we arrived we were a bit apprehensive, the bottom of the mountain had a lot of exposed dirt and rock and we thought we may have missed the snow. Not the case! The top of the mountain had plenty of good spring skiing and breathtaking scenery. There are plenty of long, relatively steep runs and the rest area at the top of the gondola has a big open porch where you could stare at the mountains and enjoy a drink or a snack in the sun. We stayed a few nights in the resort which is super welcoming and well equipped, complete with a hot tub, heated pool, liquor store, retail store, ski shop, bakery/deli, tavern and nice restaurant. The actual town of Revelstoke is visible from the hill and pretty adorable. My husband and I had a handful of meals in town, all very good, and saw a movie at the theatre. Overall we absolutely loved Revelstoke and can't wait to be back sometime when we can experience some of the legendary pow.

Big expectations were met. In typical Yelp! style, I really feel this is a 4.5 but I'm an easy mark and round up to 5. The things I liked and that Revy does well: Vertical Pitch & Trees Lodging Other ways to ski (I love the sound of choppers at a ski resort) Proximity to town Canadian ski areas are good at taking a big (huge) mountain and creating a lot of terrain with a minimum amount of chair lifts. Revy is a prime example as it has more vertical feet than any other North American resort and is (mostly) served by the gondola and two chairs. So, expect to traverse and climb a bit. From the base, ride a gondola for a short ride and dis-embark for another gondola (not a selling point that we can't just ride one gondy). I suspect this is a part of a master plan tocreate a much bigger base area but it may just be avalanche control or some other practical reason. In any case, the long ride up. At this point we separate those who ski the two available chairs from those who ski (the two available chairs plus) the gondola. Snow conditions may force us to stay up high or permit us to ride the entire mountain. We had near prime conditions and rode the top to bottom several times. On our third day, we had big freshies and had one of our best days of the season. The thing to know here is that from the "Stoked" chair, it is possible to fan out in either direction to find a line to ride down and then traverse back to the chair. Or, if it suits, climb the ridge and descend the North Bowl to the "other chair". Revy needs a steady snowfall because "one does not exist on groomers for long". EXCEPT if you find your way to the trees and glades. In my several decades of skiing, I've never found a resort that has the quantity and quality of tree skiing that Revy has. Although I have no evidence, I assume that the resort has brought in the local lumber industry to help refine the glades in exchange for quality timber. The Tally-Ho Glades and Jalapeño were two of my favorite runs off the Stoked chair. For such a huge mountain, it has a steady and steep pitch. There are easy ways down but, for the most part, it just keeps going down to the Columbia River (almost). For lodging, if you can swing the expense, stay at the Sutton Place. It's 5-star and located right at the base of the gondola. Sleep, dress, walk a few steps to the gondola. Easily the best ski-in / ski-out I have ever enjoyed. Revelstoke offers some of the premium heli-ski and cat-ski operations on the continent. For others, snowmobiling. As much as we enjoyed our lodging, the town of Revelstoke is thriving and fun. If you are choosing between Revy and Kicking Horse, this is the better town. The ski areas are equal...

Revelstoke offers the largest lift-serviced vertical drop in all of North America. It's true. It opened just 2 years ago and everything is brand-spanking new and to boot, no one seems to know about it quite YET! Perfect runs with hardly anyone around, it was absolutely awesome. They doubled their terrain by opening up the North Bowl and plan on going from the current 3 lifts to over 20 over the next few years. I suggest getting in your fill or riding and skiing before everyone else heads out that way. The views off the top are absolutely amazing. The song in my head the last time I was up there: Beautiful Day by U2.

We came in Summer, when the mountain was closed. Very tiny village. Lots of condos. Very difficult to get to, I think this is the main problem that needs to be solved, for this resort to be a success ;)

We stayed in an AirBnB close to the resort. We were in town the last part of June. Woke up early and went to buy some rides to the pipe. At the time of year the gondola only went to the pipe and not all the way up. They have built a building with a patio up there so my father hung out there. We had to wait about 30 minutes at the top for our turn. A bit hot with no shade until the last 15 feet where they have put up a tent. Beware no hand held Go Pros. They have a mount on the front of the cart or you can wear it on your chest. It was a lot of fun but very short with a bit of wait made the price hard to swallow. You can buy a second ride for cheaper than the first and since we are only going to be in the area once we decided to do it again. Plus my husband got stuck behind some slow kids, so they gave him a second ride for free. That was very kind of them. They called it a reride. If you get a reride you don't have to wait. However, since I bought a ticket I had to wait. This time they told us before we got on the gondola there was a wait. They told us we could ride to the top and wait but not get into the line. They told us the web site to check for our boarding time. It was a good system. We honestly waited less time the second time than the first time. We hung up at the top with my father on the patio and had a few drinks. Then it was our time and this time my husband brought the right mount for the Go Pro. We got to the front and told them we wanted a lot of space between us and the people in front of us. They were happy to let us wait. Second ride even more fun. We then rode back up on the gondola pick up my father and rode the gondola down. A fun couple of hours. Worth the effort if in the area. I would suggest getting there early. The rest of the resort is a typical ski resort. It has a bar, restaurant, shops, etc. We really only came for the pipe.

