I stopped by here just to print something and I was awe struck by the architecture and uniqueness. Also they had some rare non fiction stuff which is what I read mostly. When I was very young we used to gather in a circle in the library and would read to us that would be grades kindergarten through second we used to walk down as groups from my neighborhood just for the readings it was very exciting back then I wish more people read now I pray for future Generations. Glad to know the library is still open and going strong. Also notice the fabulous architecture it hasn't changed in 40 years although it's much much older than that. Many many many things have changed in Chelsea, but I'm very glad to see that the City Hall in public library have stayed the same.

Customer service is five stars from the head librarian!…read more I walked in here one day, new to Chelsea and wanted to see my new library. The librarian immediately greeted me and welcomed me. He asked where I was from, how I got here, what I was looking for, etc. He told me he has been here for 30+ years and can answer about any question. He gave me a "tour" of the library, showing me where the computers, fiction, non-fiction, magazines, and movies were all located. The building itself is a circular shape which makes it odd for storing books. However, he assured me if they don't have it where I can find it, simply ask. They can also get anything from the Boston Public library circulation too, which is very helpful. I came in a second time several weeks later and the librarian greeted me and welcomed me back. The staff make it very easy for you to find what you need. I have not spent a ton of time here but did see people utilizing the computers and reading areas. I think it's a great part of the community--free for all! Check out their facebook too for special programming if you have kids!

I was in Boston for a conference this week, and it's always a shame to not do or see anything in…read morethe city where you've been for work. I knew I wouldn't have much free time and needed to get some work done between the end of the conference and leaving for the airport. When I discovered the Athenaeum, I thought - perfect! So what is the Boston Athenaeum? It's a "unique combination of library, museum, and cultural center in a magnificent landmark building . . . One of the country's oldest and most distinguished independent libraries..." It's a great place to work, study, and socialize. The first floor of the Athenaeum (where they have several galleries, including one for temporary exhibits) is open to the public. The rest of the floors are open to members only. Annual membership is currently $506/year or $338 for people 40 and under. However, they offer a day pass ($40), which is how I took advantage of the Athenaeum for a day. There are desks, chairs, patios, tables - tons of places to work and study and read. There are incredible views. The collection of art on the main level was worth seeing, and I also enjoyed their temporary exhibit: "Allan Rohan Crite: Griot of Boston." I wish they had provided a map, because - as a first time visitor - I got very confused by the floorplan. I couldn't find stairs so used the elevator, but one elevator only went to the second of five floors, so ... I wandered, found a place on the fourth floor to work from, and explored. It's really beautiful and it was a great place to get some work done while learning a little about Boston. $40 was a little steep, but it allowed me to get a little bit of a museum visit in while also allowing me the opportunity to work in a more beautiful place for a few hours. I'd happily check it out again. If I lived in Boston, I'd definitely consider becoming a member.

The Malden Public Library has excellent programming for the community, especially for kids - LEGO…read moreclub, arts & crafts, puppet shows, etc Today I took my son to a program on exotic animals. The group Curious Creatures brought tree frogs, a tarantula, a scorpion, etc. My son got to hold an alligator. It was amazing! In addition to the great programming, the folks who work there are really nice and helpful. I love this place!

I was excited I enjoy reading so when I got my card in middle school I was ecstatic. The reference librarian was always beyond helpful. The amount of growth and change that I have witnessed at this library is astonishing. They do great work such as Malden reads which is a group that chooses a book to read for the month or so and then eventually gets together and discusses their opinions on that specific book. Let me tell you I have been to one book discussion but I am making it my business to attend another one. Hearing so many different perspectives on a book that you read really helps build your intellect and open your mind to different ways people interpret things based off of their own ideas. If you are not affiliated with Malden library in any way I highly recommend you do so when you get a chance. It welcoming and warm and the librarians are A1. #read

We entered right at opening, and the initial gasp of enjoyment my Granddaughter let out was worth the visit. We explored for hours, enjoyed lunch in the café (attached) and reasonable priced. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There were people at almost every table on three different floors. The children's section was very cute. The library appeared to have an extensive collection for both adults and children. We walked into the older section of the library and we were amazed. It was definitely more like a museum. The murals on the wall and ceiling were stunning. The outside fountain area was beautiful. There were people taking photos for special events and many people like us just in awe of our surroundings. They're so so helpful when speaking with my kids about what to read next, listening to their likes and dislikes and always finding something new for them. The after school programming is also a pleasant plus! My teen enjoys their crafts, and I'm happy it's someplace she can walk to after school for something a little different. For myself, I love their Libby app. It's stocked with so many audiobooks which I read in the car, on walks, and around the house. I always came here rather than my school's crap library when I had a paper, and still sometimes go to read lit criticism. They have EVERYTHING!!! I have always loved libraries and this one is among the best. I love walking up that beautiful pastoral green hill and I love that they are open practically all night. There was an activity with magnets set up on the front table to explore. There was a table for coloring, and a table with magnifying glasses and seashells to examine. Towards the back of the library are puzzles, stuffed animals, a mural of sea creatures, and a bunch of other toys. The books are arranged by fiction and nonfiction but they also have sections for specific interests such as "trucks" and "sparkly" where you can quickly select a few books based on your child's interest.