The whole place feels brand new. Lots of thoughtful details in the room like a rubber mat for muddy/wet boots, broom and dustpan, pretty well stocked kitchen including oil, salt & pepper. You could definitely cook a full meal here and we enjoyed the convenience of breakfasts at home. Decent tea and nice coffee from a local roaster. Two decent sized hot tubs that were hot (but busy so we were only able to soak one of our two nights). In-room washer & dryer, including a tide pod & decent toiletries. Not far from town or the ski resort. We couldn't see much of the view but I bet it's stunning in the summer. Cons : Although not too far from town or the ski hill you're a few minutes drive down the road and there is nothing in the immediate area. We stayed in a studio and while they packed a lot into a small space it also felt a little cramped. The bed was against the wall on one side. There was also no place to unpack or store clothes. The bathroom is tiny. The shower also had some safety issues. The hot water is hot enough to scald you and the glass shower door is oriented in such a way that you would not want to catch a finger. I wouldn't let little ones use the shower unsupervised. It's also a little on the loud side. I don't think our upstairs neighbors were doing anything to be extra noisy but we heard them constantly. Overall, I'd prefer to stay in town or on the hill but I'd consider staying here again or trying another Basecamp in the future.

It was such a comforting feeling to come to a cozy room, which prompted me to add this business on Yelp! Share the love, you know? I'm now sitting on my bed typing this review, LOL. The Resort contacted me the day before and asked me to provide my credit card for $250 security deposit, which is fully refundable. On the day of the stay, they emailed and texted me my room number and access code. When I got to the Resort, I was truly amazed by the scenic view surrounding it. I had booked the Microsuite and we walked to the room and punched in the access code and I'm in! So easy and convenient. The room is nice and clean, comes with pots, knives, fridge, dishwashing machine as well as laundry washer and dryer. I can understand why they asked for security deposit. They also provided one single use laundry pod so we did our laundry! The shower was a little bit small. I am a pretty petite person and I found it small. However, they use Rocky Mountain Soap Co products and using a well-known brand is always add bonus points. There is a hot tub for use on a reservation basis. This was great news for us because we wouldn't have gone to use it if we had to share with other people. As a result, we were able to have a nice and private soak for 30 minutes. I highly recommend this place!!

Narisa, the cheerful chef ensures that the bacon is cooked just right (crispy not burned) and there is typically at least one other breakfast meat on offer besides bacon. Eggs include omelet, scrambled, hard-boiled and there are two waffle irons with all the yummy waffle trimmings. The cereal section includes oatmeal, yogurt, bananas, various dry cereals, a delicious home-made fruit salad (get there early) and a selection of very well appointed toppings including almonds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, and coconut flakes. The coffee-cup is bottomless and the coffee quality unimpeachable. Narisa runs a tight ship in the kitchen, resulting in a food table that is well stocked right up until cutoff time, and a restaurant that's clean and tidy. Harry and Jass in guest relations are the quintessential hosts, catering to special requests related to room assignment, and both are very friendly and accommodating. I recommend a room on the valley side, which avoids the distraction of the highway sounds and provides for spectacular views. If you are a railway enthusiast, this is probably the best hotel you could possibly book. It is practically next door to the railway museum (probably the most important railway museum in Canada - Roger's pass, Rocky Mountains, last spike, etc.) and has a commanding view of the colorful double stack container trains that pass by each day. The kids just love counting the cars and keeping track of the engine numbers. If you stay more that 2 days you will see some engines twice, which in train-bingo is a double bonus score! The site of the last spike - where Canada became a nation, is well worth a day outing and is 25 minutes West from the hotel. The world famous Roger's Pass and McDonald Tunnel are about 1 Hour East and there is a National Park Visitor Experience Center at Roger's pass. On account of safety and trespassing concerns, best not to actually enter the MacDonald Tunnel, just watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zepXkTPvqA To sum-up: Price, Cleanliness, Modernity, Friendliness (Narisa, Harry, Jass), Supreme Breakfast Buffet, View, Railway History. We booked a room at the Fairfield by Marriot Inn & Suites Revelstoke. We checked in and after about four hours started getting ready for bed. I took my French bulldog downstairs to go outside before turning in. At this time, the staff representative told us we had to leave because pets are not allowed. At no time were we made aware that pets were not welcome. I asked for a refund, assistance finding another room in high season during a storm, or to speak with someone who could give us permission to stay. All requests were denied. We booked through Expedia and were told to contact them. I begged her to make an exception given the late hour, the blizzard, and that I was traveling alone with my child. She told me no without concern or apology. My daughter & I were both pretty upset when we left. I just spent hours on the phone with Marriot and Expedia trying to find another room and obtain a refund, while my daughter needed me to console her and to go to bed. We finally found a room at the Sandman Inn and are safe. Shame on you Marriott.
